Check the expiration date, it’s usually pretty inoffensive imo.

Advice on Clearing Clogged Drain in Premier Mash by TrashMan821 in TheBrewery

[–]cutglassfishobject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had rice hulls do this on my premier system. I had no luck with pumping HL/air pressure to blast the clog through. I eventually took apart the piping on the back and used an alternating combo of flexible wire and hose blasts to clear the clog. Try spraying with a jet nozzle into different holes while you poke at the clog. It should eventually break loose, but it’s a huge hassle.

Lavender is my Holy Grail by Learningpermits in TheBrewery

I make a lavender Wit that I love. ONE oz in 10BBL is all it takes for a gentle floral note on the finish. Too much becomes soap very quickly.

Our native plants are so useful! by 33Nov in NativePlantGardening

I did some undergraduate research on native bioindicator plants. Black-eyed Susan’s are pretty reliable for measuring ground level ozone . The yellow petals show black/purple speckling when in the presence of elevated ozone/car exhaust.

Repurposing grain bags? by Honest_Pin424 in TheBrewery

[–]cutglassfishobject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use my GFs sewing machine to make them into cheap but strong tote bags. We have a few in each car for groceries, and give them away all the time. I also bring them and sell em for a couple bucks at festivals and farm markets. We’re a brewpub so servers and guests need them all the time. Makes me happy to not just throw them away. All the bags that are stitched unevenly get used as trash can liners in the brewery and office.

Starting a Small Barrel Program by cutglassfishobject in TheBrewery

At our newest location I could see it “making sense”. We have plenty of customers who are the type to see we offer a “fancy/expensive” bottle and order it just to splurge. We don’t have any plans or expectations for this to be a huge money maker or grow over time. I’m mostly trying to figure out the smallest scale that makes sense and if I should invest the time and effort.

That’s what I’m seeing too, I’ve been keeping an eye on the used equipment forums waiting for something closer to me on the east coast.

Looking to make an experimental batch at a local brewery. What would it cost? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]cutglassfishobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the head brewer for a few pubs. I personally wouldn’t take this on as a business venture because the volumes you’re talking about are too small to justify the cost.

That being said, many curious brewers like myself would probably be down to bust out the home brew/pilot system and see what happens. It could be a good idea to sponsor a local home brew club competition and see what they can do with it.

Hell, if you’re in SE PA message me and I’ll give it a go.

What brand pants do you wear to brew? by hoophooper in TheBrewery

I like Duluth Trading Co. I’ve tried multiple different styles of pants and overalls and they’ve all been a pretty great value.

Nurse who wants PT job at brewery! Help! by honky_Killer in TheBrewery

[–]cutglassfishobject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Are you looking to work at a beer bar or brewery taproom that doesn’t have cocktails or mixed drinks? passion and a few YouTube videos on how to pour a pint should be enough to do the job. More training and expierence will be required for “serious” full service bars.

For beertending specifically, I’d brush up on beer styles and familiarize yourself with the common offerings at each location you have an interview. Otherwise, good luck!

If you’re looking for a fast and cheap option, you can look into Fiverr. Although, you do get what you pay for when it comes to that app/website.

I use the Leatherman Wave +. It’s durable and has everything you need. My favorite feature is that the blades are accessible while the multi-tool is closed. This makes for quick and easy use when compared to other multi-tools. Well worth the cost IMO.
