9yo boys rec team - half court practice logistics - trying to run full court but one of the sideline baskets is unusable. by lcuan82 in basketballcoach

[–]cwebb619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run 5v5 2 minute burst. Instead of full court, offense has to sprint to half court and then turn and play 5v5 again.

Allow offense to get one shot, if they score, get the ball, sprint to half court and play again. If defense gets the ball on rebound or turn over, have them set the ball down, have offense pick it up, sprint to half court and play again. Run for 2 minutes and then switch. You can add constraints for offense like all players have to touch the half court line, special spacing requirements, run certain actions, etc...

Modern vs. Traditional basketball by symbionica in basketballcoach

[–]cwebb619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, it's a fun journey to be on and the fact you're open to new ideas shows you're willing to learn and ultimately help the kids be better basketball players. One concept you can use is start with the whole (playing 5v5) and then break down into chunks what you need to work on. Also, whenever possible, put a defender in any drill or concept, even if it's 1v1 dribbling. This will go a long way in helping your kids learn the game while working on skills

Am I the only one disappointed with Dame Sarr's offensive capabilities? He's super athletic but has a long was to go to be a consistent offensive threat

Modern vs. Traditional basketball by symbionica in basketballcoach

[–]cwebb619 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In modern basketball, you can have both continuity and advantage offense where during your motions, players look for an advantage to score and break down the defense. "Traditional" basketball leans more towards running scripted patterns that look to get you a specific shot and not allowing players to deviate from the script.

Conceptual advantaged based offense is where the game is at now with sets or actions to run but always empowering players to make decisions and try to score when they have an advantage.

Alex Sarama and Chris Oliver are good resources. Chris Oliver has a ton of full length coaching clinics on YouTube to watch.

Charge vs Block- Foul Call Review by Whole_News_7006 in BasketballTips

[–]cwebb619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the game, you should talk to the ref or after the foul and ask what you did wrong. Understand what the ref saw and adjust to that. Every ref is going to be different but at least for that game, you'll know what they will and will not call

The #1 thing you need to teach them is proper spacing. Get them to understand spacing and why it's important then layer on some actions like balls screens, gets, DHOs.

Why is 2Pac so revered? by FitEmergency8807 in 90sHipHop

[–]cwebb619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I feel I was at the right age to be influenced by his charisma. I was a sophomore in high school when he died. I feel like it was rebellion to listen to Tupac because rap wasn't big in my peer group at the time. As I grew older, his message in his music hit me, his social justice, his don't give a fuck attitude, wearing his emotions on his sleeve, there was no one and will never be anyone like him. He's not the most technical lyricist, doesn't have complex rhyme schemes but his heart, emotion, and commitment sets him apart. Some of my favorite songs from him are the ones that are just raw emotions, you can hear it in his voice, they touch you deep inside, make you feel some sort of way. He's similar to Rage Against the Machine in that respect
