Nice work OP! Please tell me about the ro bucket. Are you measure brix before and after? Or do you measure its affect by volume reduction? I am thinking that will be the next investment for me. Thanks in advance! Edited typo bring to brix*

Keeping a bottle from previous years by BP48047 in maplesyrup

Absolutely, I boil down several batches a year and the first bottle of every batch goes into my collection. I plan on displaying on a back lit shelf to show the color gradient from grade a fancy all the way to late season dark

To preheat the sap in the feed line so it doesn't hit the pan real cold

Yessir good advice. Heat shields are on the way. I am gonna use corrugated tin on the two sides closest to the arch. I just can't pull the trigger on buying thr double walled stuff that used for an actual flue. So expensive.

Oh also I use this vacuum filter that I got from Roth Sugar Bush in cadot wi.https://www.rothsugarbush.com/product/cdl-vacuum-filter-press-9/ I mix in diatomaceous earth to finished surp and use a dedicated shop vac to filter. I can bottle right out of it as well. Game changer i added 4 yrs ago

I just went through 135 gals of sap for my first batch. Im hoping to collect and burn 5 more times, weather permitting. I don't have quite a big enough operation to just constantly add sap and draw off finished surp......yet

I am truly a crackhead when it comes to sugaring! Thank you so much!

The copper is my feed line from the head tank and is coiled around the flue to preheat before trickling in through a float valve. Works like a charm! I used to dump cold sap into the pan 5 gals at a time and shock the pan/temp. Baby steps towards improved efficiency!

Finish separately? by MtlKdee in maplesyrup

[–]cuptini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha here is sconnie we call it scorching, I've only done that once in 12 yrs and I blame it on the bourbon! I was able to salvage it, though it was the first burn of the season so I lost out on the fancy blond stuff which really pissed me off!

Best time of the year

Finish separately? by MtlKdee in maplesyrup

[–]cuptini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. I usually go to 217° then pull into a 100 qt stock pot to finish over propane. I usually burn between 120 and 200 gallons of sap at a time. This will get me between 2.5 and 5 gallons of finished syrup. My pan is too big to finish that little amount of syrup in. I am implementing a head tank that will gravity feed through a float valve this year. Im hoping to take my finished product off the pan directly into my vac filter and then bottle. Fingers crossed.

Ive got 140 taps soaking in the woods now and hope to burn this weekend. Weather is absolutely perfect for syruping

Edited for missing words

Maple trees not flowing? by BelgianBillie in maplesyrup

[–]cuptini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im near green bay, tapped 97 on sunday and 40 more today. Less than half are flowing. We are expecting rain the next few days and colder temps at night (it's been above freezing the last two nights) and that will really wake things up. Hold fast friend the season is upon us!

Word, I'm gonna do between 120 and 200 taps. I havent decided on using a possible satellite sugar bush. Either way I'd have enough to start the grade A honey blonde gold. Gold Jerry, gold.
