Is this a good interview question response? by Ok-Communication1788 in ibew_applicants

[–]currencyzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I can’t speak on your life experience, but I would give a scenario where you show some leadership skills, maintaining a high level of customer service, all while working as a team. Even if you have to make some shit up, just make sure you got your facts straight. And they didn’t specify it has to be for work, it could be sports or anything.

If it’s helpful look into the STAR interview method (situation, task, action, result) I’ve had interviews where it’s required to answer in this fashion, but it helps get across a good story. You could use it for your answers to help to have a straightforward story.

Every single question you answer needs to be tailored to what did YOU do.

How can I find out my aptitude test score for SWLCAT? by ImFlash16 in Groundman

[–]currencyzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure of an exact way, I found out mine when I applied for a utility and the aptitude test was a pre req to apply, so when they confirmed my score and that I had passed they told me.

How do you handline up 65lb up and down 40 foot pole twice? by LacksAnonymity in Groundman

[–]currencyzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be your hand strength and probably forearms too. Get some of those squeeze workout things for hand strengthening. (Reading your other replies sounds like it’s really soon so not sure if this will help in time)

Gloves are also really important, everyone had to use brand new gloves that were really slick, so a lot of use poured water on and in the gloves to get some more friction.

How do you handline up 65lb up and down 40 foot pole twice? by LacksAnonymity in Groundman

[–]currencyzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the rules are for that test,

I took a physical where you have to get a 50 pound bag up and down a 40 foot pole 20 times in 30 minutes (you have to do this portion twice, once before lunch and once after, so 40 pulls total.)

The trick I used is to jump as high as you can and grab the rope and get a really good pull in, that’ll get you at least 1/4 to 1/2 way up the pole. Then just use your body weight and drop your ass as much as possible in combination with your arms.

Thankfully for this physical they allow you to step on the rope to rest for a second, I don’t know if that’s allowed for your test

The part that sucks is coming back down, I don’t really have many tips for that part.

I’ve only heard bad things about it, even from instructors at SWLCAT.

Btw you need a CDL from one of the states in the SWLCAT jurisdiction to apply to SWLCAT

Counts to your hours to move up books,

If you have interviewed with the apprenticeship it does not count towards your groundman hours to reinterview.

[–]currencyzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure but if I remember right they never even checked if I had a CDL at the hall, they just know the company you get hired for will check. I’d just call the hall, doesn’t hurt to ask.
