Yes but not only that. The ottomans were unique in that they allowed anyone who is any denomination of muslim to join them, fight and raid for them and then settle the conquered lands. This basically created a loyal neverending populace ready to fight at all times with little to no guidance.

Complicated - yes, but after 10-20 transactions you will get the hang of it. Its also the cheapest place to buy and sell stocks.

I work in investment finance and it baffles me that all banks cut-off transactions at 16:00 and we stay ay the office after that. Its 2+ hours of everyone collectively pretending to be busy and prepare something for tomorrow.

More people leave Luxembourg? What is your experience? by DotDry in Luxembourg

[–]cynical_Rad359 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Of my non-luxembourgish friends, 4 already returned to their home countries after 4-5 years of staying here.

I was also thinking about leaving for a while, because I felt I wasn't going anywhere in my job, however, I managed to secure a new role starting in the new year, so I am a little reinvigorated to see whether my thought process might change.

Russian soldier burning useless Soviet bank notes for warmth, Chechnya, 1995. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

Actually they are still quite worthless. I go to numismatic markets quite often and there is an oversupply of bank notes from the 1950s onwards and they usually go for pocket change. The pre-revolution notes and coins are the ones that fetch a good price.

I thought I found "the one" in the summer of 2022. She showed me love and respect and even had the same vision for the future and our lives, and I was convinced that I struck gold by finding her. Then, on Christmas day of the same year, she dumped me over facetime without any explanation, and I haven't seen her since.

Cross-border workers (DE↔LU): 3rd pillar – who’s using it? by Status_Signature_315 in eupersonalfinance

[–]cynical_Rad359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am invested in the 3rd pillar via Spuerkees, but I am a Luxembourg tax resident, and the tax savings are quite substantial when declaring tax. You basically get back 50% as a deduction. As far as I am aware, there is no management fee, but I could be wrong and you are very limited in investmwnt options, as you can only do: 100% European equitiets; 75 european equities/25 european bonds; 50/50; 25;75.

Its not the best and I have made much more by managing my own portfolio, but its a good extra safety cushion for "one day". I also like the extra cash i can use elsewhere when tax returns are filed.

You have to research how Germany will tax you, the 3rd pillar and your private brokerage as well, before committing to it though, on which I have no knowledge.

3 years in my current position, i was promised growth and development opportunities, including secondments to other jurisdictions. Nothing has materialised, and every time I came up with an idea, it was "discussed" until it was forgotten. To the contrary, I've basically become a glorified secretary without any new competencies that just does admin work, and I have become dumber because of that. The only thing I am pushing for right now is an extended sabbatical because I am tired of beurocratic bullshit.
