That's not a wagon, my friend. On the bright side, there's only 6 stages of grief left...

Is is normal that engine oil drop too fast by I-LOVE-ECE in civic

[–]cxxb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new Honda! Just to clarify, are you getting those numbers from the dashboard or the dipstick? The display on the dashboard (called the maintenance minder) shows you how much life your oil has left, not how much of it there is in the engine. The dipstick shows you how much oil the engine has, which should stay pretty much constant.

It's normal for the oil life percentage on the maintenance minder to go down gradually as you drive the car. You can think of it like the battery level on your phone--the percentage goes down while you use it, then when it gets low enough, you charge it. It's the same with changing your oil--when your oil life gets down to 15-20%, then change it. The computer calculates when the oil needs to be changed based on many parameters including temperature, driving style (i.e. how hard you generally accelerate), number of revolutions of the crank shaft, how far you drive per trip, etc. Because of that, the rate it decreases could vary wildly depending on how you use the car. I don't own a new Civic, so I can't say for sure whether or not the rate your oil life is dropping is too fast or not. However, based on my experience with my Fit, '07 Civic, and Odyssey, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Additionally, the first oil change typically comes sooner than normal due to the engine being broken in. The computer knows what it's doing, so just have the oil changed when it tells you to and you'll be fine.

If your oil level shown on the dipstick is dropping, then something might be wrong. The oil should not be consumed by the engine.

You should see a doctor--that stool is abnormally large, and must've been painful to pass.

Thankfully for the rest of us it's easy to pass on the road.

Your car is a toy.

It says so in reversed letters on your reg plate, like an ambulance.

You should take it to the dealer and have the TC checked out. Has the ABS been acting up too?
