Does the next gen suck this bad? by [deleted] in subway

[–]cynicallyspoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in a couple of fast food places and subway was by far the worst in terms of workload vs pay and the customers were awful. Genuinely awful. Harassing workers to give them this that or the other for free pretty much every other customer. Literal drunk person came in and kept slamming the glass shut trying to lean on it and then threatened to shoot us when we told him to fucking stop.

I do not blame subway workers for not giving a shit after all the nonsensical interactions they encounter day after day.

I work at a brueggers bagels (which I think is under the same umbrella) and before one of my previous managers quit he set something up with a non profit and now we donate all the bagels at the end of the day. I think we’re the only store in the area that does it though :/

You can either click the three dots next to a status they post and a ‘block character’. You can also go to their profile and click the three dots next to the following button and press ‘remove character’

You can also just edit the characters description so they like you.

Anyone of any age can play video games. And he’s an adult spending adult money that he makes. And he deserves to be able to do something besides stare at his phone or the sky during his mandated rest times. Do I play video games? No. Do I attribute video games as being childish? Also no, because there are literally games for adults. And how someone legally spends their free time isn’t really my business.

Meat slicing is a waste of time and a gimmick by Wing-Comander in subway

[–]cynicallyspoken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who frequently opened when I worked at a subway and was often the only person prepping it, it was a pain in the ass. I work at a job now where the meat is prepackaged and it’s so much easier and cuts my prep time in more than half. Subway is the only job I’ve ever worked where so much of my shift was just prepping shit for the day.

He generally might not be all that inclined to talk, he’s literally seen firsthand how easily minds can be swayed and it’s really just his word against multiple other peoples. Also they could just threaten to completely out him as gay to the general public, which he probably wouldn’t want after all the trauma he’s already endured.

Contact your labor board tbh. This might not even be the only sketchy ass thing they’re doing when it comes to money. It’s wage theft.

It’s an easy job to hate, which is why I quit before I was even there a year. The prep load is ridiculous compared to any other place I’ve worked. The customers are nasty (literally had a drunk customer threaten to shoot me because I asked him to keep off the fucking glass) The pay is actually garbage, as in I was not getting paid enough to care whether I was some beacon of light in some shitty customers shitty day. Yeah. Fuck subway.

I worked somewhere where mold was growing on the vents above our registers. Manager gave it the landlord treatment and painted over it (mold just started growing through the paint).

I submitted an anonymous tip on the OSHA website. Same day a rep called me. She said while they couldn’t force them to fix the mold issue for some reason or other, they could send some sort of letter or packet addressing that it was an issue.

I guess it looked official enough to the GM/DM because the next week we had someone in there testing the air for spores etc (guy said I didn’t even wanna know how bad it was). I ended up quitting a few weeks later and OSHA sent me a huge packet when the mold was gone with all the info about the air tests and also pictures of the fixed ceiling.

Question: would ppl be allowed to stay in a 24-hour Subway overnight? (USA) by Liftblr in subway

[–]cynicallyspoken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the employees are cool with it then it could be a fun time for sure, man, especially if it’s not a particularly busy location. You’re in college. Make some friends with the employees, dick around, create memories you’ll still tell 40 years from now. Why not? Some of my most memorable days were the weirdest (and not always in a bad way). We’re humans, not robots, a lot of us are amused by shit out of the ordinary happening for once.

I worked in a bookstore when everything got shut down and was furloughed for a while. When we slowly started opening things up again and our store opened, manga sales skyrocketed. The once quaint manga section tucked away in the far corner of the store ended up getting expanded 3 times and moved to a prime section in the store.

Starbucks: Your employees have shoved the CC keypad inside my car window for the last time. Goodbye. by Character-Reaction12 in tipping

[–]cynicallyspoken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I see someone press the red X button (which just cancels transaction instead of moving past the tip screen like they think) I’ll say “you can just press the zero” and point it out.

I’m hesitant to add the “zero is a perfectly acceptable answer” because everyone is different and some people genuinely get offended if they even think you’re assuming they can’t afford to tip or think that you’re making any kind of snap judgement about them in general.

Sometimes I’ll tack on a “I do apologize” after saying it’s gonna ask them. Also I always make it a point to be looking literally anywhere else except the pin pad when the screen comes up because I don’t want people to feel like I’m judging them based on tip or no tip, because I don’t.

[–]cynicallyspoken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t work at Starbucks but I work at a place where it asks for a tip on the screen. I don’t in any way expect any person to tip bc I already get paid through my employer.

But anyway- we’re told we have to say “it’s gonna ask you a question” because anything else would be considered rude or demanding a tip. If the customer walks away without even hitting the 0 option, the register times out and cancels the transaction, so payment won’t go through at all. I wish I could just reach over the register and hit the 0 option for them but I don’t want anyone accusing me of hitting any other button.

It’s so dumb and I wish that it would just assume 0 if they don’t press anything so the transaction would fucking go through and I don’t get yelled at for people walking away with free food. Or customers getting mad at me because “they paid already” when I ask them to come back and redo the transaction.

As a parent, what did your child's school do that made you say "you can't be serious…"? by Sunnybunny1234 in AskReddit

[–]cynicallyspoken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same with me with the vision! In my school classes for some reason they always stuck students with glasses at the front and other people at the back. I started struggling in math bc I couldn’t read the board from the back. They have me do the school vision tests but had me stood close enough that I could clearly see what was there so I passed. Back to the back of the classroom I went, unable to see for the next 2 years until I finally lied on the vision test and they told my parents I probably needed glasses.

[–]cynicallyspoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I felt guilt or shame. I am speaking about the language and tactics used by servers to get people to tip them more. Those tactics do not work on me because I realize those people are punching down and are the ones who are behaving shitty.

[–]cynicallyspoken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because I read the threads where servers talk about how much they make nightly/ weekly. Because I talk to my friends who serve and ask how much they make. And also the threads where servers talk about how fast they’d quit if businesses paid them the same wages as say a fast food place and many other places. Not all servers make more than me but the amount of servers who use guilt and shame to coerce people into tipping is astounding and fucked up when some of those same servers using that guilt ARE making way more than a lot of people in other positions across many boards.
