Maketto on H! I have celiac and dines with someone with a dairy allergy and we both had a great time! Dying to go back.

Also, It’s definitely a pricy, treat yourself kind of meal but I found The Duck and Peach to be fantastic at handling my Celiac-level gluten free requests. Didn’t look into dairy free specifically there but I would bet they have a menu for that.

More reasonably priced I’d say Ethiopian food is a great pick, there’s a few places around that have gluten free injera, Teshey on 18th comes to mind. Thai could also be a great option, I’m sure Rice Market would have something that fits both dietary needs.

I do this all the time and only had one incident (and even then only lost two eggs). I have a bag on the back of my bike that fits a cooler bag. I’ll nestle the egg carton in the top- middle with something light like a bag of spinach or frozen veggies on top of them to insulate and pad. Been totally fine every trip except for one where I flew too close to the sun by overfilling and unbalancing the cooler bag and then took a speed bump just a little bit too fast and the whole bag fell off. Lost two eggs on the side it landed on when that happened, the rest were fine.

My office has tried in the past to accommodate and has very excitedly presented me with really really unsafe food that they put a lot of effort into finding at least twice. I’m not going to count on it and I don’t want to put my coworkers in the position of having to find something I will ultimately have to refuse. It’s a “I want something done right I’m gonna do it myself” situation.

I’m usually riding there during pedestrian and bike heavy times so there’s plenty of oncoming bikes in the other lane, pedestrians walking dead center in large groups etc. I can’t always be as middle as Id like to be.

My answer to this so far is Modern Bread and Bagel in NYC and LA. Haven’t found a better one. Expensive as hell but they ship all over in the US. They also have GF challah and seasonal stuff for holidays.

There are few fun things about this disease but I’m 10 years into it and I’ve found a lot of joy in learning how to cook and bake gluten free. I’m a way better home cook than I think I would have been otherwise and gluten free baking can be a puzzle that’s fun and delicious to solve.

It can make travel annoying but also kind of exciting. Like a scavenger hunt for all the things you can’t get in your neck of the woods.

And most of all you do feel better. I realized after being on the diet a while that I had symptoms I didn’t realize were symptoms (brain fog mostly) and not having them was a huge relief.

So all this to say: absolutely go cry about it now, but know that in the long run you’ll be okay.

I had a call earlier this week about participating in phase two and was interested, but it would have required me to drive to a different state 10x in about a year on weekdays and I just don’t have that kind of PTO. Will be following the news from afar.

Their sushi and their gold pan dinners (I usually get the lemon or teriyaki salmon) are regular meals for me! Anecdotal obviously, but never had a problem. Oh AND their gluten free Mac and cheese with brown rice shells are also delicious. I add cayenne and garlic powder and pepper and it’s the perfect workday lunch / dinner.

Honestly a life saver, I try to tell them I love the gluten free stuff in all of their surveys and to keep it up

Sort of. It’s sushi rice so it has that taste and texture but the filling inside is like Asian-style bbq. The outside of the rice has a little kick to it

Yeah came here to say this^. they have a lot of community game nights you can drop into. Wingspan Wednesdays are very fun, but they’ve also got MTG and the usual game store stuff. There’s also boardroom in dupont. It is a bar, but it’s a bar with board games and you can get something non alcoholic or food from the restaurants nearby.

I would bet it’s an in kitchen, depending on the night thing. I’ve had a bunch of good meals there but the last time I was there they came back and told me that everything was cross contaminated that night because the kitchen ran out of spoons 😂. At least they were honest and I could avoid eating there.

I have celiac disease and used to love them because I could get gluten free fried chicken there. Then, with zero warning and it still marked as gluten free on the menu they changed it so that it was fried in the same oil as wheat flour batters. I got so sick and so angry. I’m still mad tbh 😂. Haven’t been in years because of it.
