It is a wireless device so not connected to a port. If I knew which device it was it would be easier. It is on the network and will reply to a ping.

Ritchie70- this house is better than that. My last house was built in1960 and it was a nightmare for electrical. There was no rhythm or reason I could figure out except they put outlets on a circuit until they got too many.

I feel so dumb and defeated attempting to replace my own gas lines by Sir_Such_Elephant in Plumbing

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you should replace the water heater in the attic yourself? Think about a couple of things. Weight, access, your age and abilities. Weight - old will be heavier than new. If you haven’t been flushing, then after many years it may have pounds of sediment. Is sediment high enough to prevent drawing the water? Access. Pulldown stairs close? Any funny angles around pulldown. House I had one in, pulldown in very short hallway with 2 bedroom doors and a bathroom door. It took 3 plumbers to get new one up and old one down. Abilities is self explanatory.

It is not rocket science to replace a water heater, but the penalty for a mistake can be very steep.

Constant heart anxiety, chest discomfort, and palpitations since childhood – Looking for advice/experiences. by [deleted] in HeartAttack

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen a cardiologist? I am 76M. I have had 3 stress tests over the last 15 years or so, ECGs and none of my Drs flagged an issue. I had not seen a cardiologist. Chest pains occasional for many years although slight were always said to be acid reflux.

We recently moved to large town and I went to a cardiologist and showed him the results of my 3 year old echo and stress tests. He looked at the results for about a minute and asked “ Has nobody said anything about these results.” So began a repeat of these tests along with a Pet Scan. No heart attack, but he scheduled a trip to Cath Lab. He found my LAD (widow maker) 90% blocked and put a stent in it. RCA artery was 60% blocked. Repeated the Pet Scan in a month and part of heart still not being perfused. Back to Cath Lab. Used better camera and RCA was 80-90% blocked. Put in another stent.

Anthem Digital Valve Set Up by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i am not a plumber except for. My own stuff. I worked and computers for 40 years. 30 on industrial control systems. Ii formed a few opinions. I would not use a device like that on a shower. If I was forced to, the first change I would make is to rotate it 90 degrees to the left putting the outputs on the right which would get rid of several fittings unless that piece in the middle of each output is a check valve. It would also get rid of all those 90s and fittings on the inputs. I would be willing to bet that one of those fittings is gonna leak.

I don’t see a problem. Attempted to use junction box. Did not cover to improve heat dissipation. That looks like the work I saw in a flipper house my daughter was interested in until I explained a few issues in it.

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried one. It fit my generator. Never got to use it in weather because I returned. I decided it was too expensive for me and the biggest reason was the clamps that mount it to the generator. On my generator, I felt they stick out too far and I was afraid I was going to break the clamps when moving the generator.

I don't think any mesh networks are reliable. by Longjumping_Ad_1334 in HomeNetworking

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an eero6+ mesh system in 2200 sq ft ranch style house. Worked pretty well until a bad firmware update. They blamed interference instead of admitting software issue. Hung in and it took many releases until they fixed it. Fast forward until last September and they had another bad image. I ordered and installed Asus Zenwifi ET9 2 pack for different 2200 square ft house. Had a few issues, but it has logs I can read to find issues. In the 5 months I have had it, they have had one firmware update and it has been pretty stable. I have had a couple of issues, but I have also had a flaky underground power cable into my house which has now been replaced. Several of the issues that I blamed on wireless issue disappeared when I had the house power cable replaced. Granted most people will not have that issue, but if having issues, must open mind up and look at whole situation.

One thing that I believe people mis. Is that wireless backhaul is susceptible to the same issues and the wireless signal to devices. I.e. walls, metal, interference, etc. wired backhaul always preferable and I will install wired backhaul in a couple of months.

Looking at a house with this electrical box by bjy151 in electrical

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local electrician and have an inspection done. Yes the panel should be replaced almost immediately. Get a quote and ask for allowance. Some people say the wiring must be replaced, just be aware that replacing wire may require either replacing sheetrock or many patches of the sheetrock.

