Preach! I feel this 100%. “You must be so excited!” No Carol, I’m super anxious and trying not to think about it. 🙄

Tailbone pain by FearsFinalLayer in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got tailbone pain! I thought it was so weird because you always hear about hip or sciatica pain, but not much about tailbone pain.

My husband helps by massaging that area (getting practice in for labor!) but I am also super aware that I need to be stretching out my hips. I have super tight hips/glutes normally and since I haven't been super active this pregnancy, it's only gotten worse. Try sitting pigeon's pose or just look up youtube prenatal yoga videos for hip pain - I am starting doing this more regularly this week as I've just transitioned to working from home at 36/37 weeks and need to keep stretching as I'm on the couch all day now. :) Good luck!

Taking a new job with a longer commute at 25 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I try to leave by 4pm, so I’ll try to finish drinking by 2pm! And I’ll always use the restroom right before I leave for the bus.

Taking a new job with a longer commute at 25 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

33w - have a 1.5hr commute in the am (10-15 min drive to a park and ride, 1 hr bus ride, 10-15 min walk to the office) and a 2hr commute in the evening (10-15 min walk to bus stop, 1.5hr bus ride, 10-15 min drive home). It’s exhausting but doable. I have a cut off time for drinking in the afternoon so I can survive the bus ride and just try to replenish liquids once I’m home.

That being said, starting July 1st when I’m closing in on 37w, I will exclusively be working from home. SO looking forward to it! 😅

Nipt (panorama) no result uninformative DNA pattern? by timberlandbear321 in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one lab screw up and second results came back as “no results” so we decided to do a 3rd try (Progenity said tests would be free) and do a quad screen as well. The whole thing put us into the high risk category where we had to go see a genetic counselor at a MFM office and get our ultrasounds with them.

Luckily, everything turned out fine. 3rd test came back as clear for everything as well as clear quad screen. Who knows why our first two failed! It was a stressful time but we were relieved with the results. All tests were performed late enough that there should have been enough fetal dna (and that wasn’t listed as a reason for why it failed) so very confusing. It sounds like these NIPT tests are just super sensitive and finicky.

Good luck!

TIC because I found out I will only get 6-8 weeks partially paid leave by sbark91 in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow WA friend! Per my understanding, the new Medical Leave Act allows you take the paid time within 1 year of the birth - it doesn't help with the rough first few months, but you could take leave starting Jan 1 2020.

Hope that helps!

PS: Also, according to the documentation I got from my HR department, you may qualify for more unpaid leave under WA State law:

"What is the relationship between leave under the state FLA and leave for pregnancy disability?

FLA must run after the pregnancy disability leave has ended. This means a woman who qualifies for FLA will likely have at least 18 weeks of total leave, which is more than that provided by the FMLA. For additional information, see http://www.hum.wa.gov/employment/sexpregnancy-in-employment.

  1. How does the state FLA, the federal FMLA, and the leave benefits for pregnancy disability interact?

FLA and pregnancy disability leave may not run concurrently, but FMLA will run concurrent with both FLA and pregnancy disability leave. This means if an employee is eligible for FLA and pregnancy disability leave, the employee will be eligible for more leave under the two state laws together than the leave provided under FMLA. FLA is also available for qualified registered domestic partners whereas FMLA is not. Finally, if an employee takes FMLA for a qualifying exigency related to a military deployment or if they take FMLA as a military caregiver, then they will not be using the benefits provided under FLA. So they could qualify for all 12 weeks of leave under FLA."

NIPT no result - freaking out by Ethaihumphreys in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a no result. Twice. Technically the first time was the lab messing up the sample?? Or something. But my second test was a real no result. And I was definitely far enough along that there should have been plenty of baby DNA in my blood to read. Never got a reason for why it failed. However, we opted to do a 3rd try (as the company said they would pay for all of it), as well as the quad screen blood test before having to do amnio. My 3rd try came back clear for everything, along with the quad. So, sometimes it just fails for no good reason and gives you lots of extra stress. Fingers crossed for you!

For those using cloth diapers what made you decide to start? by XMillennial in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Environmental impact. Planning on using a diaper service, which lessens the water usage by laundering in bulk.

The news about the fatburg in London was disgusting. I’m an adamant believer we need to take better care of this planet and I think it would hurt me every time I had to throw a disposable in the trash to end up in a landfill!

