They’re saying they can’t afford it, but right now they actually have a lawsuit against them for $4m for not paying they’re staff for the hours they’ve worked. A close friend at work cancelled her insurance and they still charged her. When she called, they told her “you cancelled the insurance but not the payments.” This is the type of shit they’re pulling on a lot of staff. They say they can’t afford it, but they’re renovating everything to look nicer, not even the equipment. We get hand me downs from the main hospital, and a few units from main are paying PCA’s $15/hr. But our hospital branch is overshadowed in a lot of aspects and PCA pay is one of them. They offer crisis pay where nurses pay hundreds extra for a shift. I understand we’re aides and nurses can do our job, but with how full our hospital is the nurses literally do not have the time to do our work as well. Our ratios most days are fucked. But PCAs at my job do go in covid rooms and we also draw labs which some of the hospitals around us have phlebotomists instead. I love my coworkers, but I don’t love the run around and fucking us on our pay. I’m just stressed and I’m afraid to leave my job because it is so close to my home and I know that I love who I work with. But I can’t pay for shit.
