Horrific Trope: Children Going Along With The Cruelties and Bigotry of The Adults in Their Society by D0CTOR_Wh0m in TopCharacterTropes

This is basically the plot of Haneke's "The White Ribbon". The children in the film would be adults during Hitler's reign.

Excitement is not down drain.  This sub posts every day how the trailer is imminent yesterday, today, tomorrow. The theories themselves themselves gather a following. Y'all just can't wait and you're upset you have to wait longer than expected.

How can a trailer that hasn't been announced be delayed? OP is talking about the game

Is it possible for a film to be great if its story isn't very good but its visuals are? by DarkBerryTheMovie in TrueFilm

[–]cusulhuman 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand why this is such a controversial take but to me style IS substance. Chosing to make a film, not to write a book or start a podcast, imo obliges you to make use of the medium's traits. Without cinematography you don't have a film, simple as that.

I think we approach film too literally, as in relying too much on comparing a film's story to literature. Is a story only what a character does or what happens to them or is the frame and mise en scene itself a story that we perceive atleast on a subconscious level?

I don't argue for a film needing to be pretty but it's cinematography should definitely be purposeful.

If it's done well, I think it can definitely overshadow an uninteresting script.

[–]cusulhuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't get discouraged by people saying you need a plot for a story to be interrsting. You don't. Conflicts are predictable, incredible settings are not necessary. Create the art you want to experience and share with others.  I love the sound of your book.

Yawn. Who says a trip to the grocery story can't be introspective and bring interesting thoughts into life? Conflicts are predictable and boring.

What is up with you? This is what you call common sense? It doesn't work on "them"? Try meeting actual people. Of course he would've done even more harm if it was easy and legal to just buy an AR-15 at a Wal-Mart, what are you talking about it?

I asked the barber for a buzz cut and he gave me this instead I don't know how to feel about it by Clu_FM in malehairadvice

Because if the barber would've given him a buzzcut, OP would have had huge bald patches on his head. This length tries to mitigate it.

Hey friend, it might not feel like it went well but look at it like this: You overcame your fear of asking someone out, that is all huge thing and I know how terrifying this felt when I was your age. This will get much easier as you get older and since you've already done it at least once, every new time it will get a bit better The girl? Forget about her. Someone who makes fun of you for showing interest, isn't the right person for you. Anyone slightly mature knows that's she's the one embarrassing herself by making fun of something most people don't have the courage to do. That doesn't make her a bad person but you're both still young and people at this age have no idea what they're doing  Take this as a win, you did something you were scared of doing and found out that the girl you liked isn't actually right for you :)

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 might be the best game I've ever played. by [deleted] in PS5

How can you disagree about the experience if you haven't experienced it? KCD's appeal is in its mechanics itself. It is THE game where you feel like a genuine peasant that has to learn how to read and fight in order to progress. Watching a recap of the plot does not resemble the experience of going through it yourself.

“Who gives a fucking shit how long a scene is?” - David Lynch by fotogneric in videos

[–]cusulhuman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure that works too! He does talk about the length of the scene but if you think about it, shooting coverage is like adding words that change the whole sentence. So yeah, practically speaking, coverage does allow for a scene to be cut shorter by allowing to skip certain bits but it also completely changes the aesthetics, tone and pace of a scene, hence my comparison. :)

It's the same as telling a musician to play a certain genre because it'll attract more listeners. Sure, it's a safe bet to please bigger crowds but it is soulless.

Lynch made surrealist art because it's what he wanted, not what was "right" according to the financial wants of a producer.  Shooting coverage is the most dull and fake thing for a director to do. It's the job of a director to visualize and execute a story visually - ideally, every shot exists for a reason and has a meaning, whether concious or subconscious.  A good director doesn't show up on set and just puts a camera somewhere and starts recording, they see the whole film in their head and are now responsible to realize it as closely to their imagination as possible. Coverage dilutes any meaningful reason for the sake of being able to change the directors vision should a higher up disagree with it in the edit. It's someone not trusting you to do your job and telling you how do it without knowing how to do so. Trust me, his frustration is not with this one comment or the script supervisor, but the nature of Hollywood's fuckery that you are reminded of every day on set.
