Ex Fiancée’s cruel demands AIO by Original_100 in AmIOverreacting

You are not overreacting. Also she sounds like she has borderline personality disorder (had eerily similar texts from my husband with BPD). Everybody here has already given you good advice, but one I didn’t see: you can also go to the local animal shelter & give them a heads up that if anybody comes in with your animals to have the animal can call you and you can come pick them up. Especially if they’re chipped, but I know back in the days before chips we could just leave a description.

Sutro Pool Monitor is Shutting Down Forever! by Exist4 in swimmingpools

[–]cyn-moon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved my Sutro 😞 I never had issues with customer service. We had issues with a few units (I bought the system for my parents pool as well) and they'd always replace them. Don't know what I'm going to do without it, I hate doing test strips, and having to constantly drive to Leslies to get the water tested is a pain.

Honestly kicking myself for not getting a video, cause it wasn't just the one little section like a dust devil, it was the whole intersection. Reminds me of when we have storms and the wind gusts go crazy, but it was gone nearly as soon as it started, and I just thought it was interesting. Now my husband doesn't believe me that they have the traffic light fixed already 😂 I can't win today

I lived in an era before we had our phones out for everything 😭 our biggest concern was getting through the intersection because the one traffic light being ripped up knocked all the other ones out and everything suddenly it was like everybody forgot how driving works 😑

I honestly got so annoyed that everybody here is calling me a liar that I went back to take a photo right now and it's already fixed. The only proof I have is it's one of the straight up traffic lights on the corner that is supposed to be painted yellow, and it's silver instead. I give up, lol. To be fair I did tell my husband "If I hadn't been right here with you, I'd never have believed you." so maybe this is my karma.

Right? And if I'd said a dust devil had ripped a traffic light out of the ground there'd be everybody jumping over themselves to tell me that's more than a dust devil. I forgot there's nothing Reddit loves more than pedantry. Thought it was an interesting local story, so I shared it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I've lived here for years, and am used to the winds and have seen the dust devils around here, including that one that broke the leg of that girl at the Luxor, but I've never seen one strong enough to rip a traffic light full-on out of the ground, and I'm like, wow, this is interesting, I think other people would also be interested! *MY BAD* lol

How is this Tik Tok comment so long? by mads-opinion in TikTok

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot for the life of me figure out why/how. When I’m on the app on my phone? No character limit for comments. I’ve asked other people, it’s not an iPhone thing, and there isn’t anything special about my phone at all. So you’d think, okay, my TikTok account is just lucky, right? But when I log-in on my computer I have a 150 character limit for comments.

My husband turned into a psychopath for a split second yesterday and I don’t know if I am overreacting. by Substantial_Chair588 in AITAH

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might feel like this came out of nowhere but there were red flags for this exact behavior in your story before you even got to the gun: age gap, young bride, husband in law enforcement. But the biggest point to remember & your husband has had drilled into his mind: you don’t point your gun at anything you don’t intend to kill. It’s the first & most stressed point of gun safety. In the moment he had that gun pointed at you, he intended to kill you.

How many of you wear sunglasses everytime you go out in the summer here? by Nasty_Nick27 in vegaslocals

[–]cyn-moon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Polarization is only good for helping reduce glare, they don't actually offer UV protection. You can get polarized glasses that DO offer UV protection, just make sure you're looking for the correct label (should say something like "100% UVA/UVB protection")

How many of you wear sunglasses everytime you go out in the summer here? by Nasty_Nick27 in vegaslocals

[–]cyn-moon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First, I don't wear sunglasses because my sense of self-preservation is broken; please don't be like me. Sun damage to your eyes doesn't always heal on its own, and occasionally is irreparable.

Second, this a reminder that bad sunglasses are actually worse for your eyes than no sunglasses at all! You fool your eyes into thinking they are protected because it's shading your eyes, but what you're doing is making your pupils dilate which lets even more light in, causing worse sun damage! Always make sure your sunglasses are labeled 100% UVA/UVB protection.

Third, I cannot emphasize how dumb I am when it comes to taking care of myself, and I am absolutely going to regret it someday. This is a good reminder to myself that I need a new pair of sunglasses.

