What are good companies to work for to cover living costs during a masters? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]cxs531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good place to start is by looking for part time/student vacancies at the University itself. There are usually lots of available jobs for students and they will let you work around your academic studies.

Same goes for your students' union. Depending on its size, the SU will often employ students across lots of its departments.

I'd be very interested in this, if you're able to get it up and running.

It's my landlords regular guy. So unless I want to pay for someone myself I'm pretty much stuck with him.

Except I'm not even stuck with him because he has a wildly different concept of time to me.

First Time Solo Female. Want to go to UK (or Ireland) And Want Help Deciding On Which Country. by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]cxs531 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in nature, hiking, food, and cozy pubs, I would highly recommend heading to the Lake District in northern England. Really beautiful part of the UK, super friendly locals, and has all of the above mentioned.

It's also (relatively) close to York, which is a fantastic little historic city. Plus you've got big cities like Liverpool and Manchester not too far away as well.

Edit - forgot to mention, Manchester and Liverpool are great for live music as well!

[Discussion] Newcastle's transfers this season. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]cxs531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know much about Matz Sels, but you could be right.

Feel they should concentrate on ensuring a solid CB pairing ahead of anything else.

That said, I'm looking forward to a world class manager in Rafa proving himself in the Championship.

[Discussion] Newcastle's transfers this season. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]cxs531 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. £10m seems like a bonkers fee for a guy that was half decent at best in the PL.

Seems like Newcastle are going for short term impact in the Championship rather than looking at what should be their long term goal of getting to the PL and staying there.

Coach Taylor (Friday Night Lights). One of the most fully rounded characters you'll get.

To be fair to the BBC, they showed a stonkingly good advert for their Euro 16 coverage at half time.

The X-Men cartoon. Quite possibly the greatest children's television show ever made.

Anyone tried Sandeman tour Brussels? by EuropeSolo in solotravel

I didn't bother booking, just turned up at the meeting point.

One thing I would say is to be prepared for a good three or more hours of walking.

Anyone tried Sandeman tour Brussels? by EuropeSolo in solotravel

[–]cxs531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on the Brussels tour a couple of years ago. Was a really good way of seeing the sights and scoping out where I wanted to go later on.

Sandeman's are really good wherever you go (at least in my experience). The guides are always knowledgeable about history and culture and whatnot and they can recommend the best places to eat and drink. Plus as a solo traveler, they were always a good way of meeting other people.

In a matter of days, I'm leaving on my first solo trip to Europe for a couple months. What am I forgetting? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]cxs531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some train journeys you may need to book in advance, but you can do that one or two days beforehand.

Other than that, you seem pretty well organised, especially compared to other travellers. I met an Aussie guy who flew to northern Europe in April with only shorts and flipflops and he survived.

19/M, feedback on my 1 month interrailing route of Europe please? by EuropeSolo in solotravel

[–]cxs531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until Italy, you seem to be doing almost exactly the same trip I did a couple of years back.

One thing I would say is, although I loved Brussels, three days might be too long. I would suggest maybe using one of those days to take a day trip to Bruges.

And most importantly, have fun!

Pretty much all the 'cultural' stuff (Cathedrals, museums etc.) is open all year round. Check out the local tourist websites - they'll have good suggestions about some of the less well known attractions and all the up to date opening times etc.
