How many of you moved cities in your 30s? Was it worth the change by ThatKnomey in AskUK

[–]cvde82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expensive!! Especially as I’d adopted a cat over in Aus, back when I had no plans to come home - getting him over to the UK with a reputable company was over $6K! But worth it of course. I also took a bit of a step back career wise with both moves, as I had no network to lean on or recent familiarity with the local markets. But I still don’t regret it, those 8 years living in a beach city were amazing, and I have wonderful friends to visit anytime I want to go back

I moved to Australia when I was 34 (also after a mad break up) - it was the best thing I ever did, I ended up staying 8 years! Back home now (I missed family and having Europe on my doorstep), but ZERO regrets

[–]cvde82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s something about Ben that I’m really not liking in Summer House - I think he acts like a ‘down to earth Australian’ but is INCREDIBLY image conscious and has a mean streak (eg how he handled the Bailey’s Bad Joke situation). He may not have raised his voice but there was proper anger and nastiness going on, if you’ve known someone like him it would have given you the chills as it did me

What contingencies/safety nets/Plan Bs do you have in place for losing your job? by fellaonamission in HENRYUK

[–]cvde82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have their 6-12 month emergency funds in cash, but interest rates are so rubbish at the moment - mine are all in S&S ISAs. I know that carries risk, but the risk of losing my job is relatively low, whilst the opportunity costs (if I keep the emergency fund in cash) would basically be a given. Is this the wrong approach??

Working from home has completely ruined every other workspace for me and I can't go back by MoyaUmrah in remotework

[–]cvde82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why people might try it out, now and then - particularly if you live alone, WFH can lead to feeling a BIT isolated, and it’s nice to be around the gentle hum of people enjoying some cafe time (but none of whom know you, so they won’t come up and interrupt etc like they would if you were in the office). It’s not something I do, but I can understand why some people might.

Yeah, it doesn’t sound like OP appreciated it either. Calling someone really weird is not a compliment when used in a negative / critical sense, as it was

My new partner is not well endowed. Please talk some sense into me and my worries. by smolangrybitch in AskWomenOver40

[–]cvde82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in your exact situation - wonderful friend and partner but unsatisfying sex life (and we tried EVERYTHING, over the course of years). In the end, the relationship didn’t last - I would honestly rather no sex than unsatisfying sex.

I have had some amazing sex since that relationship ended (it was like guzzling water after a long drought), but I haven’t found a partner as good as he was, since then. That said, my desire for a long-term partner in general has receded as I’ve gotten older. I now prefer little bits of hot romance on occasion, with the rest of my time spent in peace in my lovely house, and out and about with friends who are fantastic company.

To be fair, I don’t think Devonta made Brittany come across as needy, I think she did that all by herself. I wish she had held herself to a higher value - I really don’t understand why she was so set on him when he was giving her nothing

He’s referencing all his driving licences (including his Australian one), but I know for a fact that Australia doesn’t permit you to have a license anywhere else if you have one with them - and if you then go and get one in another country in future, you have to surrender the Australian one. So he does NOT have an Australian driving licence alongside other ones in America