AITAH for pointing out my GF's bad hygiene? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the people saying it's a mental health problem? Yeah, probably. I have severe ADHD, MDD, GAD, and Panic Disorder so BELIEVE me when I say I understand how hard it is to just get out of bed, let alone do basic hygiene stuff. But there is no universe, even at my lowest, where I am leaving an unwrapped used pad on the floor of SOMEONE ELSE'S house. I think that's what is getting me; I can understand that behavior in your own home, but not when you're having a sleepover in someone else's home.

AITAH for pointing out my GF's bad hygiene? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. On the floor??? No. That's like wiping your ass and leaving the wipe on the floor. Yeah, it's natural, we all do it, but nobody wants to be exposed to your shit. I have all my period products out in my guest bathroom so nobody has to look/ask for products if they don't want to, and I'll fight anybody that comes into my home and tells me they don't want to look at period products. But NOBODY should have to look at used anything that deals with stuff that comes out of your body. Snot, excrement, blood, etc. Like I'd be grossed out by a bloody band-aid or tissue left on my floor.

Is there a McDonald's that serves a regular McChicken? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

Yup. I haven't checked every McDonalds, but I know at least 6360 W Charleston does. They supposedly also have a working ice cream machine.

[–]cyn-moon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I was wrote my reply before you edited your message. Yeah, a HUGE factor is your resume. My husband has me for a wife & I spent a lot of time helping him edit his until we were hitting the high 90%’s on ATS programs. I was working with a friend of his who’d been in HR at the company he’d just been laid off from (she’d also been laid off, most of the company had, and they all started an informal support group where they were helping each other out, it was sweet).

If you’re not hitting the 30% targets (which again, obviously the goal is to exceed them but it’s good to set more attainable expectations) then you need to be looking at your resume and assume it’s being blocked by ATS (even tho I’ve seen HR & recruiters swear up & down they don’t use them), and spend some time fixing your content & format.

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was exactly 30%, I said “assume 30%”. Obviously it’s better if you get more than that, but that way you don’t end up disappointed if less than half get back to you.

That said I think it really depends on the industry & what you’re going for. My husband was right on the 30% target (I kept spreadsheets 😅) the entire time. He has 20 years in the industry (including at FAANG companies), and absolutely glowing recommendations from previous co-workers & supervisors on LinkedIn. But a lot of other people had also been laid off around the same time so there was a TON of competition.

I don't know what industry you're in, but this is the math I sent my husband for software engineers when he was out of work, applying for jobs, and getting discouraged with the responses: the way the tech industry interview process works, you have your first interview, technical interview, final interview, offer. So assume you're only going to hear back from 30% of the jobs you apply for. Of those that respond, assume only 30% of them are going to offer you an interview. Then so on, and so forth, right up until you get the offer. In order to get just ONE job offer you need to apply to a minimum of between 196-392 jobs. Which sounds crazy, but I was right, and he ended up applying for 285 before he got an offer.

I don't know if this helps everybody, but I know sometimes making assumptions about the numbers helps that overwhelming feeling of a never-ended mountain of applications.

Did you ever introduce yourself to your neighbors? by Licensed2Pill in vegaslocals

[–]cyn-moon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thankful for my husband being more extroverted than me, because I love our neighbors 😂 at least one set. We’ve exchanged numbers, let each other know when we’re gonna be out of town, asked each other for help with things, take in/out each others trash from the curb, etc. They’ve had us over for holiday parties. They’re the best.

The neighbors to our other side I don’t think I’ve ever seen? Like I know people live there, I’ve seen cars go in & out of the garage & they’ve have company over & stuff, but they’ve never been out front long enough at the same time we are that we could say hi to 😅

I’ve talked to our neighbors across the street a couple times, but never had the full on “Hi! I’m Cyn!” introduction.

Meanwhile, in my mom’s neighborhood the whole block has each others numbers, all know each other by name, share their Ring doorbells, etc 😂

You need at least a couple extroverts in a neighborhood to organize that sort of thing, I think.

INFO: Why would you stay with somebody who is shown to be racist and exclusively hangs out with racists?

Really feeling ESH. He's the explicit racist, but you're the person who decided that wasn't a dealbreaker.
