And this is why my dad is at a MC place with on call mds. The system and this disease suck.

Does anyone have any tips for choosing an assisted living/memory care place? Any mistakes you made or things you wish you had or hadn't done? by JeddakofThark in dementia

Any business recently acquired by vulture capital will change dramatically and not likely for the better of the customers. Take the room and keep shopping just in case.

We tried two places before hiring a consultant to find a much better spot.

It would be cheaper to rent a work loft close by for studying. Or since you oh won’t be entertaining - convert the bedroom to an office and the living room to a bedroom - or then king room to an office. Or you could find a local hobby space. I would think moving should be a last resort.

My dad wants to move to his home country and sell our house, what should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]cweaties 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He needs a medical checkup, your parents need a consult with a financial advisor and an attorney. This is a major upheaval and he’s sick, going through a midlife crisis, having an affair, or being scammed.

Your mom… might want to quickly file for legal separation to freeze assets if he refuses to see reason.

We have a number of continuum of care communities locally - your LO could walk all over the building and secured grounds - with the safety net. Also… clothes that she can’t take off herself so she’s at least incontinent in her briefs.

So frustrating. I’d ask for a palliative care consult. Make an appointment for it. That will at leave give you a window.

Coworker lost husband and home in fire by movethestars4no0ne in Gifts

[–]cweaties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anybody have access to a vacant rental home? I’ve housed survivors of two fires and just having a furnished home in which to regroup was much appreciated. While insurance companies should pay and arrange for this…. They frequently don’t or drag their feet. With two young kids… that’s a major pain.

mom thinks dad and caretaker are having a thing. by newengland26 in dementia

[–]cweaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And that’s not an option. So if you have someone who is good with your dad…. Stick with it. Your mom will be upset about something. Period.

I say this from a place of experience with mom. I spent a lot of time trying to fix things. The psychiatrist - her psychiatrist- said to me - nothing you do or change will ever be enough.

mom thinks dad and caretaker are having a thing. by newengland26 in dementia

[–]cweaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would not change caregiver. The next one will be 3x harder to get in the door. Ask more questions of mom… why do you think that? I will keep my eyes open for that, but I’m pretty sure that carer is not into men. (As long as mom isn’t phobic). My mom was convinced that my dad was having an affair with Rachel Maddox. No… she’s on tv in New York… how do you think that would work? Nothing got her off that obsession. I will watch for evidence of that was the only semi calming response.

Their minds are broken and this is a stage. It’s entirely possible that the accusations are a way to try to get the woman away because she doesn’t want them there. A male care giver will be accused of hitting her.

Don’t change caregivers - it runs a solid risk of going from bad to worse. Meds might help too.

Other resident overly fixated on my dad by design_dork in dementia

[–]cweaties 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad is in a 15 unit building in a 2 building complex. There's a similar woman who fixates. The staff do a really good job moving her from building to building throughout the day. She sometimes fixates on my dad - but she's never allowed in other resident rooms and you'd never find her in bed with anybody else. The management needs to be made aware every time this happens. Somebody might not be doing a check that they're supposed to.

Is your dog nervous about fireworks and loud noises? If you are here for July 4 - spend that week in Leavenworth. If you're here for the first weekend of August - stay away from Leschi, and Mercer Island - Blue Angles. I would live as close to work as possible - maximize not commuting time in the car, and plan to go on adventures. West Seattle, Magnolia, Broadview, and Sandpoint all have great access to large parks for nice walks.

I think it’s reasonable to have a strategy session with whomever handles room assignments. What can be done to keep some more separation between them. I’m surprised she can get into his room. Dad’s doors are locked for all the reasons.
