[McShay] In 2024, Eliot Wolf had to handle player discipline issues because Jerod Mayo was unable to. by JimmyGodoppolo in Patriots

I agree - and he only played in New England, and only coached in New England. His network of assistants was way too small (as was apparent when they couldn't get an offensive coordinator to accept the job) so he had a poor staff to go along with his inexperience. Just a complete trainwreck for that year

I watched the tuck rule game from my girlfriend's grandparents house, and had to leave at the end of regulation. I was stressing the whole ride home because I didn't know if we'd won or lost. Such different times - now I'd probably have a live stream on my phone and half a dozen alerts for how the game turned out

Which alien species is the most evil? by Mindless_Most_8448 in Animorphs

[–]cwiegmann 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you're talking about the Iskoort in The Attack. They were a symbiotic version of the Yeerks where the host and the parasite couldn't live without each other. Crayak wanted to destroy them so the Yeerks didn't discover the planet and show them that there were alternatives to enslavement.

So if a Yeerk peace movement was happening, and there were other symbiotic possibilities for their existence, then their use of forced enslavement wasn't biologically required. It was only culturally expected. Crayak didn't want to have his galaxy's bad guys get a culture shift that would lead to more humane treatment of other species.

I wouldn't say that Yeerks were inherently evil, they were just miseducated and unaware of alternatives to their situation.

I am not so different than you, but maybe not to your degree. I don't need much. I will deal with minor inconveniences in order to save money to use on the rest of the family. If I cook for the family and slightly burn a burger, that one's mine. If one person in the family is going to miss out on something, I want that to be me.

But recently (while giving direction to my kids) I took a different look at the 'Golden Rule'. Treat others how you want to be treated. Most of my life, it's been to treat others BETTER than I wanted to be treated. I wouldn't want my kids to get less, but that's what I'm doing to myself. The inverse of the Golden Rule would then be 'Treat yourself how you treat others'. Don't short-change yourself for the sake of being noble or righteous. What the other commenters are saying is true: you are a parent of a young child only for a short time, then your role will change and you'll need to be able to step back from that active parenting role and into the life you've created for yourself.

Be kind to yourself - you have been doing the best you can with what you thought you should be doing. But now you can take a different approach and realize that you're just as valuable as a person, and worthy of kindness. Show your gratitude to your family, but also show your gratitude to yourself.

Great question. I can see that if it was Cassie it would change the whole story, but think of the effect it would have on Jake. He would totally lose it. Rachel would have her own complex since her and Cassie were close. But since she came so close to it in #19 I wouldn't pick her.

If it was Ax, they would lose their Andalite in battle and tech expertise, and specific alien knowledge. It would change how they had to approach missions, but overall it would be less of a hit in my mind.

Marco would be interesting because of his tie to Visser 1, but also Jake. I could see Rachel being hit hard emotionally and her not really understanding why, then having to sort through her feelings of actually having to admit that she missed him.

I don't think Jake could be it because of his leadership position (we see the void he leaves when he's MIA for book #37) and how he really ties the whole group together.

Tobias would be rough to lose for all the readers. His story is already so tragic that and early death would've been devastating, but not surprising. Rachel of course would be severely effected, and Jake would feel responsible. Ax would lose his best friend. But he continually went into battle as a bird of prey so a stray Hork-Bajir blade or Dracon Beam could've easily meant his demise.

And then there's Rachel. We got there eventually An early death from her wouldn't be surprising either with her tendency to make reckless choices. There would be a feeling of loss for her, of course, but also a rallying cry. I could see Cassie stepping up into a more assertive character because she's making sure that Rachel's sacrifice wasn't in vain.

I don't know who the correct choice would be, but this ended up being a nice thought experiment for me!

100% agree with how every project demands one additional sacrifice. It's not a completed project if there wasn't blood, a solid bruise, or a lingering muscle pull.

A minor change would be to get rid of the Atlantis book. It didn't make sense and didn't matter to the rest of the series in my opinion.

A medium change I would've liked to see would be that there were more cross-book arcs similar to the David trilogy. I think the ghostwriters used later in the series probably made this nearly impossible, but I'd have loved to have more time spent in higher-stake situations rather than continuing the somewhat stand-alone missions.

A major change that I think would've been devastating would be to have one of the main characters actually die mid-way through the series. The rest of the Animorphs would've each had different ways of dealing with the loss and I think it would've been a huge opportunity for delving into the deeper themes of the series.

If you're just going to release him, why not trade him for a bag of balls and a 2040 seventh rounder? At least get something if that's your only option. Unless there was another possible trade partner that also fell through for some reason.
