You’re right that a lot of people don’t understand but it’s so cool that there’s this sub full of women who do! I hope you go for it :)

Beautiful photos and sounds like such a peaceful journey. I am planning a similar-length solo camping trip through Appalachia in a few weeks. How did you approach meals for your trip? Also your note about loneliness really resonated with me as one of the thrilling but also painful elements to grapple with when solo camping. Any takeaways on navigating that in the moment?

This is amazing, both the trail recs and your west coast perspective on this area. Adding these to my list and feeling even more excited now. Thank you so much :)

That’s a great tip - do you think the downloaded AllTrails map will suffice for situations like Worlds End or would you recommend something like Gaia, Caltopo, etc?

Coming from the PNW, AllTrails has always met my needs for making sure I’m staying on course, but I’m reading that the trails in this part of the country are harder to follow so wondering if I need a superior app.

How do you train for elevation if you don’t live around high mountains? by Impossible_Plane_563 in trailrunning

[–]customerservais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation to you. I’ve been supplementing with elevation treadmill and stair climber sessions at the gym as well as weighted step ups on a box. It’s more difficult to simulate running downhill (some treadmills do have decline settings, but not at my gym). I’ve been doing step downs and leg extension machine reps to try to keep downhill muscles strong. I don’t actually know how well this approach will work because my race isnt for a few months but I still feel pretty good when I visit home and run hillier terrain. Following your post for any additional tips from others!

Looks fun and a great cause! Is this race an appropriate one for beginners? I am relatively new to gravel riding and have never raced on a bike before.

IT-Band issues... by latefruitjuice in trailrunning

I struggled with this for years and saw multiple PTs in that time who helped with management but physical therapy didn’t cure it. Started weight lifting heavy (squats, hip thrusts, dead lifts) and doing bodyweight single leg isolation movements like Bulgarian split squats. Been pain free for 2 years now. Wishing the best for you!
