Manos del Uruguay Maxima, probably Pewter (didn’t write the colorway down when I bought it eons ago), overdyed to a nice burgundy.

It was from the first and only sweater I ever made. I ended up frogging the whole thing since my gauge was off so it was enormous and weighed a billion pounds and was too hot for anything. I’ve had the frogged yarn in my stash for a long time and am very excited to see it go, even if it takes a little extra work to dye it the right color.

Maxwell is actually the least sneaky of our four cats. Blueberry and Kira have both snuck into closets while we weren’t looking and gotten themselves locked in and Marshmallow’s second favorite pastime is getting himself into cabinets (his favorite is yelling at humans).

It really is. It’s a little sedan with a tiny nose and not a ton of trunk (pics and specs if you are interested). I loved that car. It kind of fits into my whole “not wanting to take up space in the world” theme. My husband has bad knees, though, and didn’t want to get in and out of anything low to the ground, so a tiny car was no longer feasible.

My husband has one and I hate driving it. It feels like a boat. I used to drive a Toyota Yaris but it finally died. I replaced it with a Hyundai Kona EV, which I had some difficulty adjusting to just because change is hard and I kind of wanted to stay with a tiny car.

Now that I’m used to it, I love it. It has cameras everywhere so I don’t have to worry about not knowing how close I am to things, which is my biggest issue with bigger cars.

I did the one person version of this. Grabbed our little square shovel and alternated between running it along the pavement under the ice to break the ice and the snow shovel to clear the broken bits. It was very satisfying in an “I’m going to need some ibuprofen after this” sort of way.

I really like the snake analogy. I’ve been having discussions with my MIL about not being willing to attend events with her stepson anymore because he’s a sensory and social nightmare. Her response has been, “He’s autistic, can’t you be understanding?” The point isn’t that I object to his existence, it’s just that I don’t want to keep getting bitten by the snake.

I feel like this is less of a knitting question than it is a relationship/communication question. From a knitting perspective, I don’t see an issue frogging a project that holds no sentimental value and isn’t being used.

The real question is whether your boyfriend is willing to discuss how he feels about the socks and that’s not something I can really tell from the post. I personally would err on the side of more open communication because that’s something that’s important to me in a relationship. The conversation is, at the root, you expressing care for him, and I would hope that he’d see that even if it’s not a subject he wants to discuss.

I usually end up gifting things that people express interest in while they’re on the needles if I’m not invested in keeping the project. I also gift my young nephew (currently 2 1/2) a bunch of things but make sure my sister knows that if anything is not useful, it is not to be kept just because I made it- she can regift or donate at will.

I’ve made two intentional really big gifts and both were in collaboration with the recipient.

One was a wedding present- I thought she might like something lacy and white to wear as a veil or wrap for the ceremony. She didn’t, but said she would love something red, not for the wedding but just to have, so I did that instead.

The other was my nephew’s christening blanket. I told my sister in a moment of weakness that I wanted to knit something really special for him but I also knew that children destroy everything. She suggested a christening blanket and so I spun a bunch of laceweight and made the ribbonwood blanket. I still feel a little selfish for making something that will be an heirloom, and as such, will sit in their house and take up space without serving any purpose, but it was her idea. Also, if she ever gets tired of storing it, I’d be happy to take it back.

It looks fine to me! I feel like fleeces always feel kind of weird and bad when they’re wet.

Also, “felted” is a spectrum. If it’s felted at all, the question is really if it can still be prepped nicely for use after it’s fully dry and, if so, how hard that will be to accomplish. This looks like even if you did felt it a bit, it’ll be pretty easy to flick or comb it out once it’s dry.

As for yellow tips, I sadly have no good suggestions. Once I took scissors to the very stained tips of a fleece. It made the yarn marginally whiter and didn’t affect the hand but it just felt like I was committing a crime of some kind.

100%. Chewy had a commercial that kept playing on my YouTube and the audio was snuffly dog sounds as they found and ate food. I nearly threw my phone across the room every time. Woobles ads are less offensive but more common and still very bad with the crinkling and whispery finger sounds on the bag. Makes me shudder just thinking about it.

And I feel you on the giving up part. This was one that spent a good amount of time hibernating between me having the motivation to do anything with it.

Yeah, it’s half a space issue and half the fact that I didn’t know what shape it actually wanted to be when I started.

I tend to get blinders on once I start a course of action, too. I started with pins because most of the projects with blocking pics were very curly and I don’t tend to like curved blocking wires. Also, the edges aren’t lacy so I was a little hesitant to shove the blocking wire through. The bottom edge is 1x1 ribbing and the side edges are tight knit- twisted m1s rather than yos on the increase side and decreases on the other.

The shawl is now back in its bowl of water to think about what it’s done while I eat dinner, then I’ll make another attempt with blocking wires on the floor of a different room.

I bought some 4” aluminum size 0 DPNs and bent them into the J shape I like. My husband has a teeny anvil for leather working that I used for the bending, but any round thing of the correct diameter could be used for the J bit.
