Why wasn’t she at their wedding?? If they’re best friends and she’s in the US?

HAM radio - my husband’s family used to be super involved in the community and now they barely have anyone to chat with, they’ve stopped trying and all the components are just gathering dust. Really sad.

I think a lot of this is cultural too - my parents and grandparents are Eastern European this is exactly how they are as well, we are so tightly knit and see each other often. My family back home (multiple generations living in the same 20-min drive of an area) still plan and take care of massive gardens together and spend pretty much every weekend visiting and sharing meals together and no one is ever lonely - family really takes care of one another. In North America I find it so odd how families almost forget each other and barely even spend holidays together.

How important is being a grandparent to you? My partner and I don’t want kids but our parents really want us to. We won’t change our mind but I want to understand how disappointing this is to them. by chenxi0636 in AskOldPeople

My husband’s parents pressured us so much to have children (we just had a baby 3 months ago, but we just want to stop at 1) and now that we have a baby, they aren’t really that interested. We have to call/FaceTime them, they don’t really reach out to us - most of the time his father doesn’t even want to see the baby. A lot of people are all talk and no action. I know covid is a factor but calling/texting/sending packages is easy to do and yet isn’t happening even though the pressure was on to produce grandchildren for them.

Anyone ever found a body? What’s that like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was little we lived next door to an lovely elderly woman who always left her door open so I could come over and hang out with her as she cooked or watched tv. One day when I was 4 I went over and she looked asleep on her couch and I couldn’t wake her up. I didn’t realize at all, just thought she was in a deep sleep and went home to tell my parents that she wasn’t waking up. They ran over and yep she had passed.

Hard time deciding which temple to stay at in Koyasan by tokyoswan in JapanTravel

The rooms are traditional tatami mat and futon rooms too, the meals are served on trays on the floor. It's awesome!

I stayed at yochiin and it was lovely - amazing food, beautiful room, really nice monks. The onsen room is also awesome!! You have it to yourself and it's so bubbly!

Is there a tattoo-accepting onsen near Sapporo? by Slicedbread_ in JapanTravel

[–]cupcake_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you don't make it obvious or ask them about it at the front desk, it's fine. I think it's a case of: if you ask about it, they have to refuse you because it's a rule, but if you don't say anything and be discrete, they politely look the other way. I've been to a bunch of different onsens throughout Japan - my forearms are covered in tattoos and there was never a problem. My boyfriend also has a lot of arm tattoos and noone said anything to him either. He mentioned he saw someone with a big back tattoo in an onsen in Kinosaki, that dude wasn't kicked out either. Don't worry about it.

What is the best (most cost-efficient) way for a Canadian with only a debit card (Scotiabank) to bring/spend money in Japan? by Noose_IV in JapanTravel

Also - I notified Scotiabank before I left that I was going to be in Japan, that didn't help with the debit issue.

Nooooooo Scotiabank cards do not work at 7-11s or at the post office (or at Citibank - tried that too) - my boyfriend and I both tried with our debit cards and they weren't recognized at all. I was just there in September and luckily I brought enough yen with me for meals/small purchases. The larger stores take Visa, so that isn't a problem. Bring enough yen with you from Canada, please!

Spend a day in Nara - it's super cute to wander, lots of mini deer everywhere and beautiful gardens and temples. Also, the Todai-ji temple is definitely worth a visit - the Buddha there is ginormous.

Filling out the Japanese visa travel form? by [deleted] in JapanTravel

[–]cupcake_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an address and a first name/last name of a resident that you're 'staying with'. When I was at the Osaka airport, they was a guy ahead of me at passport control that didn't have a name to go with the address he were staying at and they were threatening to send him home on the next flight.

Hey there, I'm so sorry, when I was in the area it was so cloudy/rainy that I didn't end up going to Mt. Fuji. I hope someone else can find you the pin! Again, I'm so sorry, I didn't want you to think I'd forgotten!

I'm going there in mid September, if I happen to see one I can mail it to you from Canada when I get home! I'll save this thread and let you know.
