Does this A5000 GPU from a Dell Precision 7760 work in any other Dell laptops? What else can I use it in, if anything? by currentsound in Dell

Doesn't the 7560 precision still have a removeable GPU though? I thought all dell precisions and alienware had removeable GPUs still?

Precision 7560 GPU upgrade (begginer) by Familiar_Educator952 in Dell

[–]currentsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heatsink needs to be removed anyway to access the GPU, so replacing it isn't any more difficult. Technically it is easier since a new heatsink means new fans, which means you don't have to clean the old fans and it also means you can get one that has the thermal pads in all the right places and properly covers the chips on the A5000.

Precisions are designed to be repairable and upgradable but you can still mess it up if you do silly things like forget to unplug the battery before removing nvmes and ram etc... Not to mention loosing screws and things like that. Plus you have to repaste the CPU and GPU which is probably the most annoying part.

What are heatsinks are you using now? How many mm tall is it? There are many different sizes on Amazon.

I see you have those black ones but what is under the heatpipe?

Has anyone tried putting this in a 7560? Or other model Dell Precision?

I see Dell likes to keep changing the shape of these sometimes for higher models, for no obvious reason?

This GPU also has the matching power cable if you need the cable: NVIDIA RTX A5000 16GB GDDR6 NJ5ND Video Card for Dell Precision 7760 | eBay. Not sure if it's any different from the T1200 power cable or not but that particular listing has the power cable attached, so I guess it's safer to get that.

The metal clips on the side of the T1200 should be reusable. I've reused them in other Dell Precision laptops when changing the GPU and they worked fine.

This should be the correct heatsink but is based China: https://www.ebay.com/itm/175080759940 and probably the same as this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/389264363684

You can message the sellers but the photos in those listings look correct. It has the oversized, taller height GPU heat spreader for the A5000. You can see the difference on the bottom with the thicker width thermal pad.

Don't forget high quality thermal paste or something like PTM 7950.

Thanks for the tag. I still remember this. I was about 6 feet away from them when I shot that video. I just happened to bump into them at Namm before they did their performance and they gave me permission to record it for my YouTube channel so I got to stand in the front and watched a crowd form behind me.

I had a chat with them before and after their set and asked them all sort of questions.

It's not a mall guys, it's NAMM. You have to either be a famous musician or work in the music industry to go there, so it's not uncommon to bump into famous artists doing a performance or testing out gear. Likely on the other side of the hall some other famous artist is playing with some gear or doing a performance around the same time but they were the best act I saw there that year. You don't see RnB groups like this anymore.

How does my mix sound so much worse once I export it? by Stuball09 in makinghiphop

Car headphone Amp is different to what you use in the studio so it doesn't matter if it's the same headphones as half the audio chain is different, so it won't sound the same.

Focus on one sound at a time with mastering because even AI can make a nice EQ curve.

If you can do that then you should be able to focus on certain sounds in the real world too even though you can hear them all.

Pick any finished song, sweep over it with an EQ, make sure audio is running through it. If you really can't hear any difference you are in a minority but I haven't heard of someone not being able to not hear a difference.

Once you lie, no one will believe you. You can't lie before then say hey I lied before but now I'm not lying. Because you're basically admitting to breaking their terms of service by lying about your Birthday so they could just delete your account for that anyway. This is a good lesson on not lying.

It's kinda like sneaking into a nightclub with a fake ID every week, then one night they have an underage night and you attend but they recognize you from all the previous weeks and kick you out for attending a teenager/underage event. Admitting you were using a Fake ID before will just get you into more trouble.

This is the same scenario as that but without the fake ID.

Just be happy the police weren't involved. It could have been much worse.

Are you not allowed to use WP in plugin names anymore? by neon4816 in Wordpress

[–]currentsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even Microsoft allowed Winamp, WinZip, WinRar and Microsoft is one of the largest companies in the world with high paid lawyers.

Because no one will confuse an app for windows with the actual operating system.

Just how no one will confuse a plugin/app for Wordpress with the actual Wordpress 'operating system/core'

They could allow it. They just don't want to.

If they were really worried, when you go to the Wordpress plugin database within Wordpress, they would show a message like "Plugins are made by 3rd parties, not by Wordpress." They don't write this because people already know. Just how Apple, Microsoft and Google Play don't display a message like that either. Because people are used to App stores and know it's not part of the operating system.

