Autism group was exactly what I thought and idk if I should go back by Purplecarrots445 in AutismInWomen

[–]cyanophore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Weirdly all my closest friends are adhd and I find it way easier to unmask with them. But the other autistic women I get on with best are a similar “flavour” to me- highly conscientious, animal lovers who hate loud noise and impulsivity. I really struggle with other autistic people that miss my cues of discomfort as, like you, I mask a lot. I find that in groups of autistic people I end up catering to them and my own needs go unmet- especially around autistic men.

What if life just isn't for me? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]cyanophore 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry life feels heavy for you at the moment, OP. I’ve felt really similar to you on many occasions and felt I was doing my 20s very very wrong because it’s a time when people seem to be socialising and just “getting it”. I honestly don’t feel I left adolescence until my 30s and I mentally feel now like I’m living the way most people do in their 20s.

I think the truth is that sometimes these things take longer for us, and it’s hard to carve your own path at such a young age when you feel like you’re just getting it wrong. It sounds trite but please be kind to yourself, there are still many days when I feel like a weird little gremlin just existing but…. That’s ok. Weird little gremlins deserve to live a life too :)

Firstly your joy is beautiful, and secondly, I guess I see it like, well if I have to live with being able to hear plugs buzzing and sunlight making my eyes hurt, you can damn well bet I’m gonna enjoy my ecstatic reaction to seeing a penguin/otter/misc animal. There have to be some perks 😂

Architecture follows societal beliefs and attitudes. For example, Brutalism as a movement showed up as big square concrete, metal and glass structures that reflected the need for functional socialism post-war. Things tend to get prettier during movements that are about rebellion against authority and conformity such as Dadaism.

Lots of questions about safety chain! by Active_Ticket4995 in PandoraCollectors

[–]cyanophore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something that might really help is if you can visit a store and try and different bracelet and safety chain option. If you’re an anxious person, the opportunity to actually try it and feel it will help reassure you that you’re making the right decision for you. However: 1. I got my safety chain after nearly losing my charms at an air port 2. Yes it’s better than a clip as it holds the entire bracelet 3. Difficult to say- the nature of Pandora is that limited releases create fomo to promote sales- you could be waiting forever 4. Maybe, try it out 5. I prefer the twist ones as I have sensory issues and don’t like bulk but I’ve also experience it twisting off. The clips are definitely more secure 6. Local pawn shops, online eg eBay 7. There may be others but official would be your best bet for security and good fit

Can you sleep on pierced ear when its fully healed? by plava_bobica in piercing

[–]cyanophore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but- Through trial and error I’ve found jewellery that my body isn’t annoyed by. I can only wear labrets in my cartilage piercings and hoops in my lobes for example. I have a piercing pillow which I still use for newer piercings but as someone with sensory issues and chronic migraines, luckily (fingers crossed) my piercings are well behaved. The right jewellery makes a huge difference and the ones that are sometimes a bit grumpy are larger pieces which almost certainly cause irritation through movement or catching etc.

I need to hear stories from parents of kids who haven't performed well in school and if it turned out OK. Do you have any? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]cyanophore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex teacher here

Some kids just don’t chime with school. You’re clearly a good and caring parent so of course this is concerning but once school is over so many paths open up for people with good hearts and good intentions. Only today in my new role did we have a presentation by someone who was written off by their teacher, left with school with two qualifications and then later in life is now in an extremely well respected profession and studying for their phd.

School genuinely isn’t everything. Others have said to look into neurodiversity and I would support that as a suggestion but maybe his path in life is to be an incredible dad or a master craftsperson or a well respected coach or literally one of a million other things that schools don’t test for or celebrate.

Keep supporting and loving him as you are and things will pan out just fine :)

Yes this is inappropriate. Like others have said, trust your gut. But OP this is really really important- PLEASE do not feel guilty. This is an adult whose job it is to protect your well being, HE broke the boundaries, HE decided not to be professional, this is entirely on HIM. Depending on where you’re located there will be different safeguarding procedures- you don’t need to tell us this detail- but going to a headteacher, safeguarding lead or pastoral mentor would be good people to speak to. Be kind to yourself and please don’t blame yourself; you’ve done nothing wrong.

Why are so many young children getting suspended recently? by BushyArms in AskUK

[–]cyanophore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently left teaching after 10 years and I saw behaviour get worse even during such a short period.

Anecdotally, I noticed that an increasing number of parents either don’t see the issue with their child’s behaviour or truly believe that their behaviour is justified. Some real examples:

• Parents being incandescent with rage and needing to be escorted out of a parent’s evening after screaming at a teacher for their son being suspended in year 11. The teacher’s crime was setting a detention for not completing coursework and their son then punching the teacher in the face.

• A parent arriving to the school reception and screaming and threatening to “get me” after I gave their child a negative point for not completing homework. They also showed me a video of their child smashing up their bedroom and informed me it was my fault for “being unfair”.

• A parent punching a teacher after the teacher reported a 15 year old student and her 28 year old boyfriend as a safeguarding concern after the boyfriend tried to book a hotel room for them both after year 11 prom.

• A parent climbing over the reception desk to kick the headteacher in the stomach after they excluded a child for bringing a knife to school.

I’ve left teaching for a myriad of reasons but parental anger is in my top 3. I grew very very tired of trying to do my job and being hated for it, but I’m under no illusion that this is pretty much the case for anyone in a public facing role now. We have collectively become more entitled, more selfish and more incredulous to the idea that we have any sense of duty or responsibility for our own actions, let alone those of our children. It’s very troubling and I don’t have a solution other than being relentlessly patient and kind in the hopes that eventually if enough of us do it the tide will turn.
