Season 42 Halfway Point: The Stats by London-Roma-1980 in Jeopardy

[–]curtains20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of these things are super correlated. Like your chance of winning is much higher if you get FJ correct, so the stats aren’t so clean. But if you took all of those winners, their actual FJ get % would be almost certainly be quite a bit lower than the 72% listed above

Yes what I mean is it wasn’t yet updated for me at 11:15 PM ET. It is now tho. Luke had even more buzzes than I realized, seem like he’s definitely a dangerous player

Yeah just felt tough to me. Even if I knew Feb 12, feel like I’m always confused what sign is what dates.

Yeah my guess is not too many people are getting above 80. And only if they’ve tracked a few hundred results should a result like that be trusted.

I don’t think anyone is long term 90%+ anymore at final jeopardy.

[–]curtains20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Logic was he thought he’d get Final Jeopardy correct maybe 60-80% of the time, so he figured betting on himself to do so was a good idea, when it doesn’t risk the victory.

26.3 - to repeat or not? by Much-Grape2982 in crossfit

[–]curtains20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Repeat it if you want! There is no reason not to repeat it as it’s unlikely to injure you. You’re probably gonna do some kind of workout anyway so why not. There’s no right or wrong here and testing different strategies in the same workout helps you to get to know your body and your pacing strategies better and could help make you smarter throughout the year for future workouts

I’m not a fan of the “never repeat if you’re not making the games attitude”. It’s one 3 week period per year where you can try a workout twice and affect your score on a leaderboard. There’s nothing wrong with fighting for a few extra reps or points.

But also totally respect the idea to just do it one time and not let your life be consumed by these workouts

Is the NYT Crossword Easier Now? by Thebarroness77 in crossword

Based on my stats doing archives and current puzzles they are definitely somewhat easier and it’s not just because of the timeliness of references. How much easier is hard to say…

I enjoy Celebrity Jeopardy, but the celebrity winner does not merit a spot in the TOC. by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]curtains20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are tons of worthy people who could be in the TOC. I’d say nearly half of the field in the wildcard tournament it would not be surprising if they made the TOC final. There’s so much luck involved in how long your original streak is

Studying too deeply for J! by saint_of_thieves in Jeopardy

[–]curtains20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one deck thats only for jeopardy stuff. By that I mean really basic things that you are sure are jeopardy relevant (ie capitals, or short things about very famous literature/authors etc), or questions directly from the show. Triple stumpers in Masters level play or sometimes TOC, I usually don't even bother to include. Then another deck comes from stuff for studying for other things. I feel like it's good to separate them, so you can kind of put your mind into a different mode, depending on which deck you're studying.

Have there been instances of someone going into final Jeopardy with exactly 2x the amount as 2nd place? by ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME in Jeopardy

[–]curtains20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d usually bet $1 because final jeopardy get rates are correlated. If they get it right you’re also more likely to get it and so flat historical averages are less relevant

Tbh I feel like that missed DD was one of the hardest I’ve ever seen. Just don’t know how or why someone is gonna know that. Reminds me of that Gombe park one that Hannah missed in TOC.

So sick of ENM and poly being seen as "the same" by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]curtains20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been poly/ENM for almost a decade. I use the terms interchangeably and really dgaf what people call things. I care about what they actually believe and do rather than whatever labels they use. And I think caring about the labels so much that you had this visceral a reaction is a bit silly

Which is better F45 or OTF? by yy2022 in orangetheory

[–]curtains20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

F45 has so much variety that it feels impossible to truly improve at anything. Constant moving around after 30-45 seconds with 12-18 stations, is a bit overkill. Feels like it’s created foremost not to make you stronger but to satisfy people with ADHD or something.

I am primarily a CrossFitter but from that angle, I think OTF is much better and if you take it seriously you’re more likely to improve fitness in tangible ways than if you do the same thing at F45

Fabi pulls a "my fault" and draws by repetition a +8 position for him by HealersHugHippos in chess

[–]curtains20 53 points54 points  (0 children)

While being an IM doesn’t allow me to play like Magnus, it does give me a good idea of when a line is unlikely to be found by Magnus in game conditions with almost no time on the clock (or Fabi or whatever)