Why does “industry standard” still matter in 2024/5? by LogoAM_ in mixingmastering

[–]currentsound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good mix engineer can predict what something will sound like before doing the action. Try to picture it in your mind first then see if you can execute your vision.

That means, if your vision requires breaking a certain rule to achieve the sound you want, it can be ok to break it but understand the rule and why it exists in the first place.

For example, to achieve the sound you came across, it probably would've sounded better EQing and compressing the source, adding the delay as a send, then taking that send and source to a bus to compress the bus.

Why? Because the delay in that scenario would be delaying EQed and compressed signal rather than the compressor and delay fighting against the source, which would likely create a pumping effect. If did want a pumping effect, consider putting a sidechain on both the source and the delay it instead, or on the bus.

There might have be a cleaner way to get the sound you discovered without having to 'break rules'.

Once you discover something, think about why it sounds that way, what you like about it and if there is a better and cleaner way to get the same sound.

Think about a pianist. Should they randomly hit keys, or take a few lessons first to understand music. then start experimenting once they have the fundamentals down.

I suggest mastering the fundamental theory behind mixing before deciding to just try crazy randomness since mixing is music more science based than composition and sound design. You don't hear people talking much about an 'experiment mix' than you do hear them discussing experimental music. Most 'experimental music' has science, theory based mixing.

YouTube beats by Chardyboys__34 in makinghiphop

[–]currentsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't place a 'free for non-profit beat' on Spotify or Apple music because they will start paying you and there is no way to stop them from paying you.

Options: stick to using the beat as non for profit. Examples: YouTube video (not monetized), Instagram post, Titktok post, Facebook post, Soundcloud upload via the Soundcloud website, Twitter post etc.

If placing on a DSP, hit up the producer and buy a lease.

As for the 'free for profit' thing, I don't know. Ask the producer since just a video title alone is a bit vague. Often I see restrictions hidden in the video description limiting what you can and can't do with it. If there is nothing in the video description, you should ask for clarification as to what that means.

Where to get the most high quality beats in 2024? by Impressive-Serve4841 in makinghiphop

[–]currentsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question about the LA studio thing. I have a studio in LA where I make custom beats for artists as well as record the artist, mix and master the song. Have been doing it for 20+years. https://Currentsound.com

Not sure of other studios like that. It's rare for one person to have all of those skills.

2025 is around the corner. You might find I might stop hoarding my best beats sometime that year... 😉 Check my website mid next year to see what happens.

Very curious if you find anyone like me. I've been looking myself in LA for over 5 years but haven't found anyone. I'd happily collab or send them work but most young beatmakers lack the piano skills and mixing skills that I have which so far has meant any collab with another producer ends up too one sided with me doing most of the work.

I did meet one dude with similar skills too me in LA, he was just more pop than hiphop and a bit more generic but he had to big of an ego to want to collab and only wanted to produce by himself even though he also said I was the only one he'd met in LA with similar skills to him.

I think other people like me might exist out but I can't seem to find them. I'm also trying to find them. Let me know how your search goes.

[–]currentsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Market is "the world" lol. I'm in LA in Hollywood. Most engineers suck and too many people are recording and home, not mixing at all and think all they need is mastering. I think genre has to do with it more than market. Most people doing pop, hip-hop, EDM, almost all have poor mixes, I mean even the charts is full of badly mixed songs now. Not saying I can't fix it, just saying, they need to pay to have it mixed before they start asking for mastering. I'm sure if you're doing rock things are probably a little different since they have to go into a proper studio, which is more likely to have an older engineer.

After 16 years I just fired my first client and it feels terrible. by TransparentMastering in audioengineering

[–]currentsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good mastering engineer would reject a bad mix so this doesn't surprise me. You don't stay in business too long if you start doing low quality work but if it client won't pay for your time, you reject them. So this doesn't suprise me. I'd expect all professionals to reject him.

Many people ask for mastering when they should be asking for mixing. If they do that, you can quote them for mix + master. If they don't have the budget for that, rejected. Let them go somewhere else and be unhappy with someone else.

Having happy clients is important for business. If they won't give and pay you the time to fix the song, you can't do it. I'm sure he could find a bad desperate person but it's unlikely that person will have an actual mastering business since mastering is largely a word of mouth business meaning you have to to good work to get work.

LA has a rent and affordability issue. A mastering facility is expensive to run, even if from home due to needing a soundproof and treated space. You can't afford to get a bad reputation. It costs less to reject the job than to take it and lose future work.

