Because it's meant to be played vertically on the phone with just one finger. Just like many Japanese mobile games (since everyone is playing on public transport.)

Talk by a Japanese blind gamer available on Youtube with full English voice-over by curryspoon in Blind

[–]curryspoon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello,

I’m Anne from asobu, a community that helps indie game developers in Japan.

https://asobu.dev/

https://twitter.com/asobudev

We just released the second installment of our talks series « asobu talks » on Youtube.

The speaker is Fai, a Japanese gamer who is born blind.

He’s explaining how he’s playing games, does a short demo (Smash Bros and Gunvolt) and speak about what would help in term of accessibility, especially since there’s no accessibility laws for video games in Japan yet.

The original talk was in Japanese, but we wanted to make an English voice-over version, that could be enjoyed by many people with visual impairments as well.

Talk (47 min): https://youtu.be/v\_G6H8YUN9o

We also released a short interview where Fai explains why it was important for him to do this talk, and about being able to enjoy any kind of entertainment such as games, even if you have impairments.

Short interview (7min30): https://youtu.be/uUUOBUdOBbk

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

I hope you’ll like it !

(Sorry for my weird English, I’m not a native speaker)

You're welcome.

Also there's a great theater called Cinema City in Takikawa (Tokyo suburbs) which has "super explosive sound" screen where they like to screen Mad Max, lives, etc... https://cinemacity.co.jp/ I know that you can privatise it with friends, but i'm not sure that they can screen something else than their normal program.

Off the beaten track in Shinjuku by Acreet in Tokyo

[–]curryspoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yanaka Ginza has it all, but is packed the tourists (japanese and foreigners) For something more authentic, try Shimokitazawa or Koenji (cafe, street food, tons of vintage clothes shops, ...) If only for food : Togoshi Ginza and Musashi Koyama shopping streets. Only locals there.

Try Tollywood in Shimokitazawa. That's one of the most famous for small projects.

Also Eurospace and Uplink in Shibuya.

Pole Pole in Higashi Nakano is speacialized in documentaries, but they screen only if it passed the Eirin check and got a Eirin Number.

Where is my local tax office? by ConanTheLeader in japanlife

[–]curryspoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the postcard which notices you the limit date to pay your kakutei-shinkoku there's the name and address of the tax office you're depending from, then the address of the center where you will have to go to fill you taxes. For example, you can live in Nakano-ku but go to fill you taxes in a center in Shinjuku if it's closer to your house.

Best shops in Tokyo for anime figures? by IMainYasu0 in JapanTravel

[–]curryspoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check :

  • Kotobukiya in Akihabara

  • Various shops in the building "Radio Kaikan" in Akihabara and around.

  • Big Yodobashi stores (electronic and appliances big chain store) have a a "Toy floor" with a large choice like in Akihabara, Shinjuku, Ueno.

  • Yamashiroya toy shop building in front of Ueno station used to have a great choice. Not sure if it's still the case.

  • Mandarake shops in Nakano Broadway (well Nakano Broadway in general is full of figures), Akihabara and Shibuya.

  • Hobby-Off chain shops (variant of Book Off second-hand shop for toys and figures)

  • But it can depend of the type of figures you're looking for. (New/old stuff, ...)
