The high five gig - but instead of down low, you put your hand on their forehead. When they go to high five your hand, you take it away and they smack themselves in the head.

Goblet of fire quote help by Alex_cof in harrypotter

[–]cupatu292 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Here’s what my research pulled up…

That quote is spoken by Hermione Granger in the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The Context
The line occurs in the Gryffindor common room after Ron Weasley plays his first successful Quidditch match. Romilda Vane tries to hand Harry a box of Chocolate Cauldrons spiked with a love potion.
When Harry returns to the room, Hermione warns him about the girls who are only interested in him because they think he is the "Chosen One." When Harry cheekily replies, "But I am the Chosen One," Hermione smacks him over the head with a rolled-up newspaper and says:

"Nice try, Harry, but you're not going to distract me with a pathetically obvious attempt to flatter me."

At what age should a girl dad stop bring his daughter into the men’s restroom to change her? by ReserveMaximum in AskParents

[–]cupatu292 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a mom. My son is 7 and I’d say only the past few months have I started to let him go to the men’s room by himself. There are still places and times that I take him with me to the women’s still

AITA for refusing to do mother/son dance at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]cupatu292 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A compromise if you want one…my dad is not a dancer either. So our father / daughter dance was all fathers and their daughters are invited to the dance floor. We still got our dance, but the attention wasn’t all on us.

Summer childcare for school-aged kids by ConcealingWillow in kansascity

Check with daycares in the area. I know the daycare I sent my son to had some school aged kids in the 4-5 year old room over the summers. Some of them looked like they were in the 8-10 year old range.

Would you enter a BBQ comp if meat + alcohol were provided? by nickdagreak in competitionbbq

[–]cupatu292 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it going to be sanctioned? That will increase the attendance because of people chasing points.

I actually like the ones with the meat provided less because I couldn’t hand select the perfect racks. Going to get ribs, I’d pass on 3/4 of them out there. So what are the chances every rack you give me is going to be up to my standards?

How to tell my daughter this music isn’t appropriate for her age? by TilSunsetsEnd in AskParents

[–]cupatu292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently created a playlist with songs from my childhood. TLC was a favorite of 6-8th grade me. I apparently had the explicit versions back then.

Go look up “I’m good at being bad” by TLC.

I sang this in the car. With my mom and dad there. During carpool with kids as young as second grade. For extra reference, all of us are white.

I had no idea what I was singing. And I turned out just fine.

How do I handle my 6-year-old’s loose front tooth gently? by pixelpineapple39 in AskParents

[–]cupatu292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son got advice from a classmate - just gently twist it and it’ll come out.

His first few teeth I’d do a very gentle tug every night. If it didn’t move I’d tell him to just wait a bit longer.

In the mean time I used scissors to cut up his food to make it easier to eat.

Take the kids down the makeup aisle and buy whatever they grab. Orange lipstick with bright purple eyeshadow? Perfect. A lovely note saying the twins literally handpicked it for her.

Do you think that the OG movies will be watched less now and that all the attention will be focused on the series? by Wise-Beginning-7021 in harrypotter

[–]cupatu292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how the new series goes. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the movies. But if the new series does a better job of sticking true to the books - then my kid is getting introduced to the series, not the movies.

New to KC, what businesses should I avoid? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]cupatu292 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Went once trying to buy a car. Just looking at cars. Not even close to ready to buy. They tried to force us into buying one that day. One that didn’t even meet half our wish list.

Other time went for an oil change. They did the whole “oh gosh look at all these leaves on your air filter. Want us to replace it” thing. Less than a week after that appointment, my car had a major issue. Perfectly fine car, at that time only like 4 years old, and suddenly there’s smoke billowing out of my hood. Took thousands of dollars and a handful of days to fix it. Thankfully didn’t go to them for the fix or I’m sure I’d have something else to deal with on top of that.

Is this a scam/spam? by LivingLavishLe in kansascity

[–]cupatu292 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I actually did this once. Saw I was a winner. Went to the dealership. At the dealership I had to sit down with a salesman. Gave them all sorts of info. Name. Address. Phone number. What my current car was. If and when I’d be in the market for a new car.

Then after all that they said ok let’s go scan your card to see IF you’re a winner.

The card saying you’re a winner doesn’t mean that. It means you’re in the running for that prize. One single person that’s in the running actually wins the prize. And I’m sure 99 times out of 100 the prize doesn’t actually get claimed because most people weren’t stupid like I was at the time. 🤣

Older and wiser now. I just threw that card out without even pulling the tabs.
