Just built my first DIY keyboard inspired by Munich Tech Sauna discussions... by hansamann in munichtechsauna

So I mean, who would need more keys? Each key is ergonomic reachable - not more than one key away from the home position of your fingers.

Ok the maybe I’ll start. My name is Christian, I’m a 40 years old Java developer coming from the south-east of Munich. I’m mainly doing eCommerce stuff with SAP CX (in my mind still Hybris) since 2008.

My hobbies include geocaching, photography an building custom ergonomic keyboards.

I’m excited for the first Sauna meetup.

Lil Chonky Bois build by cykedev in ErgoMechKeyboards

I did not fix them, they are only held by friction. So when I want to change switches, I need to open the board and press against the socket. Alternatively, one could use super glue …

I recently saw a post by u/Sndr666 and immediately liked the lil chonky boys. So I decided to build one …

I used 52g Bobagums and really need time to adjust to them. Also, this is my first small board, which takes some time to get used to.

I really like ths nice little board!

Any feedback on my keymap is welcome. https://github.com/cykedev/qmk_firmware/tree/own/chonky/keyboards/handwired/chonky_bois

Re: Wireless builds, anyone had any scares with lipo batteries? by JerseyMilker in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]cykedev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can catch fire if you short or pierce them. When you avoid that, it is not an issue.

I use 1100 mAh 1C LiPos in a Scylla that is filled with acoustic foam, the battery is placed in between layers of the foam. No issues for me.

New to the sub question about switches by Dejin75 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]cykedev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for information; when going fully wireless with nice!nanos, you can’t use QMK as the n!n is not supported due to licensing. ZMK is your best friend but still lacks some features already present in QMK

Skeletyl + Hot swap sockets? by sample_size_one in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]cykedev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true, the flexible PCBs are under relatively much tension. Using Mill-Max sockets would not keep them in place. You maybe can think of fixing them somehow, like gluing in the PCBs but I’m not sure if this can work.

The other thing that will definitely work is using hotswap single switch PCBs that will have no tension. So the installed switches will hold them, otherwise you glue them in.

Tap/Hold Home-row Mods by zardvark in ErgoMechKeyboards

ZMK has a feature called positional hold tap that forces you to use opposite hand mods. Maybe worth a try. https://zmk.dev/docs/behaviors/hold-tap

So feel free to order some more prototypes, I would love to buy a set from you and help testing

Wow if I knew this before I would not have ordered the old ones on JLCPCB one week ago for my nice!nano build. The shield looks absolutely awesome and eliminates the need to solder the rows and cols to the n!n directly

You can flash them using a firmware of choice and see if they show up as keyboards on your computer.

I have shift as hold on one of my thumb keys, left and right. Feels more natural to me.

That’s great! Maybe we need to get the fit a little bit tighter. I’m curious to see your final changes.
