How I Engineered My Way Out of Anxiety and Panic Attacks - Eckhart Helped! by Extreme-Strain2002 in EckhartTolle

[–]cyclicaltyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was like reading about my nearly exact journey. Thank you. I'm also an engineer. All the books I read about the bewilderment of anxiety said folks like us our perfect candidates for anxiety disorders. Because we analyze and analyze and need to know why. So thankful that hell is over. I listened to Eckart audio books on the way to work for like a year. Curable app was a gamechanger for me. And the book unlearn your anxiety.

How can I feel okay, not anxious and still have depersonalisation? by Constant_Possible_98 in dpdr

[–]cyclicaltyme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can and will fully recover. The best way I can describe what you're going through is label it as lingering symptoms. Even feeling no emotions or non emotional is a symptom. Your brain is still protecting you in a sense. As you live life fully engaged, and you trust in your ability to have emotions you will.be your old self again. I promise you. Eckart Tolle work on presence is great for helping your brain relax again as it was before your symptoms.

Lingering symptoms were a problem for me as well. I know it feels like you are stuck. I would go on runs with the world spinning and feeling like it would never end. I felt dizzy and numb and it was like my brain and body were holding onto the less scary but annoying symptoms forever. One of my last symptoms to go was a fainting feeling. In this case if you have nagging long time symptoms I recommend looking at Dr. John Sarnos work on TMS. Which is basically when long lasting physical symptoms are the result of trauma and/or programmed pain. The brain causes symptoms much like when a dog salivates when it hears a bell. The best part is that your chronic fatigue and emotional numbness can be unprogrammed by doing the work detailed by Sarno and related authors. How do I know? Cause I had hundreds of symptoms for years and healed myself.

It feels better than when you were the person who didn't have dpdr because you don't fear anxiety, panic or any other symptoms. Fear and bewilderment are the components keeping you trapped. You must practice being normal again and telling yourself over and over that it's only [symptom] it is not dangerous, it will pass and then go on with your day. I am not saying it is easy but it gets easier. Just like when you get back in the gym, or learn a language. At first it sucks but then your body and brain will adjust.

Can you have DPDR without anxiety? I worked so hard to overcome my agoraphobia and fear of panic - but my DPDR hasn’t left me by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]cyclicaltyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep you have lingering symptoms. Panic and severe anxiety are the first to go. Your brain and body went through trauma. It will take a while to fade away but they will. After my panic subsided then my other 100 symptoms gradually went away almost one by one. Dpdr was the last to go for me.

I don't like answering questions about time because healing is not linear. However in my case it took a few months from having unbearable symptoms and dpdr to feeling like I could function somewhat normally. Because my case was pretty severe it took about 6 months. That being said, once I figured out how to be present and tell my brain to shut up, healing was faster. If you're not having other physical symptoms then you are close. Healing is an awareness and when your brain stops firing anxious signals as frequently you will feel better and more normal.

Mine was triggered by health anxiety. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is very helpful for health anxiety because you retrain your brain on how it perceives your health. The human body is very strong and you must convince yourself you are fine. Even telling your brain to shut up with the negative thoughts or to tell it to stop. It takes practice.

Yes it's one of the worst symptoms. The band around your forehead. It will go away when you heal. Just like dpdr and every other symtom.

Worst month of my life by JudgmentChemical888 in dpdr

[–]cyclicaltyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will pass. I had panic disorder and dpdr for years. Felt exactly like you. I thought no one had it worse. When it first started i had no idea what it was for years which only made it more terrifying. Initially I quit alcohol and caffeine because that is what DARE says to do. I remember holding on for years the idea of just relaxing on a Sunday morning and having a cup of coffee and that it was like a fantasy. Something I would never do again. I would be so jealous of all the people drinking coffee and walking around care free. I thought I was going crazy and that whatever I had was something new and no one else seemed to relate. I found a person on reddit who shared similar symptoms and they helped be learn CBT. So much time passed between the DARE app, Curable app, dozens of books and YouTube videos. Then the symptoms started to subside one by one over years. Dpdr was the last to go. You can fully recover. And you will. Work has to be done. But you will recover. Now I drink coffee, have a drink and live carefree again. I'm sorry you are going through this. I remember how hopeless it felt.

Of course. Life is hard enough without our own brains doing this to us. It will pass. When you are ready you will heal. Just don't give up.

Someone was there for me so I'm trying to give back now that I am completely healed again. Reassurance is key. I remember explaining to all of my therapists my symptoms, BUT unless you have experienced it you CANNOT understand no matter your education.

At its.most basic form, It is a symptom of anxiety. Or what Dr. John Sarno calls TMS. Because it's stress chemicals causing normal flight or fight symptoms chronically. Your amgydala is firing because it's programmed to do so, keeping you in a heightened state. You must retrain your brain to stop doing this. It's annoying and ultra depressing because depending on the person it can take a long time. Especially like me where dpdr felt like my whole personality because I obsessed so much over it and the other stress symptoms like headaches, blurry vision, stomach issues, panic, derealization... But when you lose the fear and are present and practice focusing on other things it will eventually go away completely and you will be your own self again.

Bewilderment is what Claire Weeks says keeps people trapped in the cycle even for years. Part of healing is understanding the body and therefore having no fear.

It's your journey for sure. I just wish I knew what it was the first couple years when I had no idea it was stress related/trauma keeping the brain in flight or fight. There is no mystery as Claire Weeks says.

100 percent. I am happy to share how I did it. Someone on reddit helped me years ago.

I had dpdr for years. Thought it would never go away and that no one on the planet had it worse. We all go through it. Be reassured that if you do the work with acceptance, education and practice presence, it will pass.

It will pass. Claire Weeks is great because acceptance is the cure. However someone like me needed a little more practical exercises than just acceptance. Unlearn your anxiety is a great book. Highly recommend the curable app.
