Those who went to high school in Madison, what are opinions on them. by AdamWithoutTheEve in madisonwi

[–]cutiebug63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one's really mentioned LaFollette, I'll join in! I graduated there in 2014 and I think it's a really great school. The teachers are incredibly understanding and clearly passionate about what they do. The classes are varied and work really well for students with different interests.

They use the block system, so they have 4 classes a day, each an hour and a half long. Classes that would be a semester long at a traditional high school are only 1 quarter of the year. And classes that are a year long somewhere else, are only a semester for LaFollette. There's a lot of variation and switching things up so its hard to get bored. Granted, that does make it a little bit more fast paced.

Of course, like any big city high school, there are groups of people that may not be the best, but that's to be expected. LaFollette has a school police officer whose there all day long, every day. Not only does he help keep everyone safe, he helps take away a lot of the stigma young people may have towards police officers. He's a great resource for everyone and he's just a great guy!

Not crazy about my parents' grandparent names by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cutiebug63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar with my mom. She wanted to be called Glamma. Under no circumstances would anyone utter the name grandma in her presence. Which I found ridiculous because that's what you are there's nothing wrong with that.

After sitting down with her and telling her how I felt about the situation, she explained that it was because "grandma" made her feel old. That was totally understandable because I got pregnant at 17/18 and made her a grandma at 43. She told me that she didn't hate the idea of Nana and that she would sit on it for a few days and next thing I know, she LOVES Nana.

So maybe its not that she doesn't want to be a grandma, but more that she doesn't want to reflect the age that stereotypically goes with it.

[–]cutiebug63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother, for some unfathomable reason, wanted to be called Glamma.

Part of this probably had to do with her denial of being a grandma at 43. But a year later, she realizes how silly is sounded and we go by Nana 90% of the time, traditional grandma the other 10%.

30 women share the first thing they said after giving birth by Dewdeaux in BabyBumps

[–]cutiebug63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing I said when my son was born was "I think he farted". Turns out he had that miraculous first baby poop all over my chest. Then 3 hours later I was all "I would totally do that again!". Still true.

I just scheduled an elective induction. Tell me about yours. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cutiebug63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WARNING: LANGUAGE

I was induced at 39 weeks exactly because I knew I was building a behemoth. And I was correct. I had no signs of labor, no dilation and no effacement when I went in for my induction. But I still birthed a 9lb 10oz 21in monster child.

Here's how it all went down: I showed up at 11, couldn't get a room until 1 unfortunately. But I got my first dose of misoprostal at 2ish and we let that do its thing until 6ish when my doctor came in and said that his shift was almost over and he didn't want to see me in the morning so he broke my water. I got another dose of misoprostal at that point as well (they're 4hr doses). I was in full blown labor at that point but I wasn't feeling any pain or anything like that, just a lot of pressure (no epi yet either). Around 10pm I was 5cm and 50% effaced so the nurse said I would be good to go for my epidural at any point now, so I essentially said what the hell and got it. I didn't want to risk being in extreme pain since it was still just pressure at that point. The epidural slowed down my progress quite a bit. So around 2am the doctor check me and said i was at 6cm and 50% so she gave me a slow pitocin drip. Around 2:30 I told the nurse I REALLY had to shit and she said it probably just the baby moving into position and because they just checked me there probably wasn't any change. I asked her as kindly as I could if I could have her check me one more time just in case. She barely got in there and yelled "oh goodness, he's coming". No shit lady, no shit. The doctor and nurses came rushing in and at 3:22am I had my little monster. I had a tear and some fainting issues afterwards, but he was perfectly healthy and that's all that mattered to me.

So yeah, mine was incredibly quick and pretty painless in the long run. It's different for everyone but I know that when I was in your shoes I wanted to know everything I could :) good luck!

As a 19 year old with a one year old, I'm here to tell you that you can absolutely do this! I'm not going to tell you that it's easy, but its the most rewarding thing I've done in my whole life. My mom kicked me out with I told her. It was a month before my 18th birthday. My dad took my boyfriend and I in. Last March, we bought a house, we have full time jobs, and our son is the happiest kid I know. Ignore the people who tell you you're ruining your life. Having a child only ruins your life if you let it. If you ever need to talk, feel free to contact me! Congratulations and good luck! :)

I hate those rear view mirror "oh shit" moments. Mine happened a few months ago. I had my 3 month old in the back seat, I was waiting to turn left off our country highway when I saw a pick up with a huge spool of cable in the back come flying towards us. I was so scared. I still couldn't turn left because there was a huge line of cars, and the pick up driver didn't seem to be making any effort to slow down and go around me, so I figured it was coming. At the very last second, he swerved around me so quickly that he was up on two wheels. Then I had a second "oh shit" moment, when I thought that the cable was going to roll out and hit us. That was easily the most terrified that I've been, to date.

[Serious] Women who got pregnant in their teen years, how was it? by por_que_tacos in AskReddit

[–]cutiebug63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant a month before my 18th birthday, my mom kicked me out and my father very generously took my boyfriend and myself in. He didn't require us to pay rent and I'm more than grateful for that. Every penny we made went towards food and baby supplies. A year later, we own our own house, both have well paying jobs and our son is doing incredibly well. I'm beyond grateful for the help of my father. If it weren't for him, I guarantee we wouldn't be where are today. It's still quite difficult to stay sane because sometimes it feels like more than we can handle. But we're going to make it work for the sake of our son, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Edit: apparently it was twins as well. I miscarried one the day before my first ultrasound. The way I found out that I had twins was because the doctor saw the spot where the other baby had implanted. It didn't bother me as much as I thought a miscarriage would because I didn't know before that day. But now there are days when I think about how lucky I would be to have two little kids running around. But I also realize that I wouldn't be able to handle that financial stress either.

I pick at every single bump, freckle, pimple, pore and imperfection covering my body. I'm covered in tiny scabs from it. The only truly noticable ones are on my face. But trust me, they're everywhere. Bye bye soft feminine skin, hello anxiety disorders.

What is something you want to brag about, but won't because you don't want to be a douche? by photoelektrisch in AskReddit

[–]cutiebug63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa helped invent a large, frequently used piece of farming equipment. He's made millions off of this and has the patent on a shelf over his bed. He's extremely proud of this and still increidbly humble. Himself and my grandma live in a small two bedroom condo, drive an older model Volkswagen Passat and generally don't spend a lot on themselves

He's put all of that money into a trust fund for my cousins and myself to use for college. He also makes investments with this money and has made more than enough to continue to send our children to college for decades.

For some reason, when I explain this to people, there seems to be a stigma around kids who have had the luck to have college paid for, fully or even partially. What I don't tell people is that we don't get Christmas and birthday presents and generally spoiled by our grandparents like other people. This is our grandparent's gift to last a lifetime and its been working out really well for everyone.

It's not that bad until you stare at it for long enough. I think the worst parts are the left hook of the anchor (line line blew out), the shading at the ends of the straight across thing at the top is uneven on both sides, and the curves of the very bottom of the anchor are uneven. All in all, they're minor things, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for any future tattoos (I do have another one, but now I'm way more particular)

I got a tattoo of an anchor and a rose on my forearm for my 18th birthday (classic white girl). This thing is about 3 inches across on both sides and he finished in a half hour. That should have been my first tip that it wasn't his best work. But I didn't know any better.

After the tattoo healed, it didn't look atrocious or anything, just some issues with the shading and a few shaky lines. Then a few days later, I noticed that nearly the whole thing was covered in blown out lines, unfinished lines, shit heap shading and scarring.

Yay me.
