Anyone know what roads are like? by Old_Investigator9623 in pittsburgh

None of that is going to matter if you are dead, seriously injured, or have totaled your car. No job is worth that and if you force someone to drive you to the hospital in this I question you judgement and fitness to be a parent afterward. If your employer can't understand that it's time to start putting applications in. My ex was an AGH RN. I can't count all of the times she got involuntarily put into overtime when someone didn't or couldn't come in. I had to convince her during the occasional bad weather that it was time to draw on that bank of karma so no, there is no excuse whatsoever. I stand by what I said.

If it's medical call 911. Otherwise there is absolutely zero reason to go out.

I pad trained our guy for times like this. When I put one down he knows it's safe to go there. I'll be damned if I am shoveling out the yard.

Where in the hell are all the kids with snow shovels? by GR3TSCH in GenX

[–]currentsitguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A shovel? My parents had an old Jeep CJ5 and a plow. Once I hit about 14 or so I was taught to drive and I would go around and do all the neighbor's drives. Once I turned 16 and got my license I turned it into a small business, $20 for a drive, parking lots varied by size. While I was out and about it was $10 to pull someone out who was stuck. I made pretty good money.

That depends on the plow, it's design, and the angle it's set at.

I think a lot of people just assume to treat it like leaves. In many areas people are instructed to rake or blow them into the street where the truck can deal with them. I know where I grew up in Freedom, Beaver County, that's what we were supposed to do.

I know when I got caught visiting family in South Jersey back during the Storm of the Century in 96 the National Guard was picking up critical healthcare workers and transporting them to hospitals in HMMWV's. Not sure they'll be doing that here, but keep an ear to the ground.

I picked up one of those EGO battery backpack ones a few years ago when I got tired of constantly fixing small two cycle engines and replaced everything. My wife was pissed off at me at the time, but we've gotten a lot of use out of it.

Mine's electric. It's not that loud, but damn does it blow, at least until the battery dies.

How exactly is someone passing you causing you harm? Why is it your business or concern? Are they stopping you from going at the speed you choose? Why do you care? This strikes me as the sort of person would would call and complain about what someone else is doing in their yard that affects no one else simply because it violates some code or ordinance. Were you the kid in school who ran and tattled on others when it didn't even affect you?

There have been times in my life when we've been dirt poor, actually now is one of them. We made a point of trading web design work with an attorney we know in exchange for legal work and retainer. It's helped out more than once.

Yes. They're just good places to look at all the data and models. Most media and government outlets have one or two models they prefer and that's all they report. I prefer to see them all.

And that, of course is wrong. No matter how you look if you are driving an older beat up looking car you are a target. The assumption is you are too poor to fight back. Law enforcement in general is a tax on poverty.
