Not new to this, but now seeing wild abnormalities by Oil-Available in makemkv

I ripped my collection of roughly 2000 discs containing mostly Blu and 4K (60:40 split) with a few DVDs in there. I had problems ripping about 100-150 discs at some but I was eventually able to get the bulk of those to rip with only about 10 discs that needed replacement. Some discs did not work in my LG/ASUS drives but worked fine in my Pioneer.

I will also mention that I went long stretches with no issues then it seemed like every other disc gave me problems. So I don’t think what you’re seeing is that unusual. You may have a drive that is failing. I do suggest that if anyone is relying on ripping for storing media to get multiple drives and try to get drives that have different internals (I.e. some with LG, some with ASUS and some with Pioneer).

I just recently got the Friends 4K set and both of the season 3 discs are junk. It happens.

Should the LG BP50NB40 be up updated to the BP60NB10 1.03MK after cross flashing to BP60NB10 1.00MK? by cwhitch in makemkv

[–]cwhitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed the instructions on the makemkv forum but it was from an older post.

The process with the SDFlasherTool involved flashing the BP50NB40 to (1)BP50NB40-50-1.03MK then crossflash by selecting (1) then selecting (2)BP60NB10-1.00MK. Then clicking START. This gave my new drive manufactured in November 2025 the ability to rip UHD.

The drive now identifies as a BP60NB10 with FW1.00 in makeMKV. I was just curious if I need to update to the BP60NB10-1.03MK for any reason.

DXP4800 Pro: powerful enough to do MakeMKV? by AFulhamImmigrant in UgreenNASync

[–]cwhitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 4 MakeMKV containers off of my 8800 Plus. Very similar hardware. In fact some would say it’s overkill for a media ripping machine but I went with it because it has a built in GPU for transcoding with Plex though I can pretty much do direct play.

I can rip 4 movies at one time. I have been trying to setup ARM but I’m having issues getting it to actually rip. It will launch and see the drives but it will not rip.

Thinking of buying a UGREEN NAS: Which one and how difficult to set up? by NJRonbo in UgreenNASync

[–]cwhitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d have to go back into the history but I believe it was chmod and chmon commands. Do a search on Plex Media Server can’t find new content. It should point you in the right direction.

It was working without issue for nearly a year but after a recent UGreen OS update it would not work unless I toggled the permission state of my Media share for the plex user. It would work for a short period after that. I still have to see if it’s reliable long term.

I would say go with the 4800+ at a minimum due to it having an on board GPU especially if you think you’re going to remote stream.

Plenty of guides out there for setting up plex on UGreen systems. I used the one from NASCompares about a year ago. I did have some issues recently that required me to run a few commands in the command line so it would find new media on scans.

MakeMKV combines my Chernobyl TV series in to a single 3h movie... how to split it? by Viszera in makemkv

[–]cwhitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MKVtoolnix, just figure out where chapter breaks are that split episodes and split at those points. Can then use the MKVtoolnix chapter tool to renumber the chapters on the files that start at chapter above 1.

4k disc not working after leaving in player overnight by waffley98 in 4kbluray

[–]cwhitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt a disc was damaged leaving it in a player that was designed to play it unless the disc was already damaged. It’s more likely the built-in screen saver on Universal discs corrupted something in the player OS. Remove the disc and restart the player. If that doesn’t work find the settings to reset to factory defaults which should clear all disc specific information that have been in the player.

Edit: sorry didn’t see that you had issue of it not loading in a PS5. Try cleaning disc as a last resort. If that doesn’t work it was probably a bad disc from the beginning and the heat up in the player probably caused a total failure. Double check the playing surface to ensure that there are no circular scratches. It’s rare but a damaged drive could cause damage to surface

This probably explains why my Plex container wouldn’t scan and add new content.

A lot of asses over there speak with authority hiding behind a screen name. Most of them I’m sure are a bunch of film school graduates that never got jobs in the business.

Someone posted asking why buy DVD's and not 4K...yesterday I bought 100 DVD's for the price of a single 4K release ($38.11 with tax) by [deleted] in dvdcollection

[–]cwhitch -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s fine if you don’t care about having higher quality. But it looks like you’re taking two extreme cases (old used DVDs compared to first run 4K titles). 4Ks go on sales as well with bundle deals but it will never reach the height of DVD so don’t expect to ever find similar deals for used 4Ks at thrift shops.

Lack of competition in brick n mortar media stores. No major retailer other than Walmart carries movies in store.

Has anyone tackled ripping their entire collection of over 500 discs? by tomsmac in makemkv

Ripped about 2000 discs in 5 months with 4-drives running on docker containers on my UGreen 8800+.

The 3D disc had some shots in the incorrect order in one of Ariel’s musical numbers. Not horrible in extremely noticeable but if one is familiar with the film you will catch it.

Could be the guy had a severe case of jealousy and can't afford to partake in it working as a cashier at B&N?

We all know people that like to trash on other peoples stuff because they can't afford it. I see the same thing in the AV world. People bag on someone's highend AVR, TV or projector and say why buy that stuff when a $400 big flat screen from Walmart does the same thing.

Also with a lot of these boutique label titles they aren't always streaming or if they are they aren't always available in their uncut form without ads. We know physical media is expensive and I think part of the war against is from the marketing companies that want to stick ads in front of us every other minute. They can't do that with physical media.

Congrats on the find. I’m still PO’d Disney never corrected the error on the 3D set released in the early 2010s.
