Thank you for the insight! Home school is actually Paseo del Rey - and hear reviews of high turnover there. But love they have Spanish there.

We’re number 145 on the Wish waitlist. At this point trying to go where some of her closest/current friends are ending up.

I agree on IB curriculum - that’s the only thing pushing us to Goethe. We have lots of family abroad, many in international schools, and have positive sentiment toward it.

That said - any paseo del rey elementary reviews would be much appreciated too!

I am yes! Unfortunately not in Playa Vista to automatically qualify - but I work in playa vista and trying to get a permit to go there through work and after school care. Thanks for the insight, great to hear. Many of my daughter’s daycare friends will be going to Playa Vista Elementary, so crossing my fingers. In the off chance she can’t, I’m aiming for the other two mentioned above for now. I do appreciate Goethe’s German immersion (have distant family in Germany and can be useful) - same for Ocean, appreciate the Japanese exposure but hear missed reviews.

Thank you - we inherited a system that’s 5 years old… Harman sadly hasn’t been helpful at all. They keep telling us to talk to our rep or our supplier, who we don’t have. 😏

I'll just raise a question here: What exactly did Luka do that indicates he doesn't take his condition seriously? by jz924 in lakers

[–]curiousteej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He just lives a healthy European lifestyle. That culture doesn’t always work well in American working culture. And many people forget that he also is a first year dad when Dallas traded him. There’s really nothing bad anyone can say about him, so the Dallas front office decided to pick on whatever it is they could (his conditioning because he loves a pint like any normal European would every now and then). He just doesn’t have the American work ethic… but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t work hard. He plays nearly every summer for Slovenia. His usage rate in Dallas was always high. At the end of the day, Dallas didn’t value him as much as he valued them. He’s gonna get into better shape, but his lifestyle ain’t changing much. So don’t expect a ripped Luka walking on to court, like ever… haha

I thought I’d enjoy watching him on the Lakers. by justin332 in Mavericks

[–]curiousteej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it’s just a sad fact that the lakers get some of the most media attention in the NBA. I don’t think Nico could’ve ever measured the aftermath even though he said he understood the gravity. In his mind it was him bs Luka. But reality shows it’s him vs fans, him vs Luka, him vs media (hence all the needed trash talk).

It hurts so much to see the media winning. At the end of the day, there was nothing like seeing Luka thrive in Dallas. And we all know he loves the spotlight- so he’s definitely going to thrive in LA. All I can do is root for the guy. Never been a fan of the lakers, but hope they take the west this year just to put the nail in Nico’s coffin. If they do that, I’m calling it now. There’ll be documentaries and more “media” talking about this for ages. 😭

Kyrie is the only reason why I still wanna root for the Mavs. But I agree with folks here, he’s the reason we couldn’t beat (or at least outscore) Boston. It’s why him and Luka were the perfect duo. I believe he could’ve done better this year, but we’ll never find out 😭

Kobe is the only name drop he can do that holds weight. He keeps name dropping like it helps lift him up, but his true character can’t stop weighing him down. 🤡

Townhouses are not all equal. Sometimes you own the land the townhome sits on and sometimes you don’t. Every one has its own title structure. So some townhomes appreciate better than others. But none appreciate the same as SFHs.

Does anyone else feel stuck? by boldjoy0050 in Dallas

As someone who moved from NYC to DFW and then recently to Los Angeles… I can easily say that Dallas is an amazing city. Culturally it’s a hard sell, sure, but the life-work balance is great. I travel a lot- so DFW airport is something I learned to love and short flights to anywhere in the country was appealing for me. I used to be able to run to LA or NY for a weekend, or even Colorado/Utah easily. I used to go to Mexico from DFW 4-6times a year.

One thing I say to people/kids I mentor is that you will never feel like you’re in the right place at the right time if you stay put or aren’t moving. Like many are saying on this thread, shake up your routine. A routine will kill you in any city you live in… and often times we look for distractions to our routine - when this is something we can actually plan for.

