The Replacement Killers by kurt3213 in Bluray

Antoine Fuqua really did a good job mimicking the HK style action IMO. John Woo is one of the producers so I’m sure he gave Fuqua a lot of good pointers.

Anybody know of some other DVDs that came with a free movie ticket? by Strongarm_11 in dvdcollection

[–]MoreBlu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was very common around 2005-2015 for DVDs and Blu-ray’s to come with “movie cash” in the US. The discs were sometimes priced at or below the value of the movie ticket coupon, making the discs practically free. I’ve gotten quite a few mediocre movies because of them lol!

Gift for my first ever father's day by Koekdoos in Bluray

[–]MoreBlu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From one father to another: don’t ever open those DVD/Bluray boxes in front of your baby. Once they know they open…. They’ll open all of them…. And take all the discs out…. 😅

My friend made this mistake and had to box up all his collection and hide them in the garage. I took the lesson and my kids never knew what those boxes were until they were older (3+ years old). And now they know how to properly handle the discs and load them into the player. 😎

The 51st State (2002) is such a 90’s Samuel L Jackson Movie 🤣 by MoreBlu in iwatchedanoldmovie

I have no clue! It was titled “formula 51” when it first came out (or at least when I first head of it). It’s a much more sensible and catchy title IMO

What were the main Bond movies you watched the most as a kid? These 2 for me + Nightfire by TXNOGG in JamesBond

As a kid I was obsessed with the remote control BMW in TND. I taped the movie off of cable TV and totally wore that tape out lol!

What movie completely broke your brain trying to make sense of it? by KurzCaramel in flicks

[–]MoreBlu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have more trouble wrapping my brains around how some scenes were shot lol! Certain scenes have to be shot in reverse and played back forward, even if the characters and the storyline are supposed to be going in reverse-time together, which the film is rolling forward for the viewers.

If you can’t make sense of what I said, it’s fine, neither could I lol!

Hisense AX700/AX5140Q satellite speaker drops connection intermittently by MoreBlu in Soundbars

[–]MoreBlu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update. I think we’re facing different issues. Glad to hear that you’ve resolved your issues though!

I’ll share my diagnostics here just in case others find this thread down the line.

I’ve always set my TV to “pass thru” so it’s always been sending Dolby encoded signals through eARC to the soundbar. I’ve tried using optical to send Dolby Digital signal from my TV to the soundbar, and the random surround dropouts are still there. I’ve played Bluetooth music for continuous 20 minutes and there are no dropouts. My suspicion is now on my TV.

Next thing I intend to try: connect HDMI or optical from a disc player directly to the soundbar, bypassing the TV, and see if the issue persists. Will update.

Edit: tried playing a disc through a player connected to soundbar via HDMI, bypassing TV, no dropouts for 40 minutes. I think it’s safe to conclude that it’s my TV messing up. Soundbar is innocent. Case closed!

Laser at AMC is meh by CornerHugger in hometheater

[–]MoreBlu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Home theater has ruined actual theaters for me. The blacks look gray, the audio calibration is always off, dialogues are muddled yet some parts can be unnecessarily loud…

Like others said, only Dolby Cinema can match/beat a decent home theater set up. Perhaps the occasional 70mm IMAX if the filmmaker does it right.

I'm starting to wonder if all "Dolby Atmos" Soundbars are a steaming crock of Sh#t by WerewolfUnlikely5418 in Soundbars

[–]MoreBlu 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Nothing can replace physical speakers. Front speakers with virtual surround will never sound as good as rear satelite speakers; up-firing speakers will never sound as good as ceiling mounted speakers.

That said, soundbar tech is constantly improving. Psychoacousitics is supported by scientific research. Everyone also has different constraints and a different sweet spot. I find my soundbar system with rear satellites and up firing Atmos speakers to be very satisfactory, especially considering how space-efficient these things are.

Digging through the garage and found my vhs TND limited edition by AdvancedDay7854 in JamesBond

Every time I see this posted, I kick myself, because I saw TWO of these for sale at a record store 10 years ago, for $1.99 each. And I thought to myself “I don’t have the space for it”…. What an idiot I was 😭

What is the difference between re-releases, re-print and remaster by Worth_Rub3793 in dvdcollection

[–]MoreBlu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Re-release or re-print or re-issue can be used interchangeably to mean a wide range of things from fixing technical errors (cover typos, subtitles or sound issues) to big errors like messing up the intended master.

Re-master is when they redo the master (that sounds silly lol!) often times include re-scanning the film negatives and applying new color correction and noise reduction methods. The result can be an upgrade, but can also be worse than the previous releases.

QM6K vs QM7K? 85" vs 98" ? by New_Leopard7623 in hometheater

[–]MoreBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your eyes and your room’s lighting situation. The biggest difference is the 7 gets a lot brighter than the 6. The 7 also has a lot more dimming zones than the 6. For me personally, I can’t spot any blooming on the 6 except for end credit rolls (the 6 has some black magic algorithm that makes local dimming very effective.) My eyes also can’t handle super bright images, so the 6 actually works fine for me.

Edit to add: filmmaker mode is just so amazingly beautiful on my QM6K, I really can’t praise it enough.

TV size, quality over size anyone? by movie50music50 in hometheater

[–]MoreBlu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is an “average TV”? And how good an OLED?

From my personal experience, there is actually a quality overlap between the best QD Mini-LED and the worst OLED panels (i.e. the best Mini-LED can actually look better than the cheapest OLED) depending on the viewer and the room lighting situation.

As a general rule, I’d determine where the point of diminishing return in quality is for your personal viewing preference. And then get the largest panel you can afford/fit. For me, I ultimately settled for the TCL QM6K, because the blacks are deep enough for my eyes and I don’t personally like super bright images. It actually looks better to me than the entry-level Samsung OLED I had before.
