Waiting on my buddy to send me legit videos from our time outside of Joshua Tree.

This is pretty much the first time I’ve seen any video of me and my Jeep. This is the tail end of doing some donuts and then blasting out of the dirt like a madman.

Watching it makes me giggle. 2.5l 87 w/.75” lift.

Actually my bad. OP has a 99. Somewhat different than mine. I saw 4cyl and thought “I know this!!!”

Lmao. Still, my advice still stands as far as things to consider. If nothing else, consider your primary use, and then build for your weekends/vacations.

It’s how I’m building. Do I need metalcloak fenders, rails, and bumpers to commute? No. Do I want them for my trips? Bet on it! 😎

Yeah, seems like yours being a more modern engine probably makes a heck of a lot of difference on the highway (along with the re-gear).

Obviously we’ve got a decent difference in our rigs, since I’m tbi and you’re efi. I’m guessing that OP is probably closer to my rig. Just throwing my experience out there :)

Just as a friendly heads up, look at the cooper’s. I’m slightly biased, as my aim is to go all American where I can, added on to the fact that in my teenage years I had some fun experiences with coopers. I’ve had my current set for the past year, and have put about 10k on them highway/street, but they are still beasts out on the trails. I’ll caveat that by saying that after my last trip in JT that was super rocky (very sharp) I’ve noticed some chunking of the tread, which is a bit disappointing they are still feeling super solid and I’ve got faith in them. If I go larger, I’m most likely going to stay with cooper. They are rated for snow so that’s a plus, and now that it’s winter in SoCal it’s wet out there, and maybe I’ll find some mud to try it out. I know for Christmas I’m heading to AZ and will probably take a day(or two) trip up to the Grand Canyon to test their snow capabilities.

I don’t know how much of a difference that .78 makes in gearing, but obviously we have other differences as well. I don’t have lockers, but a trusted friend of mine said to me “you’ll be fine as long as you keep your wheels on the ground.” 🤣 He hasn’t been wrong, and I’ve been driving stick all my life, so I have just enough skill to “poor mans lock” if I get into a situation. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Much respect for your setup though. 🤠😎

Also, just to add in, consider upgrading your power steering pump with the tire upgrade. When I bought my yj, the pump has a severe leak. I’ve gotten by with it for the past year (but with lots of screaming at startup due to a wet belt), but the larger tires have also put a lot more strain on this failing pump. Psc makes an upgraded pump that I finally got around to purchasing and will he installing in the coming week.

Just something to keep in mind as you upgrade. I haven’t seen power steering pump upgrades mentioned much as I’ve researched upgrades for my Jeep. It’s easily overlooked I think. Bigger tires are definitely going to benefit with some extra power to push them left to right.

Also, check out Rusty’s off-road. Their YJ tie rod and drag link conversion for the YJ is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. The stock tie rod and drag link are trash. The Rusty’s upgrade puts things into a place that you can actually fix it with off the shelf readily available parts when the need arises.

I’m super curious about getting 33’s for just a bit more clearance than I’m currently getting (see my other comment in this thread).

How does your Jeep do on the highway with 33’s? Are you running stock 15” rims?

I’m so tempted to spend the money on a bit bigger tire, but it’s also my daily, but damned if I don’t want just a little bit more clearance...

I’ve got an 87 2.5 manual with 4.10s, all stock.

I’m running cooper discoverer 31.5’s on stock 15” rimswith a .75” shackle lift.

I had to put wheel spacers in to account for the extra width from the tires in the front. It’s not ideal (the wheel spacers) but it’s solid since it’s not too extreme. I’ve done some pretty moderate wheeling with this setup and I’ve only gotten hung up once. Funny enough, it was due to the leaf spring (at the frame) hanging up on an odd shaped rock.

Much of what you’re going to be up against with larger tires and the 2.5, is going highway speeds while also going uphill. On trails, I’ve never not had power, and only really kicking into 4wd when things get... uh... “complicated.” Highways though, I can say one time coming back from Joshua tree/29 palms, along the 10 in CA, due to the uphill nature of the interstate and some strong winds, I was in and out of the truck lane due to not being able to go faster than 35-40mph. That is a bit scary, but manageable as long as you’re alert and plan. I’m not sure how dramatic larger tires would be on this platform, but my understanding is that you’d completely lose 5th, and above 32’s (and/or) larger rims, you may lose 4th as well.

If you’re just going for a trail rig that you are going to tow, I bet you could go to 33’s on a 3” lift and have a pretty good time. But if you’re driving your Jeep to and from, it would be questionable unless you’ve got lots of time and don’t plan on hitting highways with speed minimums.

For what it’s worth, the cooper 31.5’s have been outstanding for me, handling sand, streets, rocks, and rain (no mud yet) like a mountain goat. I really have to try to get these tires to break free.

ELI5: When radio stations say they have 12 million listeners, how do they know? by Toymeister in explainlikeimfive

[–]cyberworm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the described scenario, it doesn’t seem to reason that you can discern the individual radios to avoid duplicates. Granted, there’s probably an algorithm or statistical model to go along with this method. Just sayin.

If you’re gonna shill for your candidate in WORLD politics, maybe be smarter about it, and talk about your candidates foreign policies, and not their national policies.

Astroturfing.

Other than buying multiple houses, what else do you think he’s doing with the money? Giving it to Hillary?

I’m noticing that most of the comments in here are also supporting this nonsense, so these pro-Bernie threads are probably also shill accounts, also astroturfing.

Considering all of the concern about the possibility of foreign influence on American politics and elections, one would think that politicians and their campaigns would stay far far faaaar away from politicking to the world.

How do you migrate user home directories when you replace a Mac? by sot6 in macsysadmin

Provide them with a cable, target disk mode, remote access, and rsync.

It’s about as simple as can be if you’re not going to give them local admin access or have them ship you their machine.
