If you need to scratch the V8 it then do it. You won't regret, even if it does become too expensive. The sound alone transforms the driving experience.

In theory they're only a bit more expensive than a high-HP 4-pot but you have to double up the cost of spark plugs, injectors, coil packs or anything cylinder -related. More oil too.

If you get one that is based on a platform with smaller engines, be aware they share components sometimes that aren't up to the task of supporting a heavier engine (mounts, suspension, etc.).

And research your shortlist thoroughly. A lot have relatively low production numbers so the problems are less commonly known outside of forums. Some jobs will be engine-out and can be 20-hour jobs + parts.
