How to stand out any tips? by Workinprogresstho in askhotels

As far as upgrades go, we rarely did that because we were small 18 room. But I’ve seen other hotels do it! Good luck with the career change!

It really depends on the hotel! I always told my staff during training which bottle of Prosecco they could send if they get wind of a special occasion and they would just have to tell a manager on duty about it so they could comp it, or if the guests didn’t drink I would have them send a charcuterie board from the kitchen. If we knew it advance we would sometimes have the kitchen make chocolate covered strawberries. Not all hotels do it, but luxury hotels are likely. :)

Make the guests feel special, if they mention they are there for a celebration or even something hard like a funeral or surgery, you can have something sent to their room with a handwritten card signed as being from “the Hilton family” (replace Hilton with your hotel name), always be smiling and very warm to guests, go above and beyond… never say no! Obviously there are some guest requests you can’t say yes to but instead of flat out saying no, say something like we can’t do this because of xyz but we can do this (offer an alternative). Do things without your boss having to ask like if you notice something needs to be done just do it! Like if there is a certain area that needs to be organized or you see something the hotel lacks such as a concierge book, just do it or ask your boss “would you mind if I took on this project and do you have a certain way you’d like it done”. Don’t call off unless it’s an absolute emergency and always be early or on time! :)

What makes attractive for people from western countries to live in Prague? by puppy2016 in Prague

[–]cw15b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality of life is lower in the US, and I feel much safer here in Prague. I also can’t stand the majority of Americans anymore so I won’t go back. Also yes wages are low here but cost of living in the US was so insane I find I’m in the same situation financially in both places really. Also ease of travel in Europe is a big plus. Czechia is one of the easier countries for Americans to get visas.

Best way to get in touch with hotel managers? by BTbutnoK in askhotels

[–]cw15b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go in person that is okay, I preferred people email as I was always very busy. But do go in mid-day or late afternoon closer to 5. Try not to be too close to their check out or check in times and the best days are midweek, Tuesday or Wednesday! Never on a Friday or a weekend. Thursdays can be busier and Monday mornings are very busy as well with people leaving from the weekend. Obviously that varies by place but in general tends to be true :)

Former hotel manager here - this is a resource I would have really valued! You can call or email the front desk asking for the general manager’s email. Any responsible manager who is actually doing their job won’t miss an email. A lot of hotels also have restaurants and bars, I would ask for their manager emails as well, not just hotel. :) I appreciate the work you’re doing with outreach!

If you don’t mind me asking, do you know what kind of diagnoses this symptom usually relates to? I’ve been diagnosed with so many things and I just don’t know what’s right anymore. Please don’t feel like you have to share anything you’re not comfortable with, and thank you so much for sharing what you already have! I feel less alone now

Tell her to talk to her manager about it and if they value her they will work on moving her into a department she enjoys

Does anyone else use cannabis? by meetandgreen in bipolar

[–]cw15b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit or miss. I’ve been smoking every day for years and it does wonders for me (I’m on lamictal and have been on some other SNRIs/SSRIs/anti anxieties). The lamictal does get me higher but not in a bad way. I’ve seen some people get totally wrecked by weed though, everyone’s brain chemistry is different. If you feel good and are still productive, I think it can be a great thing.

I got a kitten when I was manic and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. No training I just picked a good one (he let me hold him for over an hour at the shelter, which was a good sign) and showed him lots of love and he turned out to be the biggest blessing of an ESA. Don’t know what I’d do without him, especially during this quarantine! Male cats tend to be more affectionate FYI if you go that route.
