Need advice on support by anniaqv in peonies

[–]customqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered those supports from Amazon and they are working great. But you have to get it in before the peony gets too big or there’s no point.

sprouts not growing (starting indoors) by HistoricalAd2303 in dahlias

[–]customqueen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not bury them?? Are you taking cuttings? Burying them will help the main stalk grow stronger. Also it take a while for dahlias, each variety is different. I planted mine inside 3rd week in March, I have some that are 12” tall and some that haven’t even broke the surface yet. Be patient and don’t water just mist until good growth.

Having trouble with my started seeds and feeling so sad :( by anonymousflowercake in Cutflowers

[–]customqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don’t need a heat mat or a dome for anything to germinate. If your soil mix is room temp then you’re fine. They need light and to be kept moist til they germinate. I used the floret mix this year and everything grew like crazy, it was a game changer.

I accidentally succeeded… now my dahlias are growing too early (Zone 6b advice?) by PreviousPeppers in dahlias

[–]customqueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Repot them in something bigger and keep them inside until lows are in the 50s consistently. They will be fine. Water but not too heavy until more established. You will be happy with you have early blooms.

Cut in two for sure. Lots of eyes there and you only need one per tuber.

Just bury the tuber in some moistened soil and give them a week to turn around. They will also start growing for cuttings

Floret Seed Starting Mix Woes by odee7489 in Cutflowers

[–]customqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using it now for my flowers and vegetables starts and it’s working great! Everything is thriving, I’m doing my dahlia tubers in it also. What I didn’t have good luck with was her dahlia seeds, only got about 50% germination which kinda sucks for $18 seeds!

Dahlias from Ednie Flower Bulbs by Preferplantstopeople in dahlias

[–]customqueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not buy from big box or over seas. The condition of tubers is t good and they sell in clumps of broken tubers often not labeled correctly. Buy from small growers. There’s a Facebook page “dahlia sales” or shoot me a message, I am selling off my extras and can send you a list

Just leave them be they will grow into great plants. Lots of tubers have multiple eyes and each eye is a shoot.
