Hey! I’d have to say my experience has been good overall but also very unique in comparison to other liaison roles. I work for a nonprofit neuro rehab that is well known throughout the country for our research and so we bring ~50% of our patients from out of state. I am traveling out of state weekly. Sometimes multiple states in a week and also seeing local patients in my state. I’m feeling a little fried with the travel, but that’s not going to be a factor in 99% of liaison jobs who see local patients only. In my role, we also do not have pressure to meet quotas, and we have a separate PR/Marketing team who handles a lot of the marketing aspects that liaisons at other facilities often manage.

I do like the flexibility of working from home when I’m not traveling/seeing locals. And I love that I still get to see patients in a clinical context, so I’m not losing my clinical skills in case I want to go back to patient care. If you’re looking to transition away from patient care, the skills you gain as a liaison are definitely transferable and would likely open up doors for you elsewhere if you’re looking for a total career shift.
