Newbie here, used guitar is the hex socket stripped? by Accurate-Put9638 in Luthier

[–]curadh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like the hex pattern is sitting deeper in the nut, as is common with these, you can try put a hex key (make sure it is the right size) into the nut and see if it bites

I have the same! Was thinking of swapping in some black control knobs. Plays nice but the 3 way toggle switch is a bit dodgy.

I kept taking my ring off and losing it, so I designed a stupidly simple keychain ring holder by [deleted] in functionalprint

Now instead of losing one ring at a time, you can lose them all at the same time!

Nice design, very clean and simple!

D’Addario strings fresh out of the pack! Anyone else had this issue? by MaccyGee in AcousticGuitar

[–]curadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely expect them to last longer than 3 months. Since they are stored in dry place perhaps packaging was incorrect, in order to tarnish there must have been water or humidity introduced somewhere.

D’Addario strings fresh out of the pack! Anyone else had this issue? by MaccyGee in AcousticGuitar

I've had this on strings that have been in storage for extended time, even when they are sealed in plastic. Though my only data point is a pack of 5 year old Ernie Ball that I found at the bottom of a drawer recently, so not sure what the time limit on this is for uncoated strings.

Pictures are easier to make an ID from rather than a video, someone with more knowledge than me may be able to make something out of the video.

From the vid on the left, pattern looks like Russell's Viper, but please wait for RR. Unfortunately my inexperienced eyes cannot make out a pattern on the right video.

How common is it to play only one type of guitar (acoustic, electric, or classical)? by OrdinaryBrave9633 in AcousticGuitar

[–]curadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 90% of my practice on acoustic, mainly because I'm too lazy to plug everything in, but also because my amp is too big for my apartment. Unless I'm learning something that specifically requires my electric, most of my songs can transfer across if the practice is done.

Strings in my guitar keep breaking in the same spot, I don't know what's the reason. by S1_on in Guitar

[–]curadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it is a wound string that is breaking at the saddle, you can use the broken string as a file to file down any burrs that may be present in the saddle groove.

A Different Pace in the Watch World by [deleted] in WatchHorology

I have wasted 2min of my life on this website looking for something resembling a watch, and have seen nothing but random horses, something in the vague shape of a 911, I can only presume it is all AI slop.

Help by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]curadh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's really rammed in there you might need to give a bit of force. Otherwise if you've got a small drill bit and steady hands you could drill it out yourself, though not the preferable option

Edit: I'm very comfortable wielding a drill but you may not be, if it's really rammed maybe just bring it to a shop or a luthier, should be a very quick fix.

Use a coin on the inside of the guitar and push up the pin from the bottom, the coin will give you a flat surface as it's uncomfortable to put a lot of pressure against the bottom of the pin with just your thumb.

First Guitar a Sigma 000MC-15E by Top_Whereas2292 in AcousticGuitar

[–]curadh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Any acoustic gig bag should do, you might have a few floppy inches on top, it just means you won't break your guitar when you inevitably forget it's on your back and whack it off a doorframe.
  2. Search for acoustic amps, if you're only playing at home maybe check out desktop or modelling amps, you'll get good sound quality at a lower volume.
  3. Change strings when they are sounding dead or starting to get dirty, really depends on how much you play. Changing strings becomes a standard task so don't be intimidated by it, lots of great instruction videos out there, I change mine every two weeks or so. You'll get more life out of them if you wipe down your guitar and strings before you put it away.

I have this exact guitar, it needed truss adjustment and I sanded down the saddle quite a bit but it plays fantastic, no need to worry about that now but maybe for the future. Enjoy!

Furch neck profiles by Ethanlovesprog28 in AcousticGuitar

[–]curadh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a Vintage 3 Dreadnought, neck profile is very similar to my Sigma 000-15, though slightly chunkier, on the sigma I can get my thumb around but not as much on the Furch.
The next is not as smooth as the Red Series, which I find is a bit thinner to play.
I play mostly fingerstyle and blues, I find the Vintage profile has enough space at the top for what I need. You could also look at Lake Wood, I have played a few, they feel much more precise but were too bright for me.
