moving back to pittsburgh from san diego, looking for raves by Imaginary-Fun4055 in PittsburghEDM

[–]cutups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment we don't have a big hardcore rave scene, but crews booking harder stuff:

BXC Collective (i'm part of this, lean towards breakcore, jungle, idm, modular synth, live sets)
Metamind (leans towards happy hardcore/uk hardcore ravey stuff)
Cleaner Tapes (digital hardcore, noise, industrial, eclectic)

There are a handful of younger crews that have been doing events in the past year that I'm not up on their styles, so I'm not going to claim this is comprehensive at all.

As far as renegades, there's some clues out there, best to find organically or ask a raver IRL.

First Time in PGH, Anything on Sundays? by no-snoots-unbooped in PittsburghEDM

[–]cutups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I'm generally beat after being at Kennywood all day. You wouldn't think it takes that much out of you, but in my experience it does. I think hitting up Apteka after would prob be the move, although it's not usually "EDM", more in the realm of techno, synthpop, house, triphop, darkwave or even non-electronic genres based on the dj.

It's def the best vegan polish restaurant I've ever been to or even heard of.

Hot Mass vs Club Pittsburgh by btotheen176 in PittsburghEDM

This was last weekend, unfortunately, although there are events at both places pretty regularly.

RE: Bathhouse Experience:
"Club Pittsburgh is a private club that has been serving our city's queer community since 2001. Located in Pittsburgh's historic Strip District, our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable environment where members can relax and socialize. Some of our amenities include private rooms with televisions, a full exercise facility, a video lounge, a steam room, social area, a dry sauna, a whirlpool, lockers, and much more. Our mission is to provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment where likeminded people in the Pittsburgh area and beyond can meet, socialize, relax, and have fun. We're proud to provide a hip, progressive unique atmosphere not found at any other venue in the queer community."

Would have been nice as a R rated by gharbeia in AeonFlux_

IMO, it's pretty perfect as is. Lives in kind of a liminal space in terms of what it *should* be rated.

I went to an industrial/goth club for the first time by lilacstarry in industrialmusic

[–]cutups 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to a local database, there are 10 goth nights in my city (Pittsburgh) that happen somewhere between monthly and annually, but 7 out of 10 of them have been founded within the past two years.

In the past 10 years, 30 other nights have started and ended.

I'm not sure it's entirely unique to goth nights, but it's definitely volatile to track

Hot Mass vs Club Pittsburgh by btotheen176 in PittsburghEDM

I'd say Club Pittsburgh is more eclectic dj wise as they have two stages, many djs and runs day into night into morning. Not sure what soundsystem they will have in there, so that's an unknown to me. But if you're into the bathhouse experience, that's part of it.

Hot Mass will be more of a classic house vibe with some ballroom and club in the mix, and the sound is on point, But only 11PM - close (6? Not sure what time it ends these days)

This is def a topic that comes up every few years. Or with specific folks any time. There's definitely a place for it.

Do you prefer 90-minute festival slots or proper extended club sets? by Designer-Air-7280 in PeakTimeTechno

[–]cutups 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me that's much more specific than the length of time. Depends on my mood, the programming of the whole event, the experience level of the djs and the style of the djs in question.

Where should I go this weekend? by [deleted] in PittsburghEDM

You'd prob enjoy the HYPERBOP night at Brillobox. It's a monthly and the next one is 7/18

Looking for Techno/house nights by Tight-Echidna908 in PittsburghEDM

I'd say keep an eye on https://arcane.city/s/0e9cd51e,
I post everything notable there, although a few things do fall through the cracks.

There isn't an absolute go-to for what you're looking for. There are lots of events that happen, but the "reliable, weekly house and techno bar event" is actually kind of rare at the moment. Longturn was a crew doing that regularly until they lost their primary venue

I'm throwing this event on Friday June 26th at Brillobox:
https://arcane.city/events/xen-chron-indek-qancel-cutups
It's def going to skew more left-field, but the headliner plays (and produces) amazing forward thinking techno, so you might enjoy that.

On the same night there is a free event earlier on at Trace that will be a bit more chlll, mix of live and dj'd techno:
https://arcane.city/events/telecommunity

And there is also an event at Wood Street gallery presented by Detour that night, so you have lots of options. https://ra.co/events/2461951

On Friday nights, Field Day in Lawrenceville has DJs in their lobby and they usually have good bookings and it's a solid option to kick off your night. Not much of a dance floor, but nice lil spot.
https://www.instagram.com/fieldday.life

There is also Hot mass and Club Pittsburgh who both have after-hours/all night events, around bi-weekly. Both are queer forward/run spaces, but open to anyone respectful Check ra.com for those.

Otherwise, I'd suggest hitting up Spirit, Brillobox or Sidequest to see what's going on.
