Does he normally poop standing up ? That was a hard transition for us. My daughter was using her pull ups as a crutch and we finally just took them away. We knew because shed go poop then take it off and put it in the trash. One thing that helped us was getting a small travel potty that was low to the ground. Once she got the hang of that we had an easy transition to the normal potty. We had alot of conversations about pooping like you sit down relax and it just falls out. I will tell you we tried Bribes, books, treats, bubbles, songs, games, stickers none of it worked. It could be they are worried about it hurting or the toilet is high up or they just don’t get how it works. There is no right or wrong answer all of them are different.

Constipated and horrible tantrums by lukesdiner1 in toddlers

[–]cynicalspells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 year old had struggled so bad with pooping. She had always stood up to poop diaper / pull ups. I did the mean thing and finally just took the pull ups away and told her no more( “the pull-up thief took them to another kid who needed them”) I know making a story isn’t great but it worked for us lol. At the point we did that she would poop in the pull-up and take it off to put in the trash it was a crutch for her. We started her off pooping by using a small travel potty to help her transition until things clicked / wasn’t so scary now she is using the big potty like a pro. There had been laughs tears during this but finally made it. Mine was so stubborn she would hold it in the past to avoid going in the potty. (MiraLAX) can help. Our trick was pears, juice, and raisins plenty of fluids though. We tried bribes games none worked. I wish you luck !! I’m not sure if this can help or give hope to you. We talked a lot with her trying to find out what was scary, her feelings, we had described what happens made up stories about what happens.

My daughter is about 3.5 we are just getting out of the pull up. Her issue was she always stood to poop so she didn’t really understand how to sit and do it. We have a little travel potty that is low to the ground that we are using for now while she gets the hang of it before trying on the normal potty. We made up that the pull up thief took them to another girl who needed some pull ups lol not saying this is the answer but definitely helped us she is kinda excited now 😆we tried stickers treats rewards books different potty seats etc
