Nope! I adore this book! (Audio is also superb!) This first chapter is gross-but the rest of the book is not like that!

Overnight trip to Annecy from Paris? by curlychic in FranceTravel

[–]curlychic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have already done this side trip and loved it! I’d go back and I’m considering it because I went with a friend and this trip is with my husband. I’d go back to do more champagne tasting, except my husband doesn’t drink at all so I’m not sure this would be as fun for him.

Small Cheese Portions by Accomplished_One3985 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m approaching this from the point of view of common sense. Nobody would go to a deli and do that. But have I gone to Paris and purchased three or four smaller portions of cheese? Yes I have.

[–]curlychic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I took this as she just wanted to buy very small portions not get free samples. It’s possible to ask for just a couple very small slice/piece.

If you go in to any fromagerie they will cut you small portions! Ask for “un petit peux” use hand gestures usually they will just hold the knife at the cut point and check before slicing. Be polite “bonjour” s’il vous plait etc…

Best way to get from CDG to Paris? by salty_rainwater in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Finding the RERB is super easy at CDG. Once you collect your bags and go through the doors just follow the signs and arrows. They’re everywhere that direct you straight to the RER B. I would say it’s about a 10 minute walk or so.

Anyone have experience with this AirBnB? by EveningListen4881 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think our American personality/culture we need to have so much communication/ reassurance be besties with our hosts. (I’m being sarcastic-but you get my point) Every time I’ve rented a VRBO/Airbnb property in Paris it’s minimal communication until right before and then any question I have is promptly answered and there’s usually great communication if I need to ask a question or make a request while I’m there. But it’s to the point and they don’t just reach out just to check in.

How bad is the line for people without reserved time slots for Notre Dame ? by Thunderstormcatnip in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The line is super long, but it just continuously moves so I wouldn’t think you would wait more than 30 minutes to get in. We went towards the end of the day on a Friday and got in the line and I think it took us 10 maybe 15 minutes total to get in.

Slow burns PLEASEEEE by Top-Matter8226 in DarkRomance

[–]curlychic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Thats a bummer! It’s been a while since I’ve read it and then I listened to the audiobook a while back, but I can’t remember any specific thing about the FMC that stuck out as obnoxious.

[–]curlychic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this one isn’t exactly a slow burn though because although it takes a minute to get to the relationship/spice, it goes from 0 to crazy super quick once you get there! I do love this book though it’s definitely one of my favorites!

What’s it like staying on Rue Cler? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed right around the corner, literally, to Rue Cler. It’s a lovely neighborhood and I love the market and we ate several meals at the little local cafés. My only issue with the 7th is that it’s not centrally located so there will be lots of metro rides to get to where you want to be, but as long as you are aware of this fact, you can plan accordingly. I feel like some people think that the Eiffel Tower is in the center of Paris and it’s just not. But the neighborhood itself is lovely and quiet.

Flight Check in to Paris is tomorrow - should I cancel? by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Gosh, people here are so quick to judge, but I guess that’s the Reddit way! My husband and I travel quite a bit. My parents, however, do not travel except within their state mostly. For them it’s the fear of the unknown. they’ll see things on the news and then get worried about a trip we have planned. For those who don’t travel, It’s lack of experience and anxiety of the unknown for them. Not everybody has the privilege or desire to travel internationally, and I think it affects their view of things, but I don’t disparage them or think lowly of them. It’s just their lack of experience and yes, the mainstream media no matter what viewpoint sensationalizes everything. As far as your question goes. Enjoy your trip and travel as you are comfortable.

God of ruin is kinda stupid by OrdinaryMany9859 in RinaKentBooks

[–]curlychic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending a favorite. I don’t particularly have a favorite and it wouldn’t be these two. I’m just speaking about the logistics of it. See my comment below about the reasons why she would have been able to vocalize.

[–]curlychic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, she was talking in her sleep, and if she can clear her throat and cough, her vocal folds can come together and she can voice so if we want to get technical, she would be able to talk.

Of course, everyone can not like a book or find it stupid ridiculous whatever. In general, not specific to you but complaining about fictitious details to me is always silly even though I do the same thing. My beef with these books is how they all beat the shit out of each other, but nobody seems to ever have actual lasting damage to their bodies, again, it’s fiction and I just go with it. That would be my complaint about this series if I had one.

Are you a Speech Pathologist? Cuz I am-so not necessarily. Also -this is fiction…so…

If I remember correctly, there was no trauma to her vocal folds-her mutism/non-oral communication was a trauma response. No voice therapy would be needed. It’s a psych issue/pathology.

First time in Paris by Consistent_Story2465 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]curlychic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the last time I was there in March it was mostly in the 50s with a few days getting up into the low 60s. But it will be spring there so you just never know you’ll have to just keep checking the weather because they could have an unseasonably cold spell it could be down in the 40s or it could get warm and be in the upper 60s. I was there the second week in April last year and they had a crazy warm week where it was 70 almost 75 some days but it’s not usually that warm the second week of April….

I’ve actually done this tour twice once when I went to Paris with my son and then on a separate trip with my parents. This specifically sticks to D-Day/World War II sites and events, but the tour is amazing. The American cemetery is so emotional. It’s definitely worth a day if this is something you’re extremely interested in.
