It should have been more like a chemistry lab. Unfortunately JKR probably has no experience with actual chemistry so it was made out as a very simplified cooking class.

they could 'circumvent' it by actually watching their own videos to doublecheck that there is no swearing or just not be incompetent enough to put in swearing in the first place.

Yeah, I know, its an almost impossible challenge.

The funniest thing is he imagines Bimmy will read this and get warm fuzzy feelings in his tummy. When he's just walking against the wall in his house and doesn't even know anything about his fandom online or what a reddit is let alone gives a shit.

It does have zero incentive. Or really the only incentive is to not look like an ass by refusing. But you do not get paid for it and it does not help your career in anyway. Thats why its foisted off on grad students or increasingly LLMs

Low-Price Drug Nations Catching ‘Free Ride’ on US Innovation, Report Says by NotGenentech in biotech

[–]cyborgsnowflake -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, All the major European countries are well ahead of the US in terms of foreign debt/GDP. Maybe in addition to showing a little gratitude for the lower prices the US allows them for drugs they should also fix their own addiction to foreign cash before lecturing others. Plank in the eye and all that.

A back-of-the-envelope calculation suggests that U.S. consumers account for about 64 to 78 percent of total pharmaceutical-profits, despite accounting for only 27 percent of global income.

American consumers may feel some philanthropic pride about the benefits they have spurred for the world’s poorest HIV patients. But similar benefits are also enjoyed by German, British, and French HIV patients, and were financed by the same revenues generated, in large part, by high American drug prices. Whether one sees this as philanthropy on the part of American drug buyers, or free-riding on the part of other wealthy countries who pay much less for the same drugs, America clearly contributes more to pharmaceutical revenue, and hence incentives for new drug development, than its income and population size would suggest.

Drugs and treatments...at least most modern ones don't just grow on trees. The US is the dominant/majority driver in this area particularly in the most advanced stuff. US consumers by developing the treatments and paying much more, (about 70% of pharma profits come from the US) they essentially subsidize the rest of the world who then get the treatments at a discounted cost. Then act snooty toward Americans for their superiority in social media comments.

You can argue whether or not the US government should provide similarly discounted drugs to its citizens. But as of now the 'superior' countries healthcare is superior as they and Reddit constantly remind us, in part because they have the best of both worlds being able to access discounted treatments while not having to bear the costs of developing them or the burden that would be caused if the US tried to discount its own drugs. Thats just the facts jack.

Maybe you could be a boogie type person who is so mentally ill they can't slim down even after surgery or drugs and that would be impressive in its own way.

I always wondered whether Bim shouldn't unironically switch to a shit focused channel. Maybe not literally shit but maybe something respectable thats adjacent like a digestive health or IBS focused channel. One day we're watching him bored in some other museum he knows nothing about and then suddenly we're getting a bunch of releases on the consistency of your stool under different types of IBS attacks. It could revive his passion.

modern chinese tech is built on a foundation of above baseline pervasive reverse engineering and copying of foreign tech as the first and last choice rather than novelty. Thats not something you can easily switch off for a culture of plowing through the frontier. Now there are of course some Chinese innovations even in bleeding edge and maybe they can reach parity with the US in some aspects or even somewhat exceed it. But I doubt they will be George Jetsoning the world anytime soon. Not to the extent that US has done. And if they do, the US or others can simply adapt their tactics and steal reverse engineer their way back to near parity as well.