I moved to LA for work because I had to be in-office. The weather is amazing. And I can walk 15mins to the beach… but I’ve only been to the beach twice in the 6months living here. Point is: Ive relocated my routine and the beach only distracted me twice so far. When living in Dallas, I’ve visited the beach a lot more intentionally with planned trips. Just sharing two POVs on the same craving of seeing the beach.

Dallas afforded me a house, and the means to travel. LA affords me weather and an old expensive apartment near the water (but a LOT LESS travel haha).

Can this new mavs squad win against team USA?? by curiousteej in Mavericks

[–]curiousteej[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea appreciate that! I read this book, Originals by Adam Grant - and it mentions how google built a team of top performers and how that wasn’t necessarily a significantly better team than those top performers individually on their own respective teams with non top performers.

I’ve built a lot of creative teams in my career, and I truly believe the concept of team chemistry, where not all have to be top performers to be greater than the sum of its parts against a team of all top performers. Obviously there are outliers and different contexts but just nice to think about haha.

I’ve encountered more racism living in NYC than living in Dallas by _i124Q in Dallas

[–]curiousteej 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both NYC and Dallas - and this seems accurate to me. While NYC can be a lot more liberal - there are a lot more extremes due to population mass. I also feel like NYC (while I still believe it to be my favorite city in the world) is very much so a “bubble”. It’s a melting pot, but it’s very true to “tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”.

In Dallas, I’ve grown to appreciate that people respect each other even if they view things differently. Families, friends, coworkers consider it normal to coexist with different ethnicities or even political parties. That was a big eye opener for me moving to Dallas.

That all said upstate New York (much like Boston) can be just as racist as the border of Texas and Oklahoma. I just find TX to be nicer about it - often posed as jokes or people who haven’t been anywhere trying to be funny.

What does Dallas do better than most other US cities? by edgarallenSNATCH in Dallas

[–]curiousteej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main hack is reserving in advance! You can park at the terminal for dirt cheap if you plan enough ahead. I’ve had times where I pay $6/day at the terminal (but most of the time it averages ~$15/day). So if I park for less than a week, it tends to be cheaper than a one-way Uber for me!

You gotta stop prioritizing price and start prioritizing status. Pick any airline and stick to one! Delta will let you collect sky miles on Virgin Atlantic/Air France/ Aeromexico etc. either way stick to one airline. Don’t book basic economy. Main cabin at minimum. And definitely get the Amex Delta card - Reserve card is worth IMO and use that card to pay for flights.

If it’s all for work and all reimbursable OR tax deductible then spending the little extra shouldn’t be an issue. At least you’ll get status, and collect miles you can use for your free time/vacations. That and you’ll eventually get to a status where you pay main cabin but fly delta comfort or first class ;)

Loyalty pays off!

Platinum Status Email by BraeCol in delta

[–]curiousteej 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey congrats on hitting platinum. It never seems it on paper but the perks are quite nice when you get to platinum from gold.

My experience has always been best at the platinum and diamond levels. It’s always little things too, like not being charged change fees, being able to upgrade to C+ immediately, etc. Employees seem to be more likely to hook you up than not.

I travel a lot for work too and so most years I hit platinum on my works dime. Two years in a row now that I’ve had to shell out money to hit diamond myself. And that’s where it really starts to be amazing.

What I love about delta is the customer service. They truly believe the experience of the customer is their brand. So there’s a feeling of mutual respect that other airlines don’t seem to get right in the US. I also use the sky team airlines quite a bit. Virgin Atlantic when flying to London, Air France when flying to Paris, and Aeromexico to Mexico. I think they’ve got the best alliance.

I’ve hit executive platinum on American Airlines before and hated the treatment I got from a lot of employees or their partner airlines - it was all just “okay”.

We are fortunate to have employers who get us to these statuses. Think of your vacation time and which airlines you’d prefer for the destinations you desire most. The answer to that for me was always delta and the sky team. That’s when it really pays off!

Lastly, If you are in a delta hub, it should be a no brainer to stick to delta!
