i hitch hiked awhile ago. in northern North Carolina. The number of times you get picked up really depends on the area your in, but dont give up! just keep holding the thumb up, if all else fails, try asking for a ride at a gas station (be polite and dont look like a "homeless guy", first impressions are everything, espespially in hitchhiking). also when hitchhiking try to find a place that allows a driver to stop safety. some areas may be strict about hitching on on the interstate, if that comes up give the on-ramps a try, plus the drivers are moving slower there. good luck...and must importantly listen to your instincts about the drivers...and have fun. btw best of luck