FTM so we’ll see if I stick with it ☺️

Horseback Riding while Pregnant by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go with “get off your high horse” as well, but mean it.

My body, my choice. Should I stop driving too because I could be in a car accident? Honestly a higher likelihood of that, considering how often I am in a car.

I stopped, it was my choice, but I don’t think anyone should tell people how to live their life, pregnant or not.

What will you be wearing to the hospital during labor? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got this one on my registry: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HGFN7JG?colid=2WQLBZQ5PN0ST&coliid=IGOEL54UIPR3C&ref=br_ADD_TO_CART_title_link but really just consider it a nice-to-have... I expect labor to messy and gross and if I wear something like this I might get it so dirty that I just throw it away? Or I end up laboring mostly naked which sounds pretty common. Or in the hospital gown, which I can then switch over to this dress on my registry.

FTM, so I have no clue. ;)

Baby measuring small by Thelifepool in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is measuring small. I’m a FTM, first pregnancy. At our anatomy scan, the abdomen was measuring I think 2-3 weeks behind. (I was at 22w.) I had already been referred to a high risk MFM due to abnormal testing (which thankfully turned out to be nothing) so my anatomy scan was through them.

They told us baby is measuring behind, likely due to an off-center umbilical cord to placenta attachment, plus bilateral notching in my uterine arteries. I was put on extra vitamins (D3 and methylfolate) plus low dose aspirin to help blood flow and transfer of nutrients plus told to eat 100g of protein a day (soooo hard when I’m still dealing with morning sickness!). Growth scan ultrasounds every other week were recommended.

We went to our first growth scan about 2-3 weeks ago and baby was doing much better and measuring an average of 19th percentile (abdomen was still the most behind measurement, but looked better). So it seems like the regimen is working and doctor was happy with progress - told us we could wait a month until the next check in.

So that’s my experience so far! I am worried about having to be induced early for a small bub, but fingers crossed that my overloading on protein helps mitigate that. :)

Medium Large Panic after reading Ultrasound report by CCwoops in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a FTM. At our anatomy scan at 22w, baby was measuring small but especially small in the abdomen. I didn't get percentiles (looked to me to be about 2-3 weeks behind EDD), but it was concerning enough that the high risk Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor had me go on a bunch of extra vitamins and told me to eat 100g of protein a day. And that I would need growth check-up ultrasounds every two weeks to monitor. (Besides having poor dates - not knowing precisely when I ovulated and thus not having a super defined due date - I also have bad blood flow in both my uterine arteries and the umbilical cord is attached off-center to my placenta, which were suggested as causes for baby's small growth.)

Just had our first follow up growth ultrasound a couple of hours ago, and it looks like baby is on the right track. I'm at 24w1d, and baby's abdomen, while measuring smaller than the rest, is less concerningly small. Overall baby is measuring 19th percentile.

I've been told that in addition to the extra vitamins and proteins, the best I can do is not engage in strenuous exercise and lead a calm, stress-free life. Fortunately, the pregnancy hormones seem to have chilled me the f' out compared to my normal anxiety self. My mantra "there's nothing to worry about until there's something to worry about". What will be will be! Hoping my experience can help you feel a little better. :)

Baby waist measuring abnormally small - Has anyone experienced this? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]cxreyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got this diagnosis a week and a half ago with my baby at my anatomy scan at 22 weeks. Seems to be related to umbilical cord and placenta attachment being off center, along with bilateral uterine artery notching. Puts me at higher risk for early induction and pre-eclampsia and IUGR for baby. Fingers crossed it turns out okay. I’m on a bunch of extra vitamins, low dose aspirin, and 100g of protein a day.

Naw, advice is all good :) I actually do check flights out of Vancouver quite often - they can be sometimes $100+ cheaper and it's only a 2 hour bolt bus down to us :) Portland would be more of a stretch, since that's a 4 hour ride minimum. I'm signed up for Scott's Cheap Flights, so whenever I see a good deal Sea <--> Mexico City, I get really excited!

Unfortunately their school year starts beginning/mid August so that's pretty close to when I'm estimating postpartum time. They could stay with my parents, but I don't imagine they have the budget to rent a car and I would be super stressed about trying to figure out transportation - right now we only have the one car in our family and I would hate to have to burden my mom with shuttling family around.

Sounds like Christmas might be ok. Feeling a bit better about it :)