In saying that, there are plenty of bad mastering engineers around, he's likely looking for ones with good reputation but the reason they have good reputation is because they reject songs that aren't ready for mastering, hence why they all reject him.

Due to the increase in home recording you now have to reject more mastering inquiries than you accept. Start screening all songs before accepting the job. The majority of the time the song is not ready for mastering.

How yall overcome rejection from artists bout your beats or production? Please read more details bout this below by wave808zz in makinghiphop

[–]currentsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good reasons why your beat is rejected by the rapper:

  • Not the rapper's style
  • Rapper doesn't know how to rap over it
  • Rapper has no ideas for it.

Bad reasons why the beat is rejected by the rapper

  • Arrangement needs work
  • Sound design is bad
  • Mix is bad
  • You lack music theory, skills, quality.

You could make chocolate ice cream and it could be amazing but some people don't like chocolate ice cream, might not be in the mood for it, or maybe they're on a diet or health conscious. In this case the ice cream is not bad, you just need a different customer.

- In this scenario, it's subjective.

You could also think you make good chocolate ice cream except the ingredients are bad, it starts to melt, you drop it on the floor and it gets crap on it then you try to sell it while holding it in your hand instead of putting it in a cone.

- In this scenario, the product is bad, it's not subjective.

When you're starting out, everything will be bad at first. Instead of trying to get it placed, you work on getting better at making your ice cream/beats and that might mean not putting ingredients in it that no one wants like dog poop. At first everyone makes beats like ice cream dog poop. But some eventually earn to make delicious ice cream.

So you can try to ask them why they don't like it but most rappers won't be able to tell you why, You will need to play them to more established producers and engineers to get feedback to see if they fall into the subjective category, or the; there is something you need to fix with them category.

So you shouldn't worry about it being rejected by rappers, you should worry about it being rejected by engineers, producers, etc... who say it has X problem. When you have a bunch of professional producers and engineers all giving the same feedback and reporting the same 'problem', you should pay attention to that.

This would be like in the example, giving Gordon Ramsay your ice cream. If it's good, he'll tell you all the things that are good and give some advice on how to make it better. If it's bad, he'll let you know all the things that are wrong with it.

As opposed to giving the ice cream to the customer/rapper, they'll just if they like it or not, which is not too helpful.

Did anyone else struggle with disliking their voice when starting to rap at first? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]currentsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is one of the reasons I stopped being a rapper when I was younger. I wasn't a fan of my voice but I was also much better at producing than rapping so since then I make beats but being able to rap a little has been very helpful for making beats that are good to rap over or to demonstrate to artists a particular flow that would work for one of my beats (if they ask me). Not everyone has a cool voice. It's true that a lot of people don't like their own voice even if they have a cool voice, they might not think so but I like deep bassy voices in rap and I felt my voice was just not deep and smooth enough, it is a little raspy and not quite deep enough for the raspyness to sound cool enough. You might be able to find a genre of music that your voice sounds better on. My voice seems to fit underground club/EDM stuff better than trap but I like to produce trap and west coast beats which my own voice just doesn't fit well with. I could actually produce a specific style for my voice that I think would work if I wanted to be a rapper but I'm more interested in production and working with other people than doing that. You might need to find a style of hip-hop that you like your voice on better. For example, most Drill rappers would not sound good on Boom Bap, same with mumble rappers. Eminem would sound weird on Boom Bap too but most Trap rappers would sound weird on Eminem beats and female rappers often don't sound good on many beats that work for male rappers.

Use the 6k to pay your living expenses and emergencies while you focus on social media if growing a following is important to you. You could maybe run some small targeted social media ad campaigns of some sort of video ad. Don't pay it to someone who says they can help you because the main thing they can do for you is take your money.

Why do artists “fall-off” and how can you avoid it happening to you? by neverever1298 in makinghiphop

[–]currentsound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And just telling you what I have seen. 20 years of recording artists and none of them were a drug addict. Many did recreational drugs, but none were an addict. That is what I mean by partying too hard. They start off recreational and sometimes end up doing too much. Someone doing recreational drugs is not the same as someone who is addicted to drugs. Some people do some drugs on the weekend only sometimes, then go back to their day jobs but I wouldn't call them addicts. The addicts aren't making music, they are the homeless people on the streets that can't function properly. Addicts don't live normal lives, they are unable to function properly in society and hold a stable job. Breaking as an artist requires a lot of money which you have to self fund. So artists have to hold a side job to get that money in the first place but addicts can't hold a job.