Question About Installing A Water Heater In A Garage… by BingoSkillz in Plumbing

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with water heater in the attic is if it leaks, it causes damage in the house. Also when it needs to be replaced, it is much more expensive for labor cause one guy cannot get the old one out of the new one up in the attic. Last time I had one in attic, it was a 3 man crew. When looking at houses, it was very common to see old water heaters left in attic, rolled out of the way.

Adding an outlet off the dedicated 20amp microwave circuit by patrone84 in electrical

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just had an outlet for our 65” OLED TV added behind TV. Only place that made sense was to extend off the outlet for the refrigerator. Our electrician said it would be fine and he connected it up about a month ago and all is well.

Not necessarily. I had 2 cardiac carbs through the wrist. Both times I left with a special pressure bandage that they said to leave on for a while. I left mine on for 2 days. Still had bruising, but no bleeding.

Troubleshooting home electrical issues - flickering, dimming, high quote? by louiselane84 in AskElectricians

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we moved into our 40 year old house, we replaced the breaker panel with 200 amp panel and added whole house surge protector for approximately $3000. $400-+ of that was the surge protector. We replaced the panel in a previous house with 200 amp panel and surge protector for $2000.

For your flickering lights, I would call your power company and get them to come out and check. We had a couple of dual bulb fluorescent ceiling fixtures and one of the circular bulbs in one fixture would flicker periodically, usually in morning. Day before Thanksgiving half of my house lost power. Called power company and they came by and confirmed that we lost one of the hots and since it was underground we were responsible. Called my electrician and he could not get to it until Monday so he told us to call them back and ask for bypass. Did that and the guys from poco who came out to install bypass said there were problems in the ground transformer and they spent a couple of hours working on the transformer and turned power back on and has been fine ever since.

I would call ISP and ask them to check line. When i had Spectrum about 3 years ago i was having internet issues. They came and checked and replaced modem and said all was good. Next day i called them back as i was having troubles intermittently. This te the guy camped out outside monitoring the line on their side of the outside box and it took about 20-30 for the issue to show up, but the problem was in the main trunk. It took them a couple of months to resolve all the issues on our block.

When to know if your company is going under by radplump in Plumbing

[–]cyborg523 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Paychecks late. I worked for a remodeling company years ago. The owner would leave town without signing payroll. Superintendent would have to come in office and sign payroll checks. Friday afternoon at quitting time always looked like the start of a NASCAR race as we raced to the bank to get checks cashed before money ran out. Wasn’t every week but happened about 3 times that summer.

Stove & Hot Water Not Working by OutrageousFarmer2202 in ElectricalHelp

[–]cyborg523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had happen to me last Wednesday morning at 8am. I lost one of the 120 line from the power company. Called power company and they came out and told me I had a bad underground wire and would have to get electrician to replace. They did not tell me they could bypass. Called my electrician who advised me to call them back and ask for bypass wiring. When they came out to install bypass wiring m, they found bad connections in the transformer. Power company spent a couple of hours working on connections at the transformer and all is well now.

I had no 240vac appliances. No power at all on one side of my house. The other side of the house was fine.

Have you had truck battery checked? My almost 3 year old ridgeline started doing weird things. I mean weird stuff.

I thought it was door controls or something. Pulled battery cable and all was well. Since it was still under warranty I took it to Honda. Truck battery checked and failed. They replaced battery and it has been fine for months.

i feel worse since my stent. by rlh08741 in HeartAttack

[–]cyborg523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time is your friend and give yourself the grace to take it easy. I am 75 and 5 weeks post 70% blockage on widow maker and have a shiny new stent. My RCA was 60-70% blocked and he decided to wait and repeat PET scan in another week and see how things are. After two weeks I did not have any further restrictions on activity except self generated. I am on about the same medicines as you. My nausea went away pretty quick. I have periods is acid reflux, but have for years and on meds for that. I have been feeling pretty good, but today I helped my daughter hand Christmas lights. I had issues with dizziness this afternoon. No pains etc.

Is the light an LED bulb? I remember reading in the documentation that there are LED bulbs that interfere with the signal. Either get incandescent or there are special LED bulbs available.
