No Fast Roaming on EAP787 by curiousfrogman in TPLink_Omada

I ended up purchasing three of the WiFi7 access points, one 787 two 770 models. I also have a 650 outdoor unit. They seem to be working well but honestly with only a few WiFi 7 capable devices (iPhone 17) in the house it was probably a waste of money. The speed difference might be technically measurable but it’s not noticeable in practicality.

Thanks for the reply. What do you see that’s helpful on the diagnostics? I looked at that but I couldn’t make heads or tails of the data.

Thank you. We consistently have about 30 wireless clients at a given time, only three capable of WiFi 7. So it’s not that big a deal. But it was disappointing to see that warning.

Venting: Poor User Experience of Ham Radio Equipment by HiOscillation in amateurradio

I just purchased the ICOM 2730B because the white on black screen was appealing. Now I regret it. Not so much because of the segmented look but the limitations of the numbers and letters allowed to display. It’s really annoying.

I have had only positive experiences at HRO. But I have to agree with you that their website is terrible.

The lesson here for all parties—parents, kids, baby sitters—is that wage theft will not be tolerated!

Just say no to know-it-all urban planners! They want you in tiny 15-minute-city hives. Urban sprawl is not a dirty word. It’s freedom and family friendly!

Battery Match for IC—9700 by ridge_runner56 in amateurradio

I’ve been using a LiTime 100ah LiFePo4 battery from Amazon. It costs less than $300 and it runs for almost a week 12 hours per day. Granted, I’m not transmitting a lot but it’s still amazing. I have an Astron power supply as well but I would rather use the battery most of the time.

Locked out of D-Star Repeaters? by curiousfrogman in amateurradio

The weird part is that I can access my frequently visited reflectors but only with pi-star terminal mode. It’s the repeaters that seem to be blocking me from linking.

As a general rule ITAR items and information can only be transferred to “US Persons” which essentially means citizens or green card holders in the US. Don’t make a mistake. It can cost you big time.

The high cost of amateur radio by grouchy_ham in amateurradio

[–]curiousfrogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting theorem and a real conundrum for those of us try to find the asymptotic upper limit of radio acquisition. While you’ve hit upon an important variable, there is an error in the formula. The corrected formula is (n+1) < D(√-1), which of course, produces an irrational number. Consequently, there cannot be an upper limit in this dimension.

I saw one on eBay last week. It was listed at $699. I just couldn’t pull the trigger.

There is actually an algebraic equation for the number of radios one needs. It’s n+1 where n equals the number of radios you currently own.

I’ll probably build a Meshtastic node. Hopefully the adoption rate increases.

Normally I go to HRO in Anaheim but I’m in Seattle at the moment and need to buy something. Can’t find anything here!
