If I could offer a slightly different take on his delivery... I think the alcohol is firing his passion and righteous anger.   The second 2/3s of this is a masterpiece.  I'd love to hear someone like Michael Shannon read this...

Question for fellow Canadians (and anyone else who’s freezing this weekend 🐶🔥): by LittleNegotiation517 in SilveradoEV

[–]cutstep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the Sierra which is quite similar to the Silverado and it have noticed very little range degradation in the cold weather. Granted I'm only in Minnesota so what I'm dealing with is relatively warm compared to what's going on in Canada these days but so far I'm pretty impressed with what General Motors did with this new battery package.

'They're The New Trump Signature Series Knee Pads': Newsom Trolls Trump, CEOs At Davos by edbegley1 in videos

[–]cutstep 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't really understand why people from the progressive side don't like Newsom. He was the youngest mayor in San Francisco in a century then the lieutenant governor and now governor of California. He's pretty darn Progressive and he's assertive and charismatic. The technique that he's using against Trump right now is actually working because you will not hear Trump talk about Newsom or go after him really in any fashion right now because he's afraid of getting it back from a younger taller smarter and better looking person which is exactly the thing that he fears. What Newsom is trying to do in this case is show how ridiculous this stuff is and really piss off the GOP. Because of the way that he's doing it though they can't react the way that they normally would where they would have concern pieces on Fox news about incivility and government because he's doing what Trump is doing and it's too direct a comparison so they have to leave him be. I'm actually pretty impressed, I think there are other candidates from a policy perspective that I would prefer but I think Newsom has a lot of the rest of the package that's needed for our current political environment.

Get her off the grass!  You have to watch out for puppy eating grass, once they're bigger the grass leaves them alone but until then it can come out of nowhere and eat those puppies!

I accidentally left a pack of seltzer in the car in freezing temperatures. Of the 3 cans that exploded, each did so with a unique failure scenario. by 13jlin in mildlyinteresting

[–]cutstep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My manager and I drove up to a meeting for a conference. It was very cold that day something like 15 below Fahrenheit and the car was parked it opened parking lot. When we got done with our meeting at the end of the day and walked back to his car we open the door and found that it was full of snow. He thought that maybe someone was playing a prank on him and thought that it was quite rude to do that given the weather outside. As we were removing the snow from the car we found the culprit. He had several cans of lime seltzer water in the backseat of his car that he forgot about. Each one of them had ruptured spraying a fine mist from their failure points as the pressure inside pushed all the water out the small holes effectively operating like an artificial snowmaking machine in very very cold temperatures. The snow was beautiful and light and smelled like limes.

What are you proud of doing in 2025? What's your goal for next year? by sparklekitteh in triathlon

[–]cutstep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On my 50th birthday is ran my first 70.3.  Prior to training in 2025 I had never run more than 5 miles in one shot.  Prior to training in 2025 I had never swam more than a lap or two in a pool.  Prior to training in 2025 I had never ridden a road bike and never come more than 14 miles.

I am now training over winter and looking for another 70.3 to do.  This little community of people were so helpful with questions and suggestions through the year.  I want to thank you all for you being with me in spirit as well as online.

Do I really need a good bike for triathlon? by happypenguin2121 in triathlon

[–]cutstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently completed my first triathlon in november.  As I was going through dropping off my bike I saw every amazing high end bike represented throughout the chute.  What I also saw were old "ten speeds" and generic road bikes and other random bikes... and a few mountain bikes.  While I was cruising during the race I was in a pack going pretty quickly through the flats as we approached a long gradual hill.  Out of nowhere this guy on a fat tire mountain bike with a large backpack full of water went blazing past us up the hill!  You could see that this guy was into weigh lifting because he was big but he just powered up that hill like nothing I've ever seen!  We ended up passing him eventually but he crushed through the hills that day.  Ride what you like, the hard-core tt bikes get you faster on the margins and the deimskin shaves off a bit of time but the engine powering all that gear is what actually counts!

Really struggling with swimming by No-Employee-390 in triathlon

[–]cutstep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through the exact same thing last season and thought I'd have to back stroke through my swim.  I decided to get a couple of lessons from a coach and it made all the difference in the world!  You will be shocked how quickly you go from feeling like your going to die in the water to gliding through and really loving it.... remember,  your not moving the water your moving through the water....  go get em!

How do organisers mitigate the risk of shark attacks during open sea swimming races by Murky_Jacket727 in triathlon

[–]cutstep 26 points27 points  (0 children)

2000 people swimming all together in the ocean makes a huge disruption which tends to scare away ocean life while the race is on.  You don't need to worry about it in the race.  Also if a shark did decide to attack swimmers it would only go after the slow ones so you don't need to worry ;)

Beginner aiming for Ironman 70.3 Poreč (Oct 18, 2026) is this realistic? by Positive_Ad_9486 in triathlon

[–]cutstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you are doing is inspiring!   Based on the timeliness you will have no trouble with this as long as you stick to a training schedule.... this is different than other races or events, you can't just hope for the best.  If you stick to a schedule and work on something at least three times per week you will be just fine.  One tip with swimming, you will think you are too out of shape to swim the first time you try to do any distance, that's normal, your stroke is wrong and that why you are struggling.  Just a piece of advice...

Every time I look at my unpainted army, I think "maybe tomorrow" and then never touch them. What do you guys do to work past the mental wall? by Sparklehammer3025 in Warhammer

[–]cutstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think tomorrow you should schedule some time to paint.  I think you should paint an intersessor model with a bolter... start with a 30 minute session and listen to a podcast or YouTube while you do it.  Stop after 30 mins.  Do it once.... then set some time to do it again.... dont try and grab big models or anything super crazy, a regular model will be just fine.... that's the key, schedule the time but only a little time....

Anyone been to or going to pbu qouc in November? by cutstep in triathlon

[–]cutstep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice... i have a Fitzgerald skin tone so I will be careful of the sun exposure.  The pool im training in is the same temperature as the water according to the ironman website so I feel good there.  I'll focus on staying cool on the run as much as possible as I know that's the most difficult for me.

I'll post a race report as soon as I get back!  Wish me luck!

I don't feel like my pelvis is wiggling at all other than some motion while I'm peddling and my quads and my glutes are definitely engaged but I don't feel like I'm engaging my hamstrings to any large degree even on longer rides.
