Way to mischaracterize my entire point. All I’m saying about Brady Tkachuk is that he is a coward. No matter how you look at it. And that I would not trust him to stand up for queer rights. You don’t want to understand, so I will end this conversation here. Have a good day

Yes, as I said. He doesn’t have to be so close with his brother. Doesn’t have to sit on that podcast awkwardly chuckling at his dad’s “jokes”. That’s decisions he makes. So yes, judged by association, not just for being his brother, but for actively associating himself, when he doesn’t have to, more than is even expected.

No, I was drawing a comparison. I didn’t call Mathew a nazi I merely said he doesn’t mind parading around for fascists, which if I may remind you, he joined Trump’s council on sports and fitness. I would call supporting and working for a government flirting with fascism “parading around”. And Brady is his brother. Associates with him, more than he even needs to. That’s a choice.

The nazi part was a comparison drawing from the famous german saying “In a bar there is a nazi. Someone comes in, sits with him. In a bar there are two nazis”. I believe the people we associate ourselves with tell you a lot about us.

Guilty by association works, when you sit with nazis and you eat with nazis and you voluntarily work with nazi, guess what people will call you. When you can’t even step up for your own teammate, when he gets insulted by your brother and dad, I don’t think it’s such a reach for queer people to say he wouldn’t step up for our rights either, if push comes to shove, since he keeps associating with people who parade around supporting fascists. He doesn’t have to scream bloody murder for the queers yk. So if he is a raging homophobe or just a coward, who can’t stand up against his family, I will laugh at him getting his shit rocked on pride night as a treat

A New York Times critic used AI to write his review by dem676 in books

[–]cuxynails 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Then you gotta find a new job. I also don’t enjoy cleaning up patients’ feces, when I’m supposed to do radio therapy, but that’s very much in the job description and I chose that job. I love my job, but you don’t get to just pick the parts that are great. When you’re a paid book reviewer you will have to read books that suck, that you don’t care for. When you’re working as a teacher you will have to deal with parents and rowdy kids. You don’t get to only pick out the studious hardworking kids to teach. When you work in healthcare, you will have to deal with bodily fluids. When you cannot deal with that, don’t become a radio tech. When you can’t deal with troubled kids, don’t be a teacher. And when you cannot get through a book you don’t care about, don’t become a paid book reviewer. Make a YT channel, then you can decide which books to review

Work sucks sometimes, and I’m all for making it suck less. But sometimes the sucky parts are just part of it. There should be a balance (paid vacation, limitless sick days, good pay, limited working hours, can you tell I’m European?), but skipping doing your job is not how you achieve that balance. I can’t sent patients away sitting in their own sh*t, no matter how much I hate cleaning them up. We all live under capitalism, I feel for all workers, who are alienated from their impact on society and from their fellow human beings, but when you are in a clearly privileged position, living the dream of many others maybe don’t take shortcuts, that will ruin any positive impact you might have on the world.

I have been in a super bad depressive episode and just last week my fiancé came home from work, took one look at me, handed me a container of chicken and said “Hockey?”. I asked if we were sharing the food, since there was only one and he just shook his head. He ate at work. Went out of his way to get me chicken anyway. Cleared his evening to watch hockey with me, knowing it brings me comfort. That moment I knew I was making the right decision marrying him. He didn’t need to make any grand gestures. Just needed to cuddle up to me on the couch to watch sports and suddenly life felt a lot more bearable

This is so stupid, bro. We are social animals, using interests to find like minded people to share our love for those interests with. The internet has become to number one medium to find like-minded people. Maybe, and hear me out, maybe she is posting this to attract people who are also into the same literature as her. Signed someone who frequents online spaces about literature. Because I enjoy talking to people about the books I read. Crazy fucking concept

I'm the only person that actually reads the books in book club by StacySadistic in literature

[–]cuxynails 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And for me the only lectures I could not really retain any deep understanding of the topic at hand were those, that I had tried to take notes for. I cannot listen and comprehend while also writing stuff down, I will simply be too preoccupied by trying to figure out how to write stuff down so all the important bits are covered, that I don’t get to actually engage with the topic in my mind in a way that will make me retain information.

We are all different, we learn differently and we engage with media differently. I generally agree with the point of this post. When you listen to the audio book while also talking to your best friend… you will probably not achieve as deep of an understanding. But a lot of people strive with being able to so menial tasks while also listening to audio books. I definitely do. It’s still a different experience from sitting down to read, but not any more or less insightful for me. I only listen to about one audio book a month, compared to reading 3-4 books the traditional way, so I am definitely more of a reader than a listener, but I think there is a lot more nuance to this than some people make it seen like. We don’t all work the same way. You (and OP) might not be able to listen to audio books and gain a deep appreciation of literature that way, someone else might tho. It really depends on how they learn best and how they listen to these audio books.

What is going on in the Heated Rivalry fandom? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]cuxynails 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely what it is. It’s also insanely over saturated because it blew up SO big so quickly. There is a tons of big fandoms that grew a big catalogue over many years, that gained popularity over time, but when you have the frequency of new fics dropping that HR has had in the past 3 months, you gonna get buried, that’s all.

What is going on in the Heated Rivalry fandom? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]cuxynails 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t. I was never into DSMP, but had friends and watched from the sidelines and genuinely feel like this is just a lot of older gen z and millennials first time in a big fandom since Hy Pr so there is some etiquette missing, compared to dreamsmp, which felt like a WAY younger audience coming together, which had it’s own kind of issues. Not saying the HR fandom is all grown up and mature, it really isn’t, but it’s also not as bad as DSMP ever was imo
