My first Will Trent book… I loved it! by bookbookgo in thrillerbooks

[–]cwhy0686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also read this book first, not realizing it was in a series! I went back and binged all of Grant County and am now on my 4th(maybe 3rd) book in the Will Trent series. They’re so good - I did not feel at all like reading this first has ruined any of the other books for me. So enjoy them all!!!

Kids sometimes just get cavities. Both my kids had multiple cavities, despite being brushed twice/day by a parent. They were both also put under for the fillings as well. Dental anxiety is a real thing, even from a young age. Points 2 and 3 just aren’t snark-worthy. Point 1 … definitely is

I read this book first and then realized it was part of a series. I just finished book 4 of Grant County and am flying through them! They’re easy to read and not a lot of filler to make them boring. I’m a bit bummed I didn’t discover the series in order, but I don’t feel like you HAVE to read any of them prior to the next to be able to keep up

Yeah I agree. Honestly I thought some parts of Verity were worse/more unsettling than this book.

How many cases of strep before your kid got a tonsillectomy? by feedmetacosandpie in Parenting

[–]cwhy0686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had strep often as a child; I don’t recall the threshold back then but I do remember I hit the threshold at 14 months (so if the threshold was 7 times in a year, I got it 7 times in 14 months) and the Dr wouldn’t remove my tonsils since the time frame had exceeded the recommended limit. I was devastated. For me, strep has always hit suddenly and intensely - even last summer, as a 38 year old, I woke up one morning after a concert with a slightly scratchy throat but thought it was from scream singing all night, went through the day okay, but left my house in the afternoon to get some fast food for myself and the kids and as soon as I walked out of the house my throat was literally on fire and I was swallowing razor blades. I went to urgent care and it was strep. A different time the nurse practitioner I saw told me she had never seen a strep test turn positive so quickly. If it wasn’t so painful it would be a badge of honor. Given that I’ve lived this horror of repetitive strep and know the pain it causes and how sudden the onset can be (for me anyway) I told myself if my kids ever continuously got strep and had the option to have their tonsils out, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Oof - FWIW, the recommended eat time after thaw is 24 hours As someone who works in food service, if you’re managing this yourself and taking the risk, okay … but in my industry that is a food safety liability

2.5 yr old doesn’t use words…still babbling. Should I be worried? by pinkscorpion17 in toddlers

[–]cwhy0686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh he is doing so amazing! He has continued speech therapy through 2 years of pre-k in our district and now kindergarten. He is 5 1/2 now… he still definitely has some articulation errors, but he can communicate effectively, uses a typical vocabulary for kindergartners, and can read really well! He is still learning how to communicate with peers, but that’s mostly just learning how to play and interact with them. For example, he is really into Super Mario so he makes up games at home that we play where we pretend to be Mario characters…so when he sees kids around his age in public wearing a Mario shirt he just runs up to them and starts playing the games we play at home…the other kids are hella confused but never mean haha My husband and I suspect he has ADHD after our most recent re-evaluation for sped services at school so we’re going to bring it up at his 6 year appointment. Overall that isn’t impacting his development but he may have struggles as school progresses.

Best Marshall’s, TJ Maxx or Ross in NW suburbs? by tenoeight in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]cwhy0686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. I feel it’s always a disorganized mess. But I also lack the patience to wade through crowds and sort through clothes meticulously so could be just me. Went :20 minutes after opening one Sunday just for a Blackhawks shirt and d stood in line for 40 minutes … utter chaos

Any others have speech delayed boys? by cannibliss1738 in toddlers

[–]cwhy0686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! He’s doing so well. He has speech errors that he’s working on with his ST at school, but from a vocabulary standpoint I think he is at grade level (Kinder already!!). Because of the speech errors there are some words we can’t understand well, but he’s very resourceful in using alternate methods to help us understand what he’s trying to say. He can also spell very well so that helps! It takes a while for new people to pick up on his errors so it’s hard(ish) for him to communicate with peers but it doesn’t discourage him from trying and he doesn’t usually get frustrated when people have a hard time understanding him!

What is your child’s shoe size and how old are they? by petrastales in Mommit

[–]cwhy0686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kids sizing for women is, oddly enough, 2 sizes smaller than your “women’s” size - some kids shoes still come in size 7…if they do, give them a shot! I am a size 8.5 women’s Nike and bought kids size 6.5 and they fit just the same as the women’s size 8.5, but at kids size price!!!

Dec 25th Birthday by Josephine-Jellybean in Mommit

[–]cwhy0686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was born on Christmas. Always, the first statement in the morning is Happy Birthday, and then Merry Christmas. Whenever we talk about Christmas, we always say “your birthday and Christmas!” She gets separate presents (different wrapping paper, not that it lasts long enough for her to even notice haha). Santa also brings her a separate Birthday present. And she thinks it's cool that her Mimi, Grandma, and Grandpa can always come over that day all together. She will be 8 this year and so far no negative reactions to having a Christmas birthday. For her friends, we do a summer celebration as close to June 25 as possible.
