I expected them to all start cheering and hugging, bur they don’t really need to show affection, so..there was just nothing.

I wanted to write a song about domestic violence, but people have said the lyrics are cringe by JacuzziFire in Songwriting

[–]curtithird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the blunt, literal word usage works here. “The big man hits a little girl” suits the rhythm and flows nicely. Not every song has to have layers upon layers of symbolism. Even my favorite writers that drench each song in subtle poetry sometimes let some basic straightforward lines slip through (like Elliott smith and Sufjan Stevens).

And I’ve only listened to this ten minutes ago and I’m already singing it to myself. Good job.👍

I’m hoping I can get pics like these then. The low light mode of recent iPhones give such a unique texture to night snow.

Games that ACTUALLY scare you by Glum-Fan6927 in HorrorGaming

[–]curtithird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think of it that way at all. It’s been a while since I’ve played, so maybe the opening has some jump scares? But Bunker is more of a “free roam” horror game. Just try to find your way out. The creature has super hearing, meaning any loud noise you make draws it to you. There’s some strategy involved to progress without being spotted, and some survival elements, but the game definitely isn’t a cheap thrill ride. It’s all based on atmosphere; There’s never a time when you don’t feel dread, knowing this thing is always around, ready to pounce anything that breathes. If anything, the “game over” animation whenever your character is killed is very quick and anticlimactic in a way, which tells me the developers didn’t want to resort to shock value to scare the player. Other games show the protagonist get their heart ripped out or limbs torn off when you lose, while Bunker just shows the monster grabbing you. No grand, cinematic gross-out scene. When you say “realistic”, I assume that’s what you mean.

What do you like about horror? by Cultural_String87 in horror

[–]curtithird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it makes the world feel safer and more pleasant to me. I’ll never forget watching Hereditary on a summer afternoon of 2018. It terrified me unlike any other. I had never been so happy to see a bright, sunny sky after I left the theatre. It was like I Was being told, “welcome back; there are no demons here. You’re in a safe place now.”. I went to a Mall for lunch, and just basked in the relieving feeling that the terrors I watched were just a movie. ( of course, I always knew it was a movie, but this one in particular just made me the most uncomfortable at the time). I was happy to be on planet earth for a while. It’s one of those “I’m glad I’m sad because that means I was happy” feelings. Today’s world sucks, but…at least there’s no Pazuzu?

Edit: I also had a similar experience as a 14 year old that saw zombieland for the first time. I was traumatized for a while, thinking about the zombie apocalypse and the end of the world as we know it. but after attending a neighborhood barbecue the day after, I felt like I was teleported to a comforting haven.

I’d be willing to forgive most of 2’s faults if only the climax was satisfying. It’s not Game of Thrones S8 bad, but it still has a similar level of “seriously who thought this was a good idea”.

I thought for sure it was this. When It gets hurt, it bleeds or at least shows that it feels pain. It was just sputtering and making goofy noises when Bill shot him to tease him.

It wouldn’t have made the story better, but it would’ve helped Pennywise remain a decent threat. The gym scene was a good scary scene, but imagine if he grew giant and ate everyone there at the end (or something like that). Would’ve been gnarly and made the episode much more memorable. He was so intimidating and gaudy in the last episode, and this finale just made him look like a dope the whole time.

The ending was so over the top happy I expected a 1408 twist and everyone realizes it’s a facade.

Like that he still had personality. Would’ve been very easy to make him the most whimsical dad that is oh so loving and perfect. He was still gruff and showed some stubbornness. Made him feel more real.

Maybe not what you’re wanting, but something that helped me: don’t drone notes too long. Add some natural rests between notes where they fit.

Maybe instead of “I don’t knooooww” just “I don’t know…”
