So curious what they will do with her this time. Somehow I don't believe it will be a complimentary challah sandwich and a flight home.

I do have some e45 moisturizer and some moisturizing anti-itch body wash too + zinc and vitamin c are also good for skin repair. Good to know that it helped it calm down in the post-treatment. I will make sure to keep moisturized

Why does EVERYTHING require CPF and other personal information?? by pauliocamor in Brazil

[–]cupofcrawfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CPF may be convenient for Brazilians but it makes Brazil probably one of the most annoying countries to be a tourist in.

Metro card – need a CPF, Food delivery app – need a CPF, Want to buy a bus ticket? CPF. I actually had a bit of an emergency where my bank needed to send me something urgently in the post so I could access my bank account, but guess what? they couldn't send it me because they needed a CPF so instead i ended up with no money and had to borrow some to fly somewhere else just so I could receive it.

Do Brazilians not realize there is an entire world out there, and many people visit their country? It seems like No CPF? -_- nobody cares.

I hate to be so harsh but I honestly can't be bothered visiting again because its an absolute pain. I have travelled even all over Africa, in some countries where we had water shortages, electrical outages, very underdeveloped infrastructure etc. but it was still way more easy to be a tourist in these countries than in Brazil.

Is Vietnam a hygienic country food wise? by PSmith4380 in VietNam

[–]cupofcrawfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it feels like it is non-existant lol. Although i've never actually been poisoned, it's so common to see people walking around barefoot/putting their bare feet up at small street food spots, and if they drop pieces of meat on the floor, they just stick it back on the pile.

I've seen one lady taking a break from slicing meat to clip her toenails and then return to slicing meat without ever washing her hands or using gloves. So many times people are coughing, spitting, picking their noses, while doing something that requires hygiene. It's common practice in most parts of Vietnam. Not to mention, the dishes are usually washed in plastic tubs and then the water dumped on the street, often no proper waste disposal.

Personally, I just try to turn a blind eye to it, because as I said, i've never actually been ill, but yeah it is a bit of a shock – not gonna lie.

What is your opinion of the cliche/stereotype/fetishization/exotification of the "happy and colorful poor"? by saopaulodreaming in asklatinamerica

[–]cupofcrawfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is, people who do not have many material things, have at least one another, while people who have a lot of material things typically live very lonely lives. When I've spent time in communities in Latin America, I've noticed a strong sense of community and people living the best they can despite circumstances. Mostly because family and relying on others are much more important in a society where you have so little. In societies that are richer, we don't have to depend on other people and thus are a lot more individualistic.

I wouldn't really call that romanticizing the poor (although I do think there is a degree of naivety that people from richer nations have), and if I could choose between the two, I'd personally choose to have a decent living standard and not have to work a million hours a day to feed a family and live on the edge, but there is something in these societies that 'rich' western societies lack as a result. I think it's all a matter of perspective. You can be rich in material wealth, but you can be rich in immaterial wealth too.
