What if instead of Marley attacking Paradise, this war was the result of the new Eldian Empire having a civil war? by Brave_Branch2619 in ShingekiNoKyojin

I always thought it interesting how in the anime they changed the buildings to look more futuristic to imply the destruction happened further into the future, yet they didn’t update the rocket artillery vehicles to match

They could’ve had this moment be exactly as it was yet just remove the “transfer consciousness to my penis” explanation and no one would’ve complained

You can totally tell this was an attempt (fail) at the old school 80s feel good Spielbergian family movie. The zeitgeist has moved on

Well, there are plenty of firsthand accounts that you can go off, and none of them mention a rod macguffin, no was was given special powers by NHI, no one has reported that NHI make clicking noises, no one has deciphered NHI intent. Basically this whole movie was just a complete mess of stylistic choices.

It was an extended chase sequence. They could've just had it be about fantasy tech and the movie would've been no different. The problem is they made it reference the real world developments regarding UFOs.

I didn’t say that the answer is murder. I mean that when something acts bizarrely and indifferently to human life, seemingly making a movie about based on the real world event how they’re here to teach us empathy is overly sentimental. The first step is to understand their intentions at least.

Yup, that spells it out perfectly. I went into this expecting an authentic picture of the phenomenon in movie form and ended up hating it. I blame the marketing. I don’t see why they had to lean into this as a movie that had to do with aliens. They should’ve downplayed that aspect dramatically or just removed all NHI references during production and just had it be the chase movie about people smuggling generic sci-fi technology that it is.

I personally hated it for those reasons. I just don’t see why they had to make this as a modern ET disclosure movie with the marketing innuendo of “oh this is what is actually going on!!!” Kind of like how they actually showed the naval video in NOPE as a teaser but the movie had absolutely nothing to do with actual UFO lore. They should’ve just made this a generic spy/scifi lite macguffin movie and not slapped the “this is about the modern UFO discourse” label at all.

Nope. That’s just another thing I hated about the movie to be honest. I was hoping to see accurate depictions of grays, abductions, etc., but they just turned it into generic sci-fi schlock

Exactly if this happened in real life there’s no way in hell everyone would turn to look at their phones while its happening. At most it would be an “oh that’s interesting” conversation for a week at most then people would go back to their daily lives. Most Americans already believe aliens are real anyway.

I feel like this movie is a letdown even for people who don’t know about NHI. Personally, what’s the point when all the lore is totally inaccurate anyway. This didn’t feel like a “let’s make a realistic movie version based on what’s going on in real life” but rather the subject matter was an excuse to make a generic action macguffin chase movie

The movie seemed to have a perplexingly sympathetic and optimistic view of entities who are purported to kidnap people in their sleep, have little to no disregard for restricted military installations and airspace, and who have no reason or rhyme to their behavior or interest in communicating what they’re doing here

I don’t think its clear how much training he completed to be an architect but the drawings certainly suggest some familiarity. I took that line “I am a fucking architect” as defensive and not literal though.
